Its my pfbs 1st Christmas and im soooo excited. He is 7mo. The lights and everything...he would just love it.

My dh said its totally unreasonable and to wait a few more weeks. I just want it to last as long as possible.

YABU
IT IS NOVEMBER

ElizabethWakefield · 20/11/2009 17:50

I agree with your DH, sorry! It's only mid November

GoldenSnitch · 20/11/2009 17:51

I'd wait else by the time Christmas finally comes round he and you will both be bored of it and it'll lose some of the magic.

Save it for a super exciting week or two - it is still only November after all!!

diddl · 20/11/2009 17:52

YABU

campion · 20/11/2009 17:53

YANBU if you admit it's for you and not pfb. He'll be bored with it by Monday but if it makes you happy, go for it!

mazzystartled · 20/11/2009 17:55

oh gosh don't

it will so totally be getting on your nerves by mid december
if it's fake you'll have to dust it
if its real the needles will drop
pfb will have lost all interest by day 3

try livig in the moment a bit!

if you want to get festive go and get a nice advent calendar.

ChasingSquirrels · 20/11/2009 17:56

FFS!

girlylala0807 · 20/11/2009 17:57

beccause. you are joking.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 20/11/2009 18:15

it is only another couple of weeks to wait then you can have it up for a month...

Patience!!!!!

rumpleteaser · 21/11/2009 09:05

My FB is still in my belly and I'm struggling NOT to put the decorations up!! I will probably have them up by this time next yr!

Maybe take your baby to see the xmas lights being turned on in your town or local shopping centre or something while you wait to put your own up? I think they're doing them already aren't they?
Maybe that will prolong the excitement?

PuppyMonkey · 21/11/2009 09:07

No don't. Don't spoil the real Christmas period by doing it too early.

piscesmoon · 21/11/2009 09:20

Totally unreasonable. You will spoil Christmas, and want it down by Boxing Day! Take him shopping-they are all over the place!

MrsJohnDeere · 21/11/2009 09:21

A month too early, imo.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 21/11/2009 09:26

Far, far too early.
But I will admit to looking through the box of decorations yesterday to see what we've got (bad memory) and it was a good job I did because I found a box a paint your own tree decs that I had bought in the sale last year, so now me and DS can do those.

tobago04 · 21/11/2009 09:29

I've seen 3 christmas trees up in peoples house by me
I can see why your excited, christmas is much more exciting when you have kids

MitchyInge · 21/11/2009 09:48

yabu

it will be dead before December!

thatsnotmymonster · 21/11/2009 09:55

Girlylala- you will learn (probably the hard way) that you hardly ever hear what you want to hear on MN

Is your 7mo crawling yet? If he is you will probably get very annoyed by his refusal to leave tree alone, pull all reachable decorations off, possibly pull tree over on himself...

We are putting ours up during the first week in Dec. This is what we did last year and it was fine. Still allows for plenty of festive time without causing most people to think you are a loon

Why don't you start making some Christmas cards/decorations with your lo?
You could do handprints on cards and make them into snowmen/angels etc.

I know the first Christmas is very exciting but it is mainly for you- the fun really starts when they are 3-4yrs- oh man.

piscesmoon · 21/11/2009 09:57

Take him to any garden centre and sit and admire the lights and decorations.

catinthehat2 · 21/11/2009 10:02

Split decision, YABU/YANBU.

Totally sympathise, but get a grip girl! Adevnt calendars and Christmas garden centre displays are definiteley the way to go.

piscesmoon · 21/11/2009 10:44

It is all do do with the marshmallow test for gratification/delayed gratification. I can see that you would be the DC who took the marshmallow now, girlylala-whereas I was always the DC who would have avoided temptation for the promise of 2 marshmallows, later! You will enjoy it more if you have all the anicipation!

bronze · 21/11/2009 10:51

I too have a 7 month old and one of the reasons I will be leaving it as long as possible before I put it up is because of him (bahh humbug)

LifeOfKate · 21/11/2009 16:58

aww, you're not being unreasonable, I'm putting mine up this week, although mainly because 1st dc due this week, and I don't want to have to do it when they are new/I have better things to do with my time...

DidEinsteinsMum · 21/11/2009 17:44

Ds spent the whole of the first christmas trying to pull down the christmas tree (he was 7mths too. I was begging to take it down a few days after christmas it was driving me mad. Leave til the 1st weekend in december if you are eager. its not long now. I made cute photo cards of ds for gp's, aunts and uncles in the november and this was enough to take the edge of. One cute photo is all it takes, with a nice colour background and a few nice words. Easy to do but will take you hours and keep your mind off the tree
