he had these massive holes in them, held open by a ring of steel the size of a £2 coin

what the fuck? Is this a new "thing"? it's repulsive!

YABU. Why you would want to puke over anyone for their personal dress sense/style would be beyond me.

Large holes like this have been around for years. Cant say I like them, but they're definately not a new thing.

HellenaHandcart · 26/04/2010 20:19

I really like the look of them. But i wonder if you have to keep them in forever or do your earlobes just go floppy?

smokinaces · 26/04/2010 20:22

Hellena they go floppy if the ring is removed, and if taken out for too long will need to be "restretched". They can close up, but obviously can take a long time, and maybe need a couple of cuts/stitches if very big and old.

Ex-DH had some. Not too big, but big enough that if he lost the ring whilst out in the club he would stick a fag in it to keep it open.

Mumcentreplus · 26/04/2010 20:23

Yep they go floppy..

But hey..if thats what floats ya boat..imagine the guy I met with spikes screwed into his head mohican stylee..quite un-nerving but he was a lovely bloke ...he had those ears too...

fruitshootsandheaves · 26/04/2010 20:24

They are so he can change gear quickly in his postvan when he only has to drive a few yards and still has his hands full of letters.

TheFallenMadonna · 26/04/2010 20:24

Lots of my pupils have these now. It's frowned upon.

mummyofexcitedprincesses · 26/04/2010 20:25

Puking seems a little extreme. I think they can look pretty cool on the right people.

C4ro · 26/04/2010 20:27

Depending on how large you want them, you have to get an ear stretching kit and gradually make the hole larger to fit either plugs or the tapers. No reputable piercers will shortcut and use a large needle as then you have very little option of downsizing later. You can normally go up to 1/4" and still have it more or less go back (if you want it to).

Greensleeves · 26/04/2010 20:27

well they turned my stomach

Meglet · 26/04/2010 20:29

I know lots of people with them. They look good with just a small hole. But, yes, they look daft when they have to take a huge ring out to work in Morrisons which one poor lad has ot do round here.

HellenaHandcart · 26/04/2010 20:29

I have also seen fake ones that are small circle mirrors - now that's sad!

PersonalClown · 26/04/2010 20:29

Granted mine are not that big, I can put a pen in my holes if I take my tunnels out but what's the big deal??

I wanted them, along with my other piercings and tattoos. It's my choice. I have some quite fabulous tunnels!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/04/2010 20:31

They're called flesh tunnels I think.

When I see them I can't help but stare at them.

SoupDragon · 26/04/2010 20:31

I don't feel like puking when I see them but I find them morbidly fascinating. And utterly repulsive.

Phrenology · 26/04/2010 20:32

Agree with Greeny, they are vomit making.

Mumcentreplus · 26/04/2010 20:38

me too Soupy!!

Mumcentreplus · 26/04/2010 20:42

I imagine when they are old..with hair sprouting from their ears how 'cool' they will look? ...but then..they wont be alone it seems..perhaps a plastic surgeon will invent some ground-breaking plastic fantastic surgery to make them look passable in the future?

BuzzingNoise · 26/04/2010 20:42

I think your reaction to want to puke is rather OTT.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 26/04/2010 20:44

I'm with Mumcentre. I can't help imagining them as old men, with their saggy earlobes and haid sprouting from them. I also have this worrying desire to go up to one and stick my finger into the hole, verrrrry slooooooowly...

AnyFucker · 26/04/2010 20:45

I don't like 'em

But then I don't see what the attraction is in mutilating a perfectly good body...

< adjusts bosoms >

Greensleeves · 26/04/2010 20:45

maybe to you it is OTT

but I imagine things disgust you that wouldn't bother me - we don't choose what produces a gut reaction

I don't have any prejudice or small-p political problem with piercings etc

but this particular one just made me feel queasy - I'd never seen it before and it looked horrible, like a string of human flesh, like a mouse's tail or something

OP posts:
Mumcentreplus · 26/04/2010 21:02

notes :- obviously AF never wears uplift bras because that would elevate her said bosoms to an un-natural and possibly mutated position on her chest ...

Shodan · 26/04/2010 21:04

It turns my stomach too, tbh.

So does that thing some rugby players have - 'cauliflower ear'.

Bleugh.

AnyFucker · 26/04/2010 21:16

MCP, if I wore uplift bras I wouldn't be able to "adjust" my bosoms in such a judgemental and matronly way

Mumcentreplus · 26/04/2010 21:21

quite ...[she probably hides then next to her leather gimp mask and cat-suit]
