Covid vaccine during pregnancy? Anyone had it?

Hi lovely Mamas, just wondering if you've had the covid jab yet? Or plan to? Am booked to have mine on Sunday but feel in 2 minds about it as its still a fairly new vaccine. Will be 24 weeks on Sunday. Replies would be appreciated! x

I am booked in for my first one on Tuesday. My midwife gave me an information leaflet on it and I've talked it through with my GP.

As I am over 35 I am more likely to be at risk, so I wanted it done before I go into hospital to have the baby.

The Pfizer jab has been given to a high number of pregnant women now. For me the benefits outweigh the risks.

Hi, it's much safer to have the vaccine than to risk catching Covid while pregnant. The vaccine is actually recommended now for pregnant women - the safety data for it is good and we understand a bit more about the risks of Covid in pregnancy, which can be very serious. Good luck and stay safe!

I had the first AZ jab before I was pregnant, I'm delaying my second one until 12+ weeks just as a precaution but I will definitely get it (and it will have to be AZ again even though I'm under 30)

Yes, 90k women in America have had it and there’s been no reported issues. The risk of severe illness and complications in pregnancy if you catch Covid has been shown.

I made my decision based on those two facts. Pfizer and no side effects

I attended my covid jab appointment shortly after finding out I am pregnant. I had a consultation with a nurse on the day who recommended not to have it during the first trimester and wait until the baby organs are fully developed. During the 2nd and 3rd trimester is recommended as pregnant women are at higher risk. I decided to wait, just as a precaution. I read a lot about how the vaccine works and chances that can affect a baby are very low. Moderna or Pzifer are the ones you should have.

So I've literally found out I'm pregnant and I had mine last week so pretty much around my ovulation dates. I'm not overly concerned as the risk of getting covid are far higher that getting the vaccine ( in my opinion) I had the Pfizer one

It's a hard decision to make my cousin is pregnant and has decided to wait to get it.

I’ve just had mine at 33 weeks today as I have high BMI, gestational diabetes and over 40. I spent weeks researching in detail as no one in NHS wanted to give advice but I had too many risk factors to ignore and I’m glad I did it. In Scotland you can’t say what vaccine you want when you book but I went today and they had me down for Astra. If you are over 40 and going and they say you’ve to have the Astra say no and point them to the guidance and demand Pfizer only as not all the staff were aware of the changes for pregnant women to only get Pfizer. I’ve a dull headache but that’s it.

I had mine on Tuesday (at 33 weeks). My arm was a bit sore afterwards, but it is fine again now.

Can anyone shed light on why midwives are advising not to get it in the first trimester? I’m doing fertility treatment and hope to be in my first trimester when my second dose is due. Not keen to delay unless there is a compelling reason as my job is high risk.

They are advising waiting as there is a chance you can develop a fever as a symptom of the vaccine and a fever is particularly dangerous in the 1st trimester. Not because the vaccine itself is dangerous or will have any impact on baby.

Hello wonderful mums,

I am 14 and half weeks pregnant and I had my first jab yesterday Friday 18th. I'm 32 years old and expecting my first child.

I decided to wait until my first trimester to get it, but the advice from the NHS midwife was to first consider my personal situation and get it at any point of pregnancy.

I had no high temperature so far or headache. Just muscular pain in my arm.

Will keep an eye to this thread to read your experiences and please if you had your baby while getting the vaccine while pregnant let us know! Will update you with my progress too

I've not had mine yet and just found out I'm pregnant. I don't think I'm going to get it. I don't think the vaccine has existed for long enough to conclusively know it's safe in pregnancy and I think the risk of me getting seriously ill with covid is low. I've not, however, researched it properly yet. I'm consultant led this pregnancy so will speak to them next week, do my own research and make a final decision.

I work in social care, had my first (Pfizer) in Feb and was due my second in May, however got pregnant in March.

I'm 16 weeks and they're saying it's safe to have the jab but it's very much 'its your choice' - I'd rather wait a bit longer personally. I'm going to wait until 3rd trimester and have it then.

I had my first jab before I found out I was pregnant and was fine so I got my second jab when it was due. Had az and was absolutely fine after it. If I had knew I was pregnant I would have asked for the pfizer due to there being more information on it but I would definitely still have it

Do you mind me asking how far along you were when you had your second jab? I'm in the same position, thinking whether I should go ahead at 10 weeks or delay it to 12, but will 2 weeks even make a difference is what I'm thinking

I was about 10 weeks when I had my second jab. If you don't feel comfortable with it so early then delay. I think the 2 extra weeks will give you a bit more peace of mind.

Had 2 doses of the pfizer jab, one in January when I was 20 odd weeks and the second at 27 weeks. DD is 2 months old and appears completely typical developmentally-speaking. Initial research from the states suggests that babies gain some antibody protection against covid via cord blood in mums who have had the vaccine and then post birth they have found it in breast milk. My reasoning was that the science behind these vaccines isn't new at all, so it's not a complete unknown... Whereas we do know the complications of long covid, that there is a significantly increased risk of having severe covid if contracted whilst pregnant and also that this brings increased risk to baby. It felt like a no-brainer for me to request the vaccine during pregnancy and I have no regrets. :)

I had my first Pfizer dose at 37 weeks, and my second shortly after my baby was born. So far DS has not grown a third eye. ;-)

Where I live in Canada, pregnant women were rushed to the front of the queue for vaccination when the alpha variant took off, as there was evidence that COVID alpha was particularly dangerous for pregnant women. At one point almost half of one of our local ICU’s capacity was pregnant women with COVID. That scared me enough into getting the vaccine no matter what my initial hesitations may have been. With rates as they are in the UK, I’d be getting vaccinated as soon as it was offered to me!

I'm not going to get the vaccine while I'm pregnant and potentially not even while I'm breastfeeding.

It's a new vaccine and they are only just starting to do research into the effects of it during pregnancy. From what I've read for me the chances are very low to get seriously ill from coronavirus so I wouldn't risk taking a vaccine.

Not sure this is always the case, I had AZ pre-pregnancy and Pfizer for the second one
