Half the time I have no idea what everyone is going on about. BTDT, DH, DD, DP, YABU etc, etc,

Grrrrrrrrr

I'm sure you'll fit right in in no time.

Btw (by the way) not everyone uses them here as Showy says, and those that do use some don't necessarily use them all the time, - sometimes I think it depends whether we're tapping out a post on a handheld or a pc, it is for me anyway.

YonicScrewdriver · 10/10/2014 12:07

I find communications on MN v clear, as do the other 999,999 users or whatever we are up to now.

ChippingInLatteLover · 10/10/2014 12:09

No one is forcing you to stay. But if you do, then stop bumping four year old threads, it's annoying.

rebelfor · 10/10/2014 12:10

I don't personally use them, but have no trouble in understanding them.

You get used to them after a while IYSWIM?

ThorOdinBahamut · 10/10/2014 12:32

Thanks Fenton,

To show that I try to fit in, here's my first ever post on MN, where I do use initialisms ;-).

Apologies for the bump, as I said, it was the first result of my search and thought this was the most relevant.

I'll stay.

Not sure that you are in charge are you?

I hate it when I read a thread about family disputes and it's all "DS2 spoke to DSDS1 who wanted to play with my DN and DN2 but MIL said no. As a result my DM spoke to my DSB and his DD and they decided to just take DSS and DSD3 to the park where DD and DS was already there with DGM and her DD3."

WTF??!!!!

I think any threads involving 3 family members or more should be banned Grin Grin

It always amuses me that everyone is darling or dear - even abusive exes. With the exception of mothers in law.

Handsoff7 · 10/10/2014 15:32

DF can be confusing.

Sometimes it means fiancé sometimes father and can make a thread really odd if you read it the other way!

Erm, not ones that get used here, you don't.

Also, your thread is a massive stealth boast (can someone else explain that please because I cba - there's another 'initialism' for you).

Jux · 10/10/2014 16:04

They are not abbreviations. So everyone who thinks they're abbrevs is being vvvvvu indeed.

Mwuh huh huh huh.

snowymoonyelky · 25/12/2015 01:23

So WTF does YABU mean??? Jeez!!!

Leelu6 · 25/12/2015 07:55

Usually it means Yet Another Browser Update.

But could also be short for Yabu dabu doo (from The Flintstones) to denote happiness and excitement.

lighteningirl · 25/12/2015 08:02

Yoni's Are Being Underused, it's why we are all on here.

Saves a lot of typing!
The abbreviations are not something I'd use in real life!

I was a member of a forum for many years that completely eschewed all abbreviations and the mods would step in to stop people from using them. I never really got into the habit of using them, so it pulls me up short trying to remember what they stand for here. Every forum has its own rules and "culture" so to speak, so it would be ridiculous for me to complain about abbreviations here.

I still don't use them often, though.

Nice blast from the past there :o
