post in this topic, let the thread run for a bit (popping back early on to chuck a couple of logs on) then come back after a long and robust debate has ensued

and THANK individually those posters who agreed with them

it's like an awards ceremony

it's crass and it gets on my tits

don't do it please

NB this is not a thread about a thread, this is a thread about a tendency

YANBU. It drives me crazy.

Jacksmama · 08/09/2009 19:27

Greensleeves and Thunderduck
Thank you for agreeing with me.

YANBU. Makes me nuts.

thts what I'm doing wrong. No-one agrees with me so I have no-one to thank

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 08/09/2009 19:30

And if people don't thank posters they are called rude...

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 08/09/2009 19:31

I'm not talking about aasking for advice and then not saying thank you for it

I'm talking about AIBU threads where 10+ people have posted and the OP comes back and individually thanks 3 who agreed with them

slightly different

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 08/09/2009 19:32

Yep, yet again more evidence that you could never possibly in a month of sundays EVER win on an AIBU thread.

If you thank people you're crass.

If you don't you're rude and people think you're a troll.

I heart MUMsnet

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 08/09/2009 19:32

I meant 100+

OP posts:
Thunderduck · 08/09/2009 19:32

If they want people to agree with them and don't want alternative views then they shouldn't post on AIBU?

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 08/09/2009 19:33

I generally say when I have received support advice on MN "thanks everyone who posted"

not "thanks XX and YY" when 100 people took the time to post but only XX and YY said "you're right, OP"

is this complicated? I didn't think so

OP posts:
GibbonInARibbon · 08/09/2009 19:33

I think this so often. So my vote is YANBU.

Thanks in anticipation for thanking me

Sunfleurs · 08/09/2009 19:33

I love those threads!

Thunderduck · 08/09/2009 19:34

It's just thanking the people who agreed with you that's the problem Laurie. If all you want is for people to validate your decision then why post on AIBU?. It's dismissive of the others who posted but who didn't agree with the OP.

Why not just thank everyone for sharing their opinions?

shinyshoes · 08/09/2009 19:35

I have done this on a forum today, but to be honest there are so many different opinions from the last time I posted that at the moment I can't be bothered to answer them all individally.
If I answered it as one mass post then it looks as thogh i've not bothered with the post that others have had the decency to post.

IYSWIM

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 08/09/2009 19:35

also the wilful misunderstanding thing, where people WANT to disagree with you but can't, so they set up a straw man argument and disagree with at at you instead

OP posts:
Bigschoolmummy · 08/09/2009 19:36

YANBU

LaurieFairyCake · 08/09/2009 19:38

Wonder if i could have that as a ticker?

I'm reminded of the "When Harry Met Sally" line - "Can you let me know the next time you're running a class in social graces and I'll sign up".

MmeLindt · 08/09/2009 19:39

I love the AIBU threads where 95% of posters say YABU and the OP ignores them and thanks the 2% who agree with her. They make me laugh.

The other 3% are the troll hunter posters.

ElectricElephant · 08/09/2009 19:39

heh, YANBU

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 08/09/2009 19:39

might not be a bad idea Laurie, if you're finding all this a bit of a minefield

OP posts:
LaurieFairyCake · 08/09/2009 19:40

bitch

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 08/09/2009 19:41

guilty as charged

OP posts:
ElfOnTheTopShelf · 08/09/2009 19:44

You can never win on mumsnet.

GreensleevesFlouncedLikeAKnob · 08/09/2009 19:46

win what exactly? A half-price weekend break at Pontins?

nothing to do with winning

it's just bloody annoying when on a thread of 300 posts the OP comes back and says "thank you" individually to the 2 or 3 people who agreed totally with the OP

it's rude

OP posts:
southeastastra · 08/09/2009 19:47

ha yep totally agree, though i don't like aibu
