Please help me settle a minor disagreement!

Toddler did a poo less than half an hour before bedtime. I scooped him up to change, but DP said don't bother, I'll be giving him a bath in twenty minutes anyway. It wasn't a dramatic nappy-filler or anything but it was smelly! I've always thought you should change a dirty nappy as soon as possible to avoid rashes etc. but DP is far more laid back about this stuff. It was only twenty minutes before he did finally take the nappy off but I wasn't happy and let him know! So WIB an unreasonable fusspot?

I think leaving anyone in a dirty nappy knowingly is pretty bad. Absolutely change it

Leftphalange100 · 11/08/2023 18:22

Ask your husband if he would like to sit in his own poo for 20mins?

Howlingmoor · 11/08/2023 18:22

I would have brought bath time forward 20 minutes so as not to waste a nappy.

GuardiansPlayList · 11/08/2023 18:22

YABU to use the word Nazi in jest.

Hoppinggreen · 11/08/2023 18:23

I used to change my DC as soon as I was aware of a poo, no way would I leave it because they were having a bath later

TropicalTrama · 11/08/2023 18:23

Do you really have to say nazi?? Wtf is wrong with you?

But yes I would change mine immediately then probably let them run around without a nappy on before their bath!

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 11/08/2023 18:23

I would always leave it for 5 mins with mine, but that’s because I fell foul of the danger “2nd poo” lots of times and ended up doing it twice!

if they were going for a bath in 20 mins I probably would have just bathed them early

mnahmnah · 11/08/2023 18:23

Leaving them in a dirty nappy is a UTI risk. Not fun for a baby. Just ring bathtime forward.

Allinadayswork80 · 11/08/2023 18:24

I don’t think this is very nice for the little one and yes, it can cause irritation and sore bits. I would’ve changed it or brought bath time forward.

UpaladderwatchingTV · 11/08/2023 18:24

Yuk! I would have thought that allowing the baby to get used to sitting in poo, will make it more difficult when it comes to potty training.

AmbleInAnnBoleyn · 11/08/2023 18:24

Bring bathtime forward surely.

Using Nazi is really not on. It shouldn't be shorthand for fussiness.

RightOnTheEdge · 11/08/2023 18:24

YANBU. That's disgusting! Would your H like to sit in his own poo for 20 minutes?
Is there a reason he couldn't have just bathed him then?

multisurface · 11/08/2023 18:24

Yeah why did you say Nazi?

NuffSaidSam · 11/08/2023 18:24

No, that's not acceptable.

You either move bath time forward 20 mins or you leave toddler nappy-free for 20 minutes (good for them to get a bit of air to it), but you don't leave him sitting in his own poo.

DilemmaDelilah · 11/08/2023 18:25

I would have brought bath time forward. Your baby should not have to sit in a dirty nappy, but there is no point in putting on a clean one.

Sirzy · 11/08/2023 18:25

I would have either done the bath a bit earlier or given him 20 minutes happy free time (on a towel!)

Precipice · 11/08/2023 18:25

YABU to use trivialise multiple genocides in this way.

HowToSaveAWife · 11/08/2023 18:25

Don't understand why anyone wouldn't just... Start the bedtime a few mins earlier? Toddler has shat the nappy, and the two options are take him and change him and bring him back to what he was doing or wait 20 mins then start the bedtime routine? Surely the middle ground is just take him, change it and start bedtime. For the sake of 20 mins, your option and his option seem oppositional for the sake of it.

Don't tie yourself up in knots for exact times with toddlers.

Soubriquet · 11/08/2023 18:26

God no. Change the nappy as soon as you know it’s dirty. If bath time is that close, I would let them go bare bum

Invisimamma · 11/08/2023 18:27

So close to bath time I would've taken the nappy off and wiped them clean but not replaced with a new one, just let them have some nappy off time while the bath runs.

This, or get washable nappies then it isn't a cost issue

SORRY I misread, I thought you meant you'd change him and bring him back. I don't think you're being fussy but I don't think I'd allow DP to dictate that I'd leave baby in a shitty nappy for his convenience.

But also: YABU and a dick to use Nazi in this way. It's not a term to be trivialized.

Flimflambutterbeer · 11/08/2023 18:29

Just do bath time earlier.

(It's threads like this that end up being discussed on other forums and get torn to shreds!) 🤦‍♀️

10HailMarys · 11/08/2023 18:30

Full disclosure: I’m not a parent. But surely the solution here is to get them out of the dirty nappy and then either put them in the bath early, or just let them have a bare bum for 20 minutes?
