Thats the nature of FB I'm afraid and yes its crap and rude but there seem to be different rules on FB than in RL.

My big bug bear is when I am chatting with someone on FB live and they just log off without saying goodbye or giving any indication that they have to go. That is the equivalent of hanging up on someone on the phone or walking away mid conversation in my book, but somehow acceptable on FB

tessofthedurbervilles · 08/03/2009 10:32

Yes for some reason manners go out of the window on fb. I mean you wouldn't just walk off mid conversation with someone in rl would you?

scrooged · 08/03/2009 10:42

Yes, I agree. Where's slur?????

onthepier · 08/03/2009 16:36

I've been dropped by a Facebook friend only this week!

To be honest I added her a few months ago as she came up on my "People you may know" list. We were good friends about 5 years ago when our children were young, but lost contact.

Although she accepted me on her list, she didn't respond to my message asking how she + the family were, + now I find she's deleted me!

OK we weren't really close friends, but it does make you wonder when people do that, especially as you haven't seen/spoken to them so you couldn't have done anything wrong!!

VerityClinch · 08/03/2009 17:04

I addded a "friend" from my teenage years (on my "people you may know") who - rather than just ignore the request - felt the need to email me telling me exactly why he was not accepting me.

Knocked me for six!

Janos · 08/03/2009 17:22

FB is a nightmare for cauusing all sorts of stresses/ offence etc.

I would say that if you are easily upset or offended not to use it. That's not having a pop at all, but it can be a bit much if you are feeling at all sensitive/upset/down or whatever.

Janos · 08/03/2009 17:23

Also, as you will have noticed from MN people are often a lot blunter/ruder online than they would be face to face/IRL!

fattiemumma · 08/03/2009 17:24

oh no. that is a bit off. is this all connected to yesterday?? still not quite sure what happened there,

noonki · 08/03/2009 17:27

MY DH closed down his FB account as he never used it and was fed up with people moaning that he was ignoring them.

He didn't even think of telling the few people he had on as fb friends as he assumed they wouldnt notice/care. He's hoping now he didn't upset anyone!

Doodle2U · 08/03/2009 17:28

Verity - what reasons did he give in his email?

S1ur · 08/03/2009 18:50

Hello scrooged

Erm I don't 'do' FB but pretty sure I haven't dropped anyone although I did recently change my lanuage preference to Italian so I can't be sure what I am pressing anymore. (BUT I am really concerned that my sisters boyfriend is impegnato my sister ....

VerityClinch · 08/03/2009 18:57

Ha, goes back YEARS. We were a group friends that all hung out together, his friend had a huge crush on me (seriously huge, used to write me letters every day), I snogged him in front of that friend, everyone got upset (this is a huge understatement) - just very silly, typical teenage stuff, but apparently he still thinks about it, and was deeply distressed by the whole thing, found it all very upsetting, said "you were trouble then, and for all I know, you're still trouble now and for that reason I don't think I should add you as a friend".

Funnily enough, he is 'friends' with the guy who had a crush on me, and I am friends with the crush guy too - we speak quite often. The two of us got over it, hard to see why he couldn't. We were SIXTEEN YEARS OLD FFS.

Anyway, am not bitter

BitOfFun · 08/03/2009 19:10

You hussy!

Bizarre indeed...

Maybe you should have that as your status message? Trouble then, and trouble now

scrooged · 08/03/2009 19:26

S1ur · 08/03/2009 19:31

Maybe they've deregistered completely?

I did that (as my RL name although am still on there occasionally as a mouse ), around the time of the FB owns your life news scandal - I just figured I had enough drains on my time and didn't need one more.

Then it occurred to me that loads of people would think I suddenly hated them.

ScottishMummy · 08/03/2009 20:57

cyber-friends,an oxymoron surely.can not be "friends" if sole interaction is internet

scrooged · 08/03/2009 21:25

I can't find you slur. You've vanished from cyberspace

cornsilk · 08/03/2009 21:28
