My parents have one (necessary for their business apparently).

My mum laminated a picture of Colin Firth.

My dad laminated Selina Scott in retaliation.

Ozzie, I like your Mum's style. LOL at your Dad.

anonymousbird · 05/07/2010 17:01

What a hoot, I WANT ONE!!! Dh will think I have finally completely lost it when that goes on my birthday list. I could laminate loads of stuff..

Didn't realise that "people" as opposed to "businesses" actually had these things and they were so readily available..

This may be a silly question, but if you laminate something (SAY the tidying up rota, or equivalent, just say) is it then effectively a wipe clean item for ticks, black marks etc etc???

I am a completely inexperienced laminator, as you can tell, however, am getting ludicrously excited at the prospect..

MadameBelle · 05/07/2010 17:04

I have just upgraded to an A3 laminator

The latest thing I've used it for is laminating table mats that the dc had made.

Last Christmas they decorated bookmarks for all the grandparents and laminated them.

TheMoonOnAStick · 05/07/2010 17:05

I have a few things that dc have done I'd like to laminate.

Come on admit it! I bet it's not just laminators we're talking about here. You're all into stationery aren't you??

Butterpie · 05/07/2010 17:59

I made a 3x8 grid, put days of the week and am-pm on and got DD1 to decorate it, laminated it and it is now her wipe clean weekly scedule!

I love my laminator too! WH Smith usually has them on permanent half price offer for about £11 if that helps. I got one and it's fine - I get the sheets from Asda as they're cheapest in there.

AlCrowley · 05/07/2010 19:54

Where are my new laminator pouches!!! I have loads of new things I need to laminate after reading this thread

InVinoFerretsAss · 05/07/2010 19:58

What would happen if you laminated a cheese single? Aren't they already laminated??

I LOVE my laminator. Wondering if you can laminate pressed flowers?

Waltons · 05/07/2010 20:41

I got my Beavers to make treasure maps - tear the edges of the pieces of paper to make island shapes, then draw a treasure map, "age" it with a damp teabag, let it dry and laminate it. It makes a great place mat!

Thinking of doing something similar for Mother's Day next year, but with lots of hearts and flowers. Wondering about doing something for the Grannies & Grandpas too?

InVinoFerretsAss (love your user name!), I am sure that you could laminate pressed flowers. Make sure that they are completely dry, and add a dab of glue on the back to hold them in place as they go through the laminator.

I laminate EVERYTHING in this house - reminder lists for the front door, address lists, phone lists, regular shopping lists, lists of DVDs, husband, kids ... Sad but true ...

JeMeSouviens · 05/07/2010 20:44

I'd LOVE a laminator too, I've also had a hankering for one of those little label machine doodads.

I got a laminator for my birthday today. I asked fir it too, which I was embarrassed about until I read this thread and came to realise that I'm not alone.

Ozziegirly · 06/07/2010 00:17

I love the idea of having a laminated shopping list with the regular things typed on, and then a grid where I could write in other products that I could then wipe off after each shop.

Moononastick (love that name)I do love stationery as well. There's a shop here called Kikki K (I think you may have it in the UK too?) which just sells loads of products for organising your life. It's wonderful.

lovely things

EduStudent · 06/07/2010 00:44

My Mum once worked with a man who accidentally laminated his tie. Don't do that.

He just cut it off and wore the remains for the rest of the day. But then he was an Ed Psych

Mumcentreplus · 06/07/2010 00:50

hehehe@EduStudent I could only read 'My Mum once worked with a man who accidentally laminated his.... just had to check what was laminated

EduStudent · 06/07/2010 01:17

Oh that would be brilliant on Blankety Blank!

sockmonkey · 06/07/2010 11:15

Stationery :: dribbles ::

Moononastick you are absolutely right. I even considered going into teaching because they get a stationery cupboard. Squeee.

Mowgli1970 · 06/07/2010 13:25

I love this thread! I am like Monica from Friends - I print out certificates/star charts/bookmarks for the kids but always lamented the lack of a laminator (see? Anal!) I'm SO getting one now!

Plumm · 07/10/2010 09:16

I knew i would find a thread about laminators on MN! Do you recommend I buy an expensive machine or will a cheapy do the job just as well?

Tippychoocks · 07/10/2010 09:19

I have a cheapy, it is fine. I don't laminate all the time as I would feel the eco guilt too keenly. But I do like my laminator Grin

seenyertoeslately · 07/10/2010 09:59

'What would happen if you laminated a cheese single? Aren't they already laminated??'Grin

I like to laminate autumn leaves and flowers.
