Waterproof materials for sewing a coat?

Has anyone got any ideas? Seeing as I'm finding it hard to get a coat I like, I figured it'd be easier to make one myself. Problem is I'm not sure which materials are best, and searching google is mainly pointing me towards the kind of materials you'd make a rain mac from eg. really plasticky. Which I'd rather avoid.

Ideally I'm looking for material that wouldn't look out of place on a coat like this

Hmm, odd that the link vanished.

This would be what I meant

I think you're a good hundred years too late to buy one of these from the shops, but believe original fabric was gaberdine or similar, so I'd look for something about the same weight. Good luck, as you seem to have found a pattern.
