To hate seeing twins dressed the same...

Hi,

My identical girls are 2.5.
I have always tried to dress them differently. Even though it seems much more common for twins to be dressed the same I personally really don't like it. To be honest it kind of makes me cringe. It's just so "ooh look at us - we're twins aren't we cute"

I really want them to find their own likes and dislikes and be individuals instead of growing up always having to have the same clothes on the same day etc....

Having said that their clothes need to be co-ordinating or they will get upset i.e. I cant dress one in a dress and the other in trousers..and they seem to be getting more fussy and I am starting to feel guilty if they both prefer one thing I have bought over another....so worried I am going to end up in the identical dressing trap because of guilt.

I would be embarrased walking down the street with them dressed top to toe in the same outfit but other twin parents seem to revel in the "cutesy" factor of it?!

I don't get it.

A year between me and my brother but we often wore identical outfits. Possibly not so much to do with personalities as with the fact that if our mum found something cheap she wasn't going to go and buy something expensive for one of us just for the sake of it. As for my bro and me, never occurred to us that you expressed your personality through clothes.

cillysunt obviously doesn't have twins and has too much spare time to bother going around and checking what other peoples kids are wearing!!!! Get a life

I always thought noooo and my close friend often dressed her dd's the same even though 2.5yr gap and it made me cringe especially on photos. Swore i wouldn't dress my DS's (4&1.5) the same but they do have some matching clothes bought by others and DS1 often likes to be the same as his bro so I'm mellowing to it they do look sweet dressed the same. Would not do all the time tho. They have matching bright red fleeces and as a pp said it is handy to be able to spot which are yours straight away in a busy place.

You are being daft. Not yours to 'hate' how others dress their children, is it? Or how they cut their hair.

When I buy clothes for my twins I always try to find stuff in different colours, but I do like to see them wearing the same every now and again. They are nearly ten now and they are choosing their own clothes for when they go out or for weekends, they have uniform for school. They rarely coose the same things except when we are going out somewhere special.

I don't think it matters when they are too young to have a view. It isn't long before they are old enough to make their own feelings known.
