To hate blue Christmas lights?

gorgeousgirl · 07/12/2009 20:44

Ok not the end of the world, but they are everywhere this year.

Ok - they are elegant/ pretty etc. But they are NOT Christmassy. Christmas is about warm colours - reds/ golds/ greens/ yellows etc. When it's cold, drab and drizzly, the warm colours brighten the place.

The blue lights just seem so cold and yuk. Snow Queen and cold, not Christmas!!

gorgeousgirl, may I ask if you are in Kent as this sounds so very similar to my experience. for you !

Bloody cunting midwife nearly tipped my baby onto the floor - when i had DD1 twenty years ago now, the thing to do while BF was to swaddle tightly - so thats what i was trying. The woman had no patience and came and shouted at me for swaddling her, told me i wasn't listening and proceeded to tip DD out of her blanket - i told her to fuck off and leave me to it - the bitch!! I would like to say that the MWs were busy but they were all sat in their nurses room doing very little whenever i asked. They ended up just telling me to use formula, they didn't even get off their fat arses to show me where it was

I continued to have trouble BF when i got home - turned out my milk just didnt come in and DD was starving, i was then allowed to go to the local birthing centre and it couldnt have been more different. We were all admitted, Dad too - they even pushed the beds together for us (how sweet) so we could snuggle up. The MWs were wonderful, if a little bit mixed in their approach, but there was no way i was leaving there until i was happily breast feeding.

Blue led lights are the cheapest way to make them. Hence the mass amounts around now.

I dont like them, very unchristmassy. Sorry those who have them!!

nannynobnobs · 08/12/2009 20:15

My lights are old and a mixture of all colours. I love them
Our town's Christmas tree has had all blue lights on it for the past few years, since they 'modernised'. The old ones were all colours, big fat jolly bulbs, with strings hanging around the square too. Now its just shitty blue ones on the tree and shitty white ones down the high St (The holdings are all multicoloured but they swapped out the coloured bulbs for cheaper white ones a couple of years in)
The lights on my grandparents' tree when I was growing up were gorgeous- white, pink, cranberry red, acid green and a lovely pale peachy colour. Very rustic I had the set passed down to me but my old cat murdered them.

YABU I have blue white and silver this year and it is beautiful- best I've done yet and mine are always fab. I also have all the little old fashioned light up ornaments like the little train set whizzing round, a snowman with children ice skating in it's tummy... in fact I have loads of snowmen this year.

It's gorge.

MadameDuBain · 08/12/2009 23:49

Isn't it something to do with a new kind of light - LED or something - where even the ones that are supposed to be white look bluish. We got some last year from habitat that seemed to be white in the pack, but switched on they had that cold blue tinge, and also, though I sound like a delicate flower, gave me a horrible headache. So yanbu, I hate them too.

Traditional white xmas lights are slightly yellowy, just like traditional household lightbulbs and that's what gives that lovely warm look.

Squishabelle · 08/12/2009 23:54

Honie - that explains it. They are common as muck at the moment because they are cheap

madwomanintheattic · 09/12/2009 00:32

they hurt my eyes. i have trained my children to squeal loudly and announce 'more of those horrible blue lights' at full volume if we are forced to scurry past. they seriously give me a headache.

it started last christmas. we have moved and they have followed me
(the lights, not the children lol. i did bring them along)

worse, i accidentally bought 3 bleeding strings of them. it didn't say 'nasty blue' on the box, just 'clear'. they are still here, and peer vengefully at me from time to time. i'm not sure whether to charity-shop them and free them into the world, or whether to destroy them...

NotAnotherNewNappy · 09/12/2009 08:26

This is my first year with a toddler and i have switched from lovely real tree with yellow/white lights to no mess, no baubles that must be grabbed, just take out of the box and plug in fibre optic monstrosity. It changes colours and sometimes goes torquoise. Is that allowed?

My mum put some blue tinged multi coloured lights outside her house. She had to turn them down as she kept thinking there was an ambulance/police car/fire engine outside

MuppetsMuggle · 09/12/2009 13:33

I have even put blue and white lights on my balcony now. Theres a pic on my profile my xmas tree is FAB

elsiepiddock · 09/12/2009 17:22

I'm going to buy LED lights this year. Does this mean they will be blue?

nappyaddict · 10/12/2009 02:27

No I've seen red, green, white and multicoloured as well.

EffiePerine · 10/12/2009 08:44

we have white lights only - and no tinsel - but I do love the tacky HUGE flash garden decorations, and so does DS. More inflatabe reindeer and power to neon Santa signs

EffiePerine · 10/12/2009 08:45

(not that we have any oursleves. But I like seeing the lengths our neighbours go to)

gagamama · 10/12/2009 09:46

I dislike them too. But I did also hate multicoloured tree lights for years and years, but this year have found myself coming round to them again and admiring them on people's trees. I was tempted to buy some lime green, teal and magenta baubles the other day too.

PMSL at police station!

gagamama · 10/12/2009 09:47

hated

gagamama · 10/12/2009 09:47

Oh fuck it. Ignore that!

gorgeousgirl · 10/12/2009 11:57

MuppetsMuggle

What a gorgeous tree! (Apart form the lights )

elsiepiddock look out for LEDs described as 'warm white' - I got some on ebay, and some sellers are including this in the description, and pointing out that they're not the bluey-white leds.

Or maybe these sellers are mnetters

MuppetsMuggle · 10/12/2009 13:56

Gorgeous girl thanks (I think my lights make the tree)
