I Love You Phillip Morris

Are you a fan of Jim Carrey. Were you thinking of seeing this film because it is a comedy? If so, don't, because it's NOT. It is a sad and badly written film which also includes graphic gay sex scenes and graphic gay sex talk, mostly set in a prison. That's fine if that is what you want to see, but it is being missold to us and - our teenage children - as a typical "madcap" Jim Carrey comedy.
You have been warned!

Thanks for the warning!

groundhogs · 21/03/2010 08:58

Ah, thanks for that... Gah, nothing I hate more than an over hyped and mis-promoted film.

Gay sex talk? Heaven forbid. A quick jaunt to the imdb page would have warned you of this beforehand Hemprose. And none of the reviews I have read seem to find it offensive in the least

tartyhighheels · 21/03/2010 09:04

graphic gay sex??? booking tickets right now.... thanks for the tip-off

kreecherlivesupstairs · 21/03/2010 09:10

I thought it was a thread praising the quality of tobacco. PM makes my brand of cigs.

Wineonafridaynight · 21/03/2010 09:16

lol at Kreecher. I didn't have a clue what the film was about when I saw it advertised and wondered if it was about smoking! I thought it was a sneaky way to advertise cigarettes!

skihorse · 21/03/2010 09:19

Hot gay sex eh? Nom, Nom.

kreecher I too thought it was about fags... oh.

serenity · 21/03/2010 09:23

It's a 15 rated story of two con men (note men) meeting and falling in love. The 'gay' and the 'sex' shouldn't really have been a surprise...

JavaBean247 · 21/03/2010 09:23

I thought it was a good film - clever in places and funny.

There aren't any "graphic" gay sex scenes. Nothing more offensive than the usual soft core porn found in 15 rated films.

The rest was just some blokes kissing.

serenity · 21/03/2010 09:27

"Damon Wise of The Times gave the film four stars out of five stating, "I Love You Phillip Morris is an extraordinary film that serves as a reminder of just how good Carrey can be when he's not tied into a generic Hollywood crowd-pleaser. His comic timing remains as exquisite as ever."[5] Xan Brooks of The Guardian also gave the film a positive review, describing the movie as "fast, funny and rather daring. A whisk of caffeine with a center that's sweet.""

I've been looking forward to it for a while. I like Jim Carrey, and adore Ewan McGregor.

amber1979 · 21/03/2010 09:28

Haven't seen it. Think I might now.

"graphic gay sex talk"

We need Simon Bates back to warn us about "sexual swear words" and now "graphic gay sex talk".

I really like Jim Carrey in The Truman Show and Endless Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which is a truly wonderful film and everyone should see it).

policywonk · 21/03/2010 12:22

LOL Simon Bates

Hemprose, do you also come on here to warn us about 'graphic straight sex scenes and graphic straight sex talk'? Cos I seem to have missed those threads.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/03/2010 12:38

It's a 15 - it has age appropriate kissing between a couple in love.

I'm going to take a wee guess that the OP is 'anti-gay'

LadyBiscuit · 21/03/2010 12:43

How is it being missold? Trailer and synopsis: I Love You Phillip Morris is based on the real life events of con artist, impostor, and multiple prison escapee Steven Jay Russell (Jim Carrey). While incarcerated, Russell falls in love with his cell mate, Phillip Morris (Ewan McGregor). After Morris is released from prison, Russell escapes from prison four times in order to be reunited with Morris.

How were you expecting that story not to be about gay men?
