Harmony prenatal test - anyone know about it

today I am having a new kind of prenatal test called Harmony. It's non-invasive and seems to just be a new kind of blood test plus the regular nuchal scan but it's much more accurate than the traditional nuchal blood test. Apparently it's nearly as accurate as a CVS but without any risk.

I'm the only person I know who is having this test and nobody else seems to have heard of it let alone have been offered it. I just wondered if others have and knowledge of it and how accurate it is.

Are you going to?

gunwalloe · 08/03/2014 19:39

Is it your first?
Ive already got two of each and had a surprise with the first 3, this time I would like to know so that im prepared I have girl feelings to I wonder if im right?

Tranquilitybaby · 08/03/2014 22:28

If you have Harmony at 10 weeks do you have a scan first to check dates then gave the blood tests?

Then is it back at 12 weeks for the Nuchal scan is that correct? X

JBrd · 08/03/2014 23:17

Tranquility - yes, they will do the scan first to check it's a viable pregnancy. If it's not, then everything else gets cancelled.

Goats - thank you for your detailed report, that was really helpful.
I am quite cross with them for telling me that they don't do bloods on Saturdays Angry Would have saved me having to take two half days of precious annual leave to go down to London for the scans and test Angry I will challenge them on that when I go on Tuesday!
But maybe they wouldn't have let me come today, as I'm technically only 10 weeks tomorrow and would not have been able to go next weekend. Ah well, it's done now.

Fingers crossed it'll be good results! I'm doing because of my age, too - I'm 42, so definitely on the older side Wink

Tranquilitybaby · 09/03/2014 15:14

Thanks JBrd. Best of luck for your scan, tests and results! X

I am at 9.4 weeks. Planning to call FMC tomorrow. Should I be asking for the Harmony test or will they offer it to me free if I do the nuchal scan with them? Just wondering if they are charging separately for the Harmony test or not when done in 10-11 weeks?

ohthegoats · 09/03/2014 19:11

They won't it to you free, it's the most expensive thing out of the scans as far as I can tell.

This was the deal: www.fetalmedicine.com/fmc/treatment-fees/

SwimmingMom · 09/03/2014 21:09

Ohthegoats - thanks for the link! Better prepared for the chat tomorrow now. Smile

Nessalina · 09/03/2014 23:55

Hi all Smile
I've been looking into Harmony locally (I live in Leeds) and there's a clinic that has started to do it up here and in other big cities up north. It also does a similar test called NIFTY which costs a little less but does mostly the same thing, it's £295.
Sorry if this is old news, I haven't read all the thread, just thought it might be useful! The clinic is called This Is My and their site is here Smile

gunwalloe · 10/03/2014 14:59

Just back from my second attempt at the harmony test after they pushed my dates back last week and I wasn't far enough along by 3 days.
Guess what?.......... they've only pushed me back forward 3 days meaning was I ten weeks last week? Or is this baby a pain already lol
Anyway scan was good nice fast heartbeat and she checked the blood flow for the heart and stomach all looking good ive now had the blood test so its my two week wait now. Tick Tock

ohthegoats · 10/03/2014 17:23

Oh that's a bit annoying! Still, good that it's all good.

gunwalloe · 10/03/2014 17:34

ohthegoats im relieved its done now do you think you will wait two weeks for the result or phone? I think by next week I will be antsy for the results.

ohthegoats · 11/03/2014 20:42

I don't think I'll phone. It sounds as if they phone YOU if it's bad news/you might want to go for CVS.. maybe to get you in earlier or something, so I think I'll wait and see. Maybe. Perhaps. I have no idea. Ha..

jessplussomeonenew · 12/03/2014 07:50

FMC called me with good news so don't panic that a call from the clinic automatically means bsd news!

gunwalloe · 13/03/2014 12:01

jess when they called you can you remember if a phone number came up or if it was a private number?

Im counting the days down until the 24th now how many of us are on countdown to get the results?

Caterinas2014 · 13/03/2014 17:05

Hi everybody!
Today I had my nuchal scan in FMC and received Harmony results. Everything is perfect! And I'm having a girl! I have 14 months old boy already and I can't describe what I feel!
Blood was also good. The best 400£ ever spent in my life!

gunwalloe · 13/03/2014 17:17

Yay congrats caterinas2014 had you told them you wanted to know the sex? I forgot to tell the sonographer but remembered when I was having the blood taken so told the phlebotomist hopefully I will be able to find out.

Caterinas2014 · 13/03/2014 17:29

Yes, I told them many times to be sure :D
These 14 days were tough...

Tranquilitybaby · 13/03/2014 18:39

Aww that's great news congratulations x

jessplussomeonenew · 13/03/2014 19:00

Hi gw, the clinic's number came up when they called. Fx you'll get good news soon.

Cat, congratulations - must be such a weight off your mind.

CrispyFB · 13/03/2014 23:03

Caterinas - Wonderful news!! Good luck to everyone still waiting!

gunwalloe · 18/03/2014 10:25

Just had a call from the FMC unfortunately there wasn't enough baby dna in my blood so ive got to go back for a redraw :( Im having the nuchal with them next Monday so I will have the blood taken again then what a pain!
ohthegoats if my results are in yours should be to as you were a day before me :)

CrispyFB · 18/03/2014 11:16

Oh no, what a literal pain!! It happens occasionally but it's still annoying when it does. Not what you need after waiting two weeks..

JBrd · 18/03/2014 13:35

Urgh, gun what a pain!

But you're not the only one who has to go back - I had my (supposedly) 10-week appointment last Tuesday, only to be told that the bean isn't measuring big enough for them to take the bloods (it was 30.5mm, but has to be 33mm, apparently). So I have to go back today for the second attempt. Very annoying!
I really hope bean managed to grow at least 3mm in the last week, having to traipse into London every week is time-consuming and 'flippin' expensive...

jessplussomeonenew · 18/03/2014 13:57

Sorry to hear about all the testing and retesting, gun and JB. Hope you get it all sorted soon!
