aibu? have bought lovely wooden advent calender and put in chox for my girls - inlaws just sent round two choc advent calenders with thir names written in choc, am annoyed because:

  1. i chose which calender we would have because thats what i wanted, we have a small house and i try and avoid clutter such as 3 advent calenders
  2. they have used the wrong name for my one dd, her middle name, they do this a lot , quite old and forgetful.
they do this all the time just buying stuff and sending it round and then i have to use it as dh looks for it. am expecting mad xmas tree next i think!aibu?

Stealthsquiggle - I'm in the chocolate tasting club thingy. Can't wait for my Xmas chocs this year (sorry for thread hijack)

fizzbuzz · 27/11/2008 13:50

I am absoutely gutted for those gp's.

I feel really really angry for them too. What happened to goodwill, and the Christmas spirit?

Isn't Christmas about giving, emotionally as well as presents?

prettybutterfly · 27/11/2008 13:53

Fizzbuzz, you could start an aibu thread.

AIBU to be 'gutted' for some total strangers who have given a gift to their DIL who secretly dislikes it?

Thomcat · 27/11/2008 13:53

Prettybutterfly - I can get worked up by what I like really, can't I ???? And anyway, I wouldn't say I was terribly 'worked up', just think the OP is ridiculous to be annoyed, alright??!!

stealthsquiggle · 27/11/2008 13:54

, Iklboo

Iklboo · 27/11/2008 13:54

Sorry anniversary pressie from DH

fizzbuzz · 27/11/2008 13:58

Well, I am just imagining what I woud feel if my mum had sent something like this, and my dp was iffey about it.

If old as she was, she had gone to this trouble and imagined her dc's were going to enjoy this, and got pleasure from it. Then somebody behaved like op, I would be pissed off.

I think it's called empathy........

girlandboy · 27/11/2008 13:58

YAB oh so U!!!!

Please just make the most of your dc's having thoughtful gp's.

My dad has just been diagnosed with dementia, and it won't be long before he totally forgets my dc's names forever.

mytetherisending · 27/11/2008 13:59

YABU its a kind thought. Its xmas after all, so who cares about how much choc and tatt! It will be gone after xmas day!
ROFL as we got dd a wooden one and put choc in alternating with yoghurt raisins. On the choc days she was very disappointed

prettybutterfly · 27/11/2008 14:02

Thomcat, but you think it's ok to tell the OP not to get worked up? When, in fact, she didn't get very worked up? Interesting.

Fizzbuzz, so far the OP hasn't 'behaved' like anything. She has had a secret thought, which she suspects might be a bit unreasonable, and she has asked the good people of MN for their help in putting things in perspective. I'm sure she's regretting it.

kslatts · 27/11/2008 14:08

I think YABU.

Thomcat · 27/11/2008 14:12

No PrettyButterfly, the OP asked aibu? I think she's being ridiculous and told her so. You then told me to not get worked up and I said I didn't think I was terribly worked up. Not at all interesting, pretty boring really and pointless. Now can I get on with having an opinion and saying what I like, how I like without you feeling the need to jump all over me please, I have no desire to engage in bickering with you over this or anything else.

slayerette · 27/11/2008 16:27

The OP has disappeared anyway so probably doesn't give two hoots about what we think about the Great Advent Calendar Debate.

As a direct result of this thread I went and bought some more advent calendars - including a chocolate one for me (why should DS have all the fun?) - just to clutter up my house even more.

They were half price at the garden centre already - the credit crunch gets everywhere!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/11/2008 17:36

YABU about GP buying calanders for your children - my friend wishes her children had grandparents

YANBU about their name -yes GP should get it right

either give the calenders to your children, or empty chocs out and share with all

agree calaenders should eb christmassy - i get choc ones for my charges, but with robins and father christmas on them

mb also gets them calenders

mumeeee · 28/11/2008 23:32

YABU. They were just trying to be nice to your DD's and two chocolate advent calendars won't take up much room.

ladymariner · 28/11/2008 23:36

I'm with you, Thomcat, the op was being totally bloody unreasonable!! How petty can one person get, no wonder she's disappeared. Shame on her!
Poor gp's.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/11/2008 12:37

guess honeysocks didnt like our replies

my BF would have all the chocolate in the world given by her parents IF they were alive
