To hate blue Christmas lights?

gorgeousgirl · 07/12/2009 20:44

Ok not the end of the world, but they are everywhere this year.

Ok - they are elegant/ pretty etc. But they are NOT Christmassy. Christmas is about warm colours - reds/ golds/ greens/ yellows etc. When it's cold, drab and drizzly, the warm colours brighten the place.

The blue lights just seem so cold and yuk. Snow Queen and cold, not Christmas!!

YANBU. My neighbours opposite us have gone OTT with outdoor flashing blue lights and it feels like there's an ambulance permanently parked outside my front door.

Very clincial and not warm and christmassy at all in my book!

TheMightyToosh · 08/12/2009 10:31

DWP - your year-round kitchen chili lights sound perfect! (An idea I may, in fact, steal )

I guess this is more what they are meant for, rather than Christmas, but I keep seeing them in the shops with the Christmas lights... perhaps it is me who has the wrong end of the stick??

TinselianAstra · 08/12/2009 10:33

Where can I get chilli lights?

drivinmecrazy · 08/12/2009 10:40

So about the chilli lights. We had some but when we got Christmas stuff down last year they had gone missing. I know I put them some where 'safe' but they have not been seen since. secretly think DH binned them because I would keep them up for months.
think I will definitely sneak out this year and buy some more and say I found them and watch for the guilty look on his face

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 08/12/2009 11:29

I got mine from a local shop - bet amazon has them though.

I love them. Nice to sit down at the table having cleaned the kitchen with a mag and a a cuppa and lovely red lghts hehe

MrsBun · 08/12/2009 12:08

We have real candles - far the best look

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 08/12/2009 12:18

Real candles! wtf?

MrsBun · 08/12/2009 12:23

yes - we have little holders that clip on (can buy online) and then you replace the candles when they have burnt down. There are always bets as to which one will be the last to go out and that person gets a chocolate. is very romantic

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 08/12/2009 12:26

Maybe you should start betting on which will set fire to the branch and who can get out of the house fastest?

Ooooh you people are the perfect people to answer my virtually ignored threads

modern christmas trees

outdoor lights

OrmIrian · 08/12/2009 12:50

Agree. They look dismal and like emergency vehicle lights.

I prefer white/yellow lights like stars and frost.

bernadetteoflourdes · 08/12/2009 12:52

YABNU. I hate them too they are tacky, cold and ruddy depressing, bring back warm white. I love tacky American Xmas movies and would love snow and our whole street done up like Xmas town. All we have are a few strings of these horrid blue fuckers and constant rain it is sooo desperate!

hattyyellow · 08/12/2009 12:52

No no no, blue is good because winter and Christmas are supposed to be cold and chilly. Therefore blue = white = cold = good.

I can't stand red or green. Red lights to me is a chain of tv/video on standby red lights. And red lights makes me think of pelvic floor exercises as my midwife always told me to do them everytime I saw a red light!

RamblingRosa · 08/12/2009 13:02

YANBU. Blue is cold. White lights are good though.

laurielee · 08/12/2009 13:04

YANBU at all. I find them really depressing and cold and not at all Christmassy. Everywhere near us seem to be festooned with these blue and white lights and I find it most upsetting!

EdgarAleNPie · 08/12/2009 13:08

YANBU. i would have bought a super large set of icicle lights had they been white...no, the dreaded blue.

not Xmassy, desn't look twinkly like ice, more like The Emergency Services.

wishingchair · 08/12/2009 13:09

YANBU but everyone has the right to choose. Mine are lovely soft twinkling white. Would never choose blue. Really don't get the annual "theme" thing either ... my tree is covered in various ornaments we've picked up over the years (and before anyone gets any images of stylish antiques, I mean that my DD's have picked them out so there is a tendency towards pink and ballerinas). I like Christmas to be comforting and familiar ... not different every year. But that is just me and others can do whatever they like.

Maleeka · 08/12/2009 13:23

Ha! I have just put up our blue and white icicle lights outside our house so there !

OrmIrian · 08/12/2009 13:26

wishingchair - our tree is like that. Although I have usually vetoed anything too outrageous Don't care for pink or blue much.

Lemonylemon · 08/12/2009 13:44

Nooooo, I don't like blue lights - they make my eyes go all funny......

YANBU. I hate blue lights too. Blue bulbs in a multicoloured mix are fine, but a house covered in blue (or green!) lights puts me in mind of a petrol station, somehow.

Lights should either be gold or multicoloured.

ILoveChocolateKnickers · 08/12/2009 16:57

I changed my whole tree decorations & lights to blue/silver icy theme, and it looks FAB so there
