Pregnant again after 2 consecutive TFMRs

Hi there

I’m not sure if anyone’s been through this but wanted to reach out just in case.

In November 2017, at 21 weeks gestation, I had an induced termination due to spina bifida on the back of the skull, preventing the brain from forming normally. Our beautiful baby girl came into the world on Nov 9.

Two months later, I fell pregnant again. Then at 21 weeks again we had our second induced termination as our little boy had a severely enlarged kidney and severely enlarged ventricles on the brain. We had a post mortem which confirmed this but also confirmed that our baby had a small chin and a slightly curved palette but no cleft palette. The post mortem confirmed that they didn’t see it as being chromosomal.

Although our consultant said it wasn’t necessary, we requested genetic testing. However, after one period I have since fallen pregnant again and I’m now 11 weeks pregnant. So genetic testing might not be possible.

My 12 week scan is next week and I’m absolutely terrified.

I keep having outbursts of uncontrollable tears and anxiety

This pregnancy wasn’t planned and DH basically did the deed without realising eventhough I told him not to. I’m so scared that I’ve fallen pregnant so quickly after a tfmr again.

I’m so scared that history will repeat itself for a third time. All I want is a healthy baby. I don’t have any living children and it’s what I want more than anything else in the world.

Has anyone else had consecutive tfmrs and have gone on to have a healthy baby?

Thanks

Bec x

Hello, I've just come across this thread and I just wanted to say that I am so pleased everything is looking positive! I had a TFMR in November 2012 due to my daughter being diagnosed with an untreatable mix of conditions including hyper-plastic left heart syndrome and polycistic kidneys. After our lovely baby girl was born (induced at 23 weeks) I also fell pregnant again quite quickly but had two consecutive miscarriages both around the 11 week mark. However, in 2015 I found out I was pregnant again and despite being absolutely terrified throughout (I had counselling arranged by my midwife throughout my pregnancy which really helped) we welcomed a beautiful and healthy baby girl in November 2015, almost exactly three years after her sister. I still look at her some days and can't believe she's here! Wishing you lots of love and luck xx

@becca how are you? Hope everything’s going well. How many weeks are you now? X

I've just found out today that I'll need a second TFMR -I'm heartbroken - due to a genetic condition -tomorrow was 1 year after the due date of the baby boy from my first TFMR-the genetic condition has a devastating impact so there is really no other choice. We luckily have 1 DD which was our 1st pregnancy but have since been pregnant twice with boys - the first ended at 12 weeks and this time I'm 12+4 and waiting to hear about my TFMR appointment - I have a 50:50 chance everytime I'm pregnant of the baby being affected! What kind of TFMRs did you have? Last time I had medical and had all the adverse side effects mentioned I was in agony and it took 7 hours.following that I had 4 weeks of internal bleeding and had to have 3 emergency blood transfusions so I'm thinking of having a surgical one this time anyone found this ok?
I think you're really brave OP I'm not sure yet if I'm strong enough to go thru this again plus I'm 35 in 6 months!! Xx
