DM invited us (me and 3DC's)to lunch.

Before lunch DS2 goes into garden to play, and comes back in saying it's very cold and his hands are cold. DM says "yes, you really need gloves for playing outside today"

After lunch DM sugests to DC's they may like to go to the park. Of course they want to. I say it's too cold to go to the park, and there is no way I'm going out. DM assures me it's really "not that cold".

So they set off - while I wait for them to return. After about 15 mins they come home; DS2 is crying becuase his hands hurt. DM looks at me (with that look only she has ARGGG!) and says "Mummy can we bring gloves next time we go to Granny's please"

Well, actually no we can't because becuase if I took evrey item for every evenuality with us every time we went out, we weould need to tow a caravan behind us.

ARGGGGG!!!

ermm sorry but I do think gloves are something that can easily be taken, especially at this time of year when it's almost always cold.

piscesmoon · 03/01/2009 16:42

It was definitely gloves weather here first thing this morning-it had only got to minus 2 degrees by 10am.

dizzydixies · 03/01/2009 16:42

so she suggests he needs gloves for playing in the garden but then takes them off to the park?

all a bit strange really BUT then my car is full of hats/random gloves/coats and blankets so I suppose there are some advantages to living in the north of Scotland!

senatorvass · 03/01/2009 16:43

it is very cold though. I am not leaving home without gloves for my DS. That and hat in this weather is as standard as a coat isnt it?

thebrain · 03/01/2009 16:43

I have to say mine don't go anywhere without gloves at this time of year. It's just a given.

LaDiDaDi · 03/01/2009 16:44

Oh, my mother gives me looks like that too.

I was really riled yesterday as I feel her constant implication is that my parents would be/are better parents to dd than dp and me are. Wanted to shout/slap yesterday and that really is't like me.

Stay calm, breathe and ignore. Maybe you should've taken gloves butyou are not unreasonable to want to scream.

Tiramissu · 03/01/2009 16:46

Tbh gloves aside,
if i had lovely lunch cooked by someone else, plus my children taken to the park and me enjoying 20 min alone i would be soooo happy . Maybe i m a lazy cow...

naturalbornmum · 03/01/2009 16:46

It is only common sense - when it is v.c old - DC need gloves. Why don't you keep gloves, hats and scarves by your front door and grab them on way out - not hard really!

piscesmoon · 03/01/2009 16:47

I am always amazed by people not dressing for the weather. I have know snowy days at school where the whole school is out at break having fun and some DCs are in tears because they have no gloves!! If you are out for the day in winter it makes sense to have thick coat, hat and gloves-the weather doesn't matter if you are dressed appropriately.

LynetteScavo · 03/01/2009 16:54

Yes golves were needed today when going outside - but we only poped round for lunch (we live 2 mins drive away)not for a wander around the neighbourhood.

"Put on your scoks DS2 yest you DO need socks today - yes you do need a jumper Granny might not have the heating very high - no DD you can NOT wear crocs in this weather - DS1 I've already said BRING A COAT - no you can't take your nintdo - yes granny would like to see the pcitur you drew this morning- I siad not to wear crocs please let me help you with your shoes - NO HITTING!!!- into the car and just wait if your ready - where has Daddy put the keys - OK , come back in and help up look for the keys DS2 - ofcourse they are not the duplo box - are they no, see even Daddy leaves them in his coat somethimes - yes Granny will think we've got lost - into the car - NO PUSHING!!! Just sit down please, I said just sit down. Sit down or I'm going to get annoyed. Thankyou."

I didn't want tehm to go out and DM knew they didn't have gloves before she ofered to take them - next time I will just put my foot down and say no one is going unless they have jumpers, coats, gloes and a hat, which is what was needed today.

Just stick a pair of socks on his hand (granny's if you have to) - sorted

Tinker · 03/01/2009 16:59

I think you knwo you're being a tad unreasonable really

ShinyPinkShoes · 03/01/2009 17:00

Gloves needed now more than any other time of the year IMO

Don't most people leave them in their coat pockets - I know I do.

We have a set of gloves for all of us in my car, (just in case) and usually a pair of gloves each for the babies in the changing bag.

sunnygirl1412 · 03/01/2009 19:31

It doesn't seem to matter how many pairs of gloves we buy, the ds's can never find a pair when they need them. I wish I knew what they did with them - I have a basket in the hall where all gloves are supposed to live - in theory they put them in there when they come in, and know that's where to look when they need a pair.

Want to guess who's the only person who ever actually puts gloves in the basket? Yes, me!

And no, I don't think Lynette was being unreasonable - you can't think of everything when you are getting ready to go out, and if you think you are just going for lunch, you might well not think of needing lots of outdoors stuff.

Just a thought - could you invest in three pairs of cheapie gloves from primark and leave them at your mum's for next time?

hercules1 · 03/01/2009 19:34

yabu

nappyaddict · 03/01/2009 19:37

YABU gloves are something you will obviously need to wear on a cold day same as a hat and scarf. Same as you would take sun tan lotion and a sun hat in the summer.

cocolepew · 03/01/2009 19:40

Your DM knew they didn't have gloves, said "yes you need gloves to play in the garden", but still took them to the park?

She's BU not you.

Siriusmewisathreadkillertoo · 03/01/2009 19:43

I don't think this is really about gloves or lack of with regards to the OP. I think its DM saying it's too cold to be in the garden without gloves, then suggesting a walk to the park then coming home and reminding mummy that gloves were needed IYSWIM.

pamelat · 03/01/2009 19:43

She probably just felt bad because she knew that there were no gloves and yet had the park idea so tried to shift the guilt to you. Dont worry about it.

OrmIrian · 03/01/2009 19:45

Even if you were driving somewhere in this weather I'd have taken gloves. It was bloody gorgeous here today - bright blue sky and sunshine, why not go out? Yes it was cold but gloves, hat etc deal with that.

She was BU if she was just trying to wind you up, but so were you really.
