every time you get out the laminator, you must sing
'it's the lam in ay terrrrrr...' in the tv show gladiator style'

it's the law

AlCrowley · 03/07/2010 08:03

I love my new laminator too. Got it for my birthday

sockmonkey · 03/07/2010 08:04

Hehehe... DH mocked me when I asked for a laminator, but he uses it almost as much as me
They are great aren't they. I love the smell of a warm laminated item.
When the DC get certificates from school, it's almost as exciting to get them laminated as it is for the thing they've done well.

malovitt · 03/07/2010 08:04

I want one - any recommendations?

Or are they all basically the same?

sockmonkey · 03/07/2010 08:13

I think they are mostly the same really.
What have you laminated so far Butterpie?

HouseofCrazy · 03/07/2010 08:19

YANBU AT ALL!! I am . I have wanted one for ages. Iwould laminate the whole house!

AlCrowley · 03/07/2010 08:24

I have a Fellows Saturn A4. It's fab. I have learnt that you need to leave it a bit longer after it's beeped to say it's ready for a really smooth result.

sockmonkey · 03/07/2010 08:54

Ooh, if you are feeling crafty, you can fill one of the pouches with glitter and sequins, pop through laminator, then cut into butterfly shapes.
Can hang it from window, nice & sparkley.

phoenixflower · 03/07/2010 10:42

I have one but never use it. What sort of things do you laminate? >

AlCrowley · 03/07/2010 13:12

I want to do that now sockmonkey!! Need some more pouches though

NadiaWadia · 03/07/2010 16:06

Yes they are great, but be careful -DH laminated DD's GCSE certificates and afterwards I found out that this means they are not official any more or something like that - because the laminating means they cannot be machine-read. So I have to stop him getting at her AS and A level certs when they come!

NarkyPuffin · 03/07/2010 16:34

Would it be bad to laminate children? Life would be so much easier if they were wipe clean.

thislittlesisterlola · 03/07/2010 16:44

I love them you are most definitely not being unreasonable. on mat leave and I miss the warm laminated smell

NarkyPuffin wipe clean children- now that is a good idea!

sockmonkey · 03/07/2010 17:22

Narky Genius idea.

Fizzylemonade · 03/07/2010 17:30

I laminate ruled lined paper so that ds2 starts school he can learn to write on that (as recommended by ds1's teacher, cheaper than a wipeboard and does the same job)

I made labels and laminated them for the dc's playroom storage, oh and my storage boxes for cleaning stuff/holiday things/swim stuff.

I did a tick chart so that ds1 remembers where he is up to in a morning, like has he brushed his teeth, fed his fish?

devilsadvocaat We do that!! Except in the style of "The Navigator" a film I watched in the 80's, so we say "I am the laminator"

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/07/2010 17:33

Don't laminate sausages. I tried once and it didn't work out too well for the laminator.

bluebump · 03/07/2010 17:35

I so want a laminator.

My friend had a laminator and came home to find her housemate had laminated a pair of her (my friends) knickers and put them on the wall. It took her ages to notice. It wouldn't surprise you to know her housemate was male!

Butterpie · 03/07/2010 18:12

I had to laminate some posters for my bookstall, but I have plans of tick lists and puzzles for the kids I like the sparkly idea too...

OP posts:
atworknotworking · 03/07/2010 18:20

If you put glue in with the sparklies wailt for it to dry before laminating.

Mine set on fire

But did get a shiney new one the next day

devilsadvocaat · 04/07/2010 21:41

lol about the knickers!

fizzy -

EcoLady · 04/07/2010 21:46

Personalised placemats for parties that double up as gifts for the end :-)

MrsMellowdrummer · 04/07/2010 21:53

Laminators are great. In fact, the best thing about starting my own business, was the fact that it was completely necessary to finally buy my own laminator. And yes, you can laminate pretty much anything. We printed out horses heads recently, laminated them, and stuck them on old wrapping paper rolls, and hey presto the world's cheapest hobby horses! We have also laminated umbrella shaped bits of fabric, and stuck them to wooden spoons... voila - beautiful umbrellas!

MrsMellowdrummer · 04/07/2010 21:55

Oh, and laminate pics of family members, punch holes in the tops, and use a key ring loop thing to bind them together. Sturdy little book full of photos of your children's favourite people!

Butterpie · 04/07/2010 23:31

I'm loving these ideas!

Ohh, would appreciate laminator reccs as need to laminate a lot of stuff. Would you get a basic one from Tescos or did you pay loads?
