AIBU to feel a little bit sick every time this song comes on? It's just so wanna-be sexually aggressive on one hand, then singing 'love me love me' on the other. It is totally messed up and reminds me horribly of teenage bravado and vulnerability, but in all the wrong ways. There is something terribly grubby in the way it taunts and mocks. I hate it with a passion and do not think it should be played in the middle of the day with children listening - and I'm no prude and very open minded, honest. AIBU?

YANBU. Although most of the music in the charts has this kind of message. It's utterly depressing. Why does all the decent music end up being "alternative" - who are these people who like this music and deem it "popular"?

SimonCowellIsSatan · 19/05/2010 06:54

Listen to music, not shite! Radio 6 is great.

BouncingTurtle · 19/05/2010 07:03

I've just google the lyrics.
Maybe we're getting old/prudish these days, Normlity but I thought the lyrics were ewwwww, they are really dirty!

Makes FGTH's Relax sound like it was sung by a bunch of choir boys!

Chandon · 19/05/2010 07:48

yanbu

msrisotto · 19/05/2010 07:56

I find it offensive tbh, it's just so sexually aggressive and kids listen to the radio! I'm 24 and not exactly a fuddy duddy either.

nowherewoman · 19/05/2010 08:16

Second 6 music.

Thankfully I don't know what you're talking about, and it's all thanks to 6 music

2shoes · 19/05/2010 08:17

yanbu
havn't heard it but should imagine it is crap

blackflyinyourchardonnay · 19/05/2010 08:21

Yanbu it's a horrible song.

The video came on the other day, and I turned it off wondering if I was turning into an old fart.

Nice to know others hate it too, we are all nbu!

YANBU it's foul and I shudder when I see little girls singing it in the playground (which I have) even though they probably don't know what the lyrics mean.

RunforFun · 19/05/2010 09:52

YANBU.

I detest it too. My kids just turn it off now as they know I complain about it. They think its the repetition I dont like rather than the actual words iykwim.

So I think my reacting to it as jumping vocals has worked rather than reacting to its unsuitable sexual content

Never heard of Radio 6 as I am clearly stuck in Radio 4 world or even Radio 2 !

ShesEverSoFamous · 19/05/2010 09:58

YANBU!
This song is funny if we're out on a Saturday night and some of the moves DH pulls are rather brilliant, but if DD were to pick the lyrics up and start singing along as she does with every other song out there I would be .
Her favourite band at the mo here This I can deal with. Very cheesy pop.

katiepotatie · 19/05/2010 10:03

YANBU - It is utter crap! My dh listens to some stuff with swearing in it, but even he says this is shocking, I don't think it should be on the radio!
Wouldn't let my 3 year old listen to it, she picks up lyrics so easily

Elvisina · 19/05/2010 11:23

Wow! I've just googled the lyrics too and am very shocked also! I saw her in an interview after the Chris Brown court case and she said that she now felt a responsibility to projecting a strong positive image to girls that we shouldn't be controlled by men. However, I agree that this song does not do this at all (even though she would probably argue differently). Just playing into the whole 'I'm so sexy and that's what's most important'role. Hardly my idea of "projecting a strong positive image to girls".

ladylush · 19/05/2010 11:33

Yanbu - a lot of the songs/vids shown on channels like mtv are way too provocative (shakira and lady gaga spring to mind as well). They are often showing at my gym and look even more explicit without sound somehow.
From an aesthetic point of view though I think the Rudeboy video is very arty.

VinegarTits · 19/05/2010 11:36

YABU turn your radio off if you no likey

blackflyinyourchardonnay · 19/05/2010 11:37

"Giddy up" though! Hilarious! If a man is unfortunate enough to meet me If I meet a new man, I'll give it a while and shall suggest it.

PlanetEarth · 19/05/2010 12:30

When my 10-yr-old daughter was listening to the radio the other day and this song came on I said it was going off, as the song was about sex and was inappropriate. She had no idea! I can just imagine her in the playground, "Come on boy, boy, boy..." well you know the rest...

Never thought I'd say this, but it would be nice to have to have some radio stations and television channels (other than cbeebies!) that you could switch on without being subjected to sex (of the crude or offensive variety) and swearing.

tittybangbang · 19/05/2010 12:52

I love this song.

But it is dirty, and it makes me cringe when my 6 year old and 10 year old sing along to it.

DD(10) asked me what it was about, which makes me think she is innocent enough not to really understand it, as I reckon most children are. That said - once she'd asked me I had to tell her!

rude!

YoMoJo · 19/05/2010 16:18

just went to tittybangbangs link

This was one of the comments

"I let my daughter listen to this song. She told me what it means, she guessed and she was right. Now when I go into her room I see her playing dolls and making them say Can you get it up. Is it big enough ? Its so cute, funny, and some times inappropiate."

WTF!

Sidge · 19/05/2010 16:45

I hadn't heard this song so just looked it up on YouTube.

Fuck me, I'm no prude but that is just horrid. And since when did dancing like a poledancer make you a strong positive image to girls? Yuk.

I am officially an Old Fart and I listen to local radio - nothing too offensive on there that I wouldn't want my DDs listening to!

TheLadyOfTheGreenKirtle · 19/05/2010 16:49

its a vile song. went to ds's friends party on saturday and the dj played this. they are 5 ffs. totally inappropriate and shouldnt be played before a certain time imvho

cupcakesandbunting · 19/05/2010 16:54

Thirded for 6 Music. 'Tis an aural haven away from the musical poppycock on more commercial stations plus it has the delicious Guy Garvey on a sunday night and definitely no Rihanna asking unsavoury men to give it to her like boom boom boom.

Yuck.

prettyfly1 · 19/05/2010 17:12

ick - I would not want a daughter of mine singing that - mind you its not new - another level anyone?

cupcakesandbunting · 19/05/2010 17:14

Buck's Fizz, anyone?

I remember my granny nearly choking on her trifle when the chaps whipped the skirts off the girls.
