I have stopped smoking?

Had my last fag at midnight, not finding it too bad but I do want to shout at anyone who looks at/speaks to me.

If I lived alone this would be sooooooo much easier

Yabu

everGreensleeves · 15/04/2009 19:28

yanbu, opbviously - it's one of the hardest things you can do and it does affect your mood.

You're doing really well though, the early days are the worst!

Oh. Am I?

pavlovthepregnantcat · 15/04/2009 19:29

Good for you! Just do it, you will feel loads better!

FWIW, I feel just like that too today, for some reason, and i have not just given up smoking!

lowenergylightbulb · 15/04/2009 19:30

Sorry that was to scienceteacher!!

Evergreen - I love you!!!

OP posts:
LadyOfWaffle · 15/04/2009 19:30

well done you, rip away! Better than smoking

everGreensleeves · 15/04/2009 19:31

ignore the misery guts brigade, some people just have an instant "bulldog-licking-piss-off-a-nettle" response to anyone even mentioning smoking

think of the extra cash too...

poopscoop · 15/04/2009 19:31

YANBU - anyone who manages to gho 24 hours without said fag, should certainly be given the honour of ripping anyones head off

aGalChangedHerName · 15/04/2009 19:31

You are so not BU!!

Well done you. Ignore anyone who says YABU

lowenergylightbulb · 15/04/2009 19:33

It's my husband who is bearing the brunt of it. I can't stop being the man with the sarcastic tone of voice - I'm doing my own head in!!!

I'm taking the fags a day at a time, and I'm having no booze for a few weeks to.

And I've been running (well walking quite fast/stumbling)

OP posts:
WinkyWinkola · 15/04/2009 19:33

Well done on your first fag free day. You've done really really well. Keep it up. You're much stronger than you think.

And anything is better than smoking! I used to smoke 20+ a day before DCs. I loved it but I love not smoking now.

lowenergylightbulb · 15/04/2009 19:40

Thank you everyone. I feel a bit less like a raging bull.

OP posts:
aGalChangedHerName · 15/04/2009 19:42

Keep going with it!! Gave up about 14 years ago and it was rough. I loved my fags sooooo much so it is a mare.

You are entitled to be ripping heads off IMO.

drlove8alltheeastereggs · 15/04/2009 19:57

well done for your first fag free day!

goneallmushy · 15/04/2009 19:58

yanbu my dp n me gave up smoking 10 wks ago n we were ripping each others heads off bout the slightest thing in fact we still r but cravings r not so bad now but stick with it, well worth it

ChippingIn · 16/04/2009 00:04

lowenergylightbulb... well done you

I have never smoked but have been with smokers who quit... one of them I would have smoked FOR by the end of the first week, he was a right fucking nightmare - but I smiled and went with him to get whatever craving was kicking in that night - it's what you do. I was only pissed off with him when a few months later he started smoking again and I felt it had all been in vain!!

Giving up smoking and drinking together? Sounds mad to me but I know some people (AA for instance) say it's the only way to do it, give up all vices. For me, I'd rather not give up any .

You're doing fine, rip a few heads off, it will all be a distant memory soon and you can be a narky ex smoker

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/04/2009 00:10

Are you using gum or patches, or going completely cold turkey?

I think I would have murdered my DH if I hadn't had gum to help. And when he gave up I think he would have murdered me without patches.

It is so hard. Well done you.

lowenergylightbulb · 16/04/2009 08:50

32 hours and 48 minutes fag free

Feel less narky today, however my bank have really cocked up and I'm about to phone them - I almost feel sorry for them!!!!!

Last night was tough, I couldn't sleep properly and felt a bit jittery at times.

Moomin, I'm going cold turkey. I've read that days 1 to 3 are the most difficult...

I am not going back - repeats to self

OP posts:
Kayzr · 16/04/2009 08:53

After the 3rd day it gets better. I did it cold turkey when we decided to ttc DS1.

Gorionine · 16/04/2009 08:56

I know someone who has just stoped smocking. Everyday thy put the money they would have spent on cic=garettes in a box. In just under 2 months over £300.- saved! That should make your mood better!

I did it coldturkey as well when I found out I was expecting DD1. the cravings were really bad the first few days but once it got better, they never came back.

Well done for doing it! that is one thing you will never regret having done!

Jaquelinehyde · 16/04/2009 09:00

Well done I've been free of ciggies for 3
yrs 3 months now.

Best thing I have ever done.Good luck

ourlot · 16/04/2009 09:01

Well done! Glory in your grumpiness, enjoy it and shout at everyone - telling them why, they'll more likely forgive you and you'll be able to shout louder.
The first day is the hardest, then the first 3 days, then the first week, then month, but a year becomes easy! One day at a time though.
You CAN do it, good luck!!

lowenergylightbulb · 16/04/2009 09:08

Ahhh, thanks everyone!! I phoned the bank just now and didn't even get annoyed!!!

Is it my imagination or has my sense of smell improved after just 1 day?

I put my £2.36 in a jar yesterday - but I had to spend it this morning (after my run!!) on orange juice and washing up liquid.... I'm avoiding tea - a trigger drink and doing loads of cleaning to distract myself.

OP posts:
aGalChangedHerName · 16/04/2009 10:07

I had to change my whole routine. No coffee first thing, only orange juice. No wine with dinner etc. I can have them now but it took at least 6+ months before i could go back to doing that.

I am so glad i stuck with it and you will be too honestly!!!
