To think that John Barrowman will do anything for money?

He used to be a big thing for me. First came across him in Doctor Who, loved his outrageous late-night interviews and cheeky camp, even managed to get to see him singing his cabaret show in London.

And this last year, he's never off the screen, and it's virtually all crap telly! This show of his is the pits - horrible meld of Jim'll Fix It and Stars in Their Eyes. I thought we got rid of this sort of shite tv years ago. And now there's John, in his shiny suit, making me cringe and think longingly of the days when he was 'just' a really talented musicals star and seemed to have a modicum of taste and career judgement.

He's just so ... naff.

yeuch from me too- I have never liked him though!

mrsmaidamess · 25/04/2009 19:33

I've never been able to see what all the fuss was about.

HecatesTwopenceworth · 25/04/2009 19:35

Apparently the woman off our local radio station is going on some show of his to do a strictly come dancing thing.

Lizzylou · 25/04/2009 19:37

D'you think he would do anything for money?

MrsMattie · 25/04/2009 19:37

He's so annoying.

spudmasher · 25/04/2009 19:37

I started a thread exactly this time last week on exactly this subject. No one responded. Thank goodness I have found some like minded people.

MamaHobgoblin · 25/04/2009 19:39

Well, he's cute (in a plastic way - ever increasingly, since it's obvious he's having work done now) and he did have this very subversive camp thing back when he came to wider attention, but he seems to have downplayed it to become all things to all men, and it doesn't work. And he's just doing horrible, naff tv these days and it makes me sad.

He'll do anything for exposure, and that's always been the case. It's just recently he's the new-face-of-light-entretainment, so other people have been very, very willing to give the love the exposure.

He's making hay while the sun shines, on the understanding that it won't last forever.

I pissed myself laughing at the title sequence to his Jim'll Fixity thing. Sitting on a crescent moon scattering stardust, pmsl.

MamaHobgoblin · 25/04/2009 19:41

Sorry, Spudmasher, must've missed that!

It's the scottish/ american accent swapping thing he does which really gets me wound up.

MamaHobgoblin · 25/04/2009 19:42

KayHarker, I think I've actually heard him say in an interview that he's making money while he can, while he still has his looks, etc. And he does have expensive car repayments to make! Still...

This show hits new depths, I think.

My goodness it is rubbish....yet...I....am...still....watching.......the kids love it. They are discussing how much he looks like Captain Jack without making the link...snort.

BigBellasBeerBelly · 25/04/2009 19:46

I think he must be the hardest working man in TV and so really think his success is hard earned, and good luck to him.

Having said that I only saw him in dr who and torchwood, I don't really watch all the other things mentioned

nickytwotimes · 25/04/2009 19:53

Yanbu.
He has always bugged the hell out of me.
His acting is so hammy. And the whole "I'm Scottish" crap.

MamaHobgoblin · 25/04/2009 19:54

spudmasher - lol! That's rather sweet of them!

He does work hard, all credit to him - but why does he have to choose such cheap, shite vehicles for his talents?

Oh, I'm going to do DS's bathtime and stop stropping about it!

Can't stand him he ruined my Saturday morning telly many moons ago.

expatinscotland · 25/04/2009 19:55

I would do anything for money and don't blame the likes of John Barrowman for doing so himself.

In fact, I'm rather .

spudmasher · 25/04/2009 19:56

Oh this song....cheeeeeeessssyyyyy!!!!! Now they are saying what a good singer he is......I need to educate my children.

bran · 25/04/2009 19:58

He's been in show business for a fairly long time and I expect he's just used to taking every offer that comes along because you never know when the phone will stop ringing. I don't watch they type of rubbish entertainment that he usually pitches up on (except Dr Who obviously) so I'm not really that bothered how much he does.

He was marvellous in panto. And he's clearly not a snob.

And he's absolutely lovely and supportive to young gay people who write to him.

I luff him, I do.

KayHarkerInTheBackOfTheQuattro · 25/04/2009 20:01

PMSL, Saltire.

expatinscotland · 25/04/2009 20:04

Ah, Salty! That's below the belt!

spudmasher · 25/04/2009 20:07

Oh funny everyone!!!! THis was the thread I wanted last week. Where were you all www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=_chat&threadid=740962-John-Barrowman#15132266

Morloth · 25/04/2009 20:08

He really is very nice to look at - not my taste personality wise, but very nice to look at indeed. Kind of like Tom Cruise thinks he looks.
