to take down my Christmas tree?

It's driving me nuts.

Reasons to take it down:

Our house is tiny and it is taking up space that I need for other stuff.

DS, who is one, keeps pulling the decorations off and trying to eat them.

Due to DS's Christmas decoration appitite we have had to barricade the tree in with DH's guitar equiptment which is taking up even more room in our stupidly small living room.

I know I am the one who will have to pack away all the decorations and I just want to get the job out of the way.

Reason's not to take it down:

It's too early.
It's kind of mean.
DH is from another culture and has not had his Christmas day yet. Although he has said he doesn't care what I do with the tree.

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 29/12/2008 10:05

Sorry for appaling post.

Mine went down yesterday - my flat looks all shiney and new.

cocolepew · 29/12/2008 10:06

I took mine dobne yesterday, it had been up for weeks and today is DD's birthday so I usually just take the cards and decorations down. But it was driving me nuts.

If your DH doesn't care take it down.

OrmIrian · 29/12/2008 10:12

I don't understand this really. Our tree only went up on 20th. Haven't had time to get fed up with it yet. I prefer to have it put up later and come down later. Christmas really ends after New Year - in fact 12th Night is my DS#1's birthday and he likes the tree up for that. Why does everyone seem to put their tree up at the start of Dec these days?

But yes, take it down it it's giving more grief than pleasure.

chloemegjess · 29/12/2008 10:14

Mine is down already, but it is my DDs birthday today!

Alliwantisaroomsomewhere · 29/12/2008 10:28

i am tempted too!

already feel like getting back into the swing of things after a week of excess. [bloated emoticon - one with a hangover]

Guitargirl · 29/12/2008 10:28

Mine is coming down today. Bored with it now. It's been up since December 4th...

I get rid of all things Xmassy on either the evening of the 25th, or Boxing day at the latest.

I hate having cards and trees messy up my house.

Bah Humbug! ;)

SugarBird · 29/12/2008 10:50

Ours went up on the 22nd so we're still at the 'aren't the lights pretty?' stage! But if you're sick of it, it's got to go - and as you have to do the work, yanbu to take it down, especially as your DP doesn't mind... Not mean at all.

StefkaSnowAngel · 29/12/2008 10:50

It didn't go up particularly early, but I have still had enough of it. Think I might take it down tonight once DS is in bed. I am guessing that trying to do it while he is still up will be a nightmare!

Go on, take it down.

You have the Macdog's blessing

XmasPud · 29/12/2008 10:53

Oooh sorely tempted now I hear that others have taken it down. I hate the damn thing. Ours is the most droopy, misshapen thing and sick of the needles everywhere.
DH likes it up for New Year but not sure I can stand it that long..

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 29/12/2008 10:57

DP wanted ours up for New Years Eve but for one we don't really celebrate NYE just stay in with a take away and a film and secondly i like to start the NY on Jan 1st with a nice tidy/fresh house so the decs came down.

aGalChangedHerName · 29/12/2008 10:57

Mine came down yesterday. Loads of room for the dd's new toys now

MrsMagooo · 29/12/2008 11:04

YANBU take it down!!

Took mine down day after Boxing Day

piximon · 29/12/2008 11:42

We took ours down last night. Dts birthday tomorrow so don't want it looking xmassy.

compo · 29/12/2008 11:47

we're taking ours down Friday but that's only cos dh will be around to put it back in the loft!!
I've taken all the cards and tinsel down today

Zahrah · 29/12/2008 11:47

YANBU - Take it down.

ThatAngelsGotATreeUpHerArse · 29/12/2008 11:50

It's your choice Stefka - I'd feel weird taking it down before 12th night though... drummed into me by DM - I just can't do it before Jan 6th

hippipotami · 29/12/2008 11:50

Our tree always goes up around the 20th or thereabouts, and always comes down on New Years Eve.
I really don't like waking up in the New Year with last years tree still up. I usually buy a nice bunch of flowers to put in the living room and it is our way of starting the new year all fresh adn new

debzmb62 · 29/12/2008 12:51

i always make sure mnes down before dd birthday on the 3rd jan although i,d willng take it down boxing day

NAB3hundredChristmaslights · 29/12/2008 12:54

On the basis on DC is only 1 I would say take it down if life would be easier.

DH has just taken our cards and hanging decs down but we will leave the tree up for a bit longer as our DCs are older.

BCNS · 29/12/2008 13:15

if you want it down .. take it down.

we put qres up the weekend before xmas and it is down before new years eve!

BouncingTinsel · 29/12/2008 13:25

YABU - don't you realise if you take you Christmas tree down too early, the Earth will stop spinning on its axis and they'll be a plague o' locusts o'er the land?

Honestly, what are you asking us for, if you want to take it down, do it!! If your DH is not that bothered about it then no need to keep it up for his sake, I'm sure he'll live with the disappointment
