Greedy or is my sister right?

I bought myself a foot long granary french bread thing from Asda yesterday ... freshly baked ... lovely!

Anyway I commented to my sister that it would last me for 3 meals ... she raised an eyebrow and said she would eat the entire thing in one sitting. She then suggested that I'm starving myself to lose weight!

I'm not, I just think its greedy to eat a foot long bread stick! I've just used 1/3 of it to make a salmon and salad sandwich and it was just right ... anymore and I would have felt bloated.

AIBU to think its greedy to eat an entire stick in one go?

i think it depends how hungry you are. bit of an odd question and hard to quantify.

AMumInScotland · 30/04/2009 12:19

Well, it depends really, doesn't it? I'd probably get either 2 or 3 lunches out of it, but then I sit in an office chair all morning so that would do me fine.

But if I'd spent the afternoon gardening, and was having the bread as the main part of my dinner, then I'd probably get through all of it.

MillyR · 30/04/2009 12:20

Subway sandwiches are 6 inches or a foot long. I am currently on a diet and I am well under my lunchtime calorie limit with 6 inches, so a foot seems normal, not greedy. I would still feel hungry only eating a third.

Thunderduck · 30/04/2009 12:21

You're slightly paranoid about how good or bad this bread is for you I think.

It's only a foot long. I'd eat it in one or two meals at most. I can't imagine it lasting for three.

Lizzylou · 30/04/2009 12:21

DH would struggle to eat that much bread in one sitting and he likes his bread products.

It would do me 3 or so meals (if I allowed myself to eat it, am trying to stay away from anything other than crappy pitta bread atm).

KingCanuteIAm · 30/04/2009 12:22

I am wondering a little why you care - much less MN?

Kayzr · 30/04/2009 12:25

Depends how hungry I am. I'd say 2 meals because if I buy one usually I have half and DH has half.

roulade · 30/04/2009 12:29

Depends how fat it is, if its a skinny baguette then i meal, if its a big fat one then 2 or 3

roulade · 30/04/2009 12:29

1 not i [duh emoticon]

JustCallMeGoat · 30/04/2009 12:29

never mind the greed, i think it is daft to buy fresh baked bread and then not eat it until it is a day old.

StercusAccidit · 30/04/2009 12:32

Only if you could fit it in your mouth sideways

choppychopster · 30/04/2009 12:34

If I was eating it as a sandwich or with soup, then it would last me 2 or 3 meals -although agree with JustCallMeGoat about it going stale. However I could pick at it all afternoon and eat it in one go.

seeker · 30/04/2009 12:36

It depends a bit on how you said it would last you 3 meals - my otherwise lovely MIL is always saying "Oh, that will do me for the week/I only want a tiny scrap/goodness what a big portion/I eat like a bird/I'll never manage all that/oooh I've eaten so much/no more for me, I've got such a tiny appetite/oh no I won't have any more, I'll feel bloated......" Makes me want to stab her!

OrmIrian · 30/04/2009 12:37

I think you sound a little irritating TBH

TrillianAstra · 30/04/2009 12:38

How thick is it? Are we talking a 8cm circle like a full-on french stick? (in wich case I could do 2 or 3 sandwiches) Or a 5 cm thin one? (whih would be 1 or 2 for me)

If the size of sandwich you had felt right to you then you are obviously not 'starving yourself', so ignore your sister. Is she jealous because you are thinner? Or does she not want you losing weight for some reason?

JustCallMeGoat · 30/04/2009 12:39

lol @ seeker

my aunt once said 'oh no i won't eat i have just had a grape' my sisters and i still kill ourselves about that.

MrsMcCluskey · 30/04/2009 12:39

A third would do me fine

Biscuits4Cheese · 30/04/2009 12:40

So, pretty much what the OP wants is confirmation from a bunch of sprites on the interweb that yes, her sister is a disgusting, greedy pig. Have I read it right?
Anyway, yes, your sister is a disgusting, greedy pig. Better now?

roulade · 30/04/2009 12:42

ooh i love meatball marinaras!!!!

ThePellyandMe · 30/04/2009 12:48

YABU
Those frenchsticks are all fresh air anyway.

I could eat half in one go, possibly more depending on how hungry I was.

I definitely wouldn't think anyone was greedy for eating a whole one. Now if she said she was eating 6 choccie bars with it...

seeker · 30/04/2009 12:50

JCMG - are you sure your aunt isn't my MIL? Even if MIL didn't say that, I'm going to tell everyone she did - she would have done if she's thought of it!

solidgoldSneezeLikeApig · 30/04/2009 12:52

Why are you bothered? Eat what you want of your bread, and let your sister eat whatever she wants. It;s OK to eat as much as you want, even if you do have a fanjo.

Juwesm · 30/04/2009 12:52

Meatball sub......mmmmmmmm.

I would probably make a sandwich out of half, and eat that. Then, because it was so tasty, I would immediately eat the other half

But I am a disgusting, greedy pig!

Lizzylou · 30/04/2009 12:55

I have never had a meatball sub, was pg when a subway opened up near my old workplace and the smell used to make me heave. Put me off a bit, but they are obviously highly recommended. Do they have cheese on too?
