aibu? have bought lovely wooden advent calender and put in chox for my girls - inlaws just sent round two choc advent calenders with thir names written in choc, am annoyed because:

  1. i chose which calender we would have because thats what i wanted, we have a small house and i try and avoid clutter such as 3 advent calenders
  2. they have used the wrong name for my one dd, her middle name, they do this a lot , quite old and forgetful.
they do this all the time just buying stuff and sending it round and then i have to use it as dh looks for it. am expecting mad xmas tree next i think!aibu?

yabu.i think its lovely of your dc to think of their grandchildren.its christmas!(well its not yet-its november).and its for the children.

we used to end up with 2 each-pil would get dc one each and my mum would get them one each.both sets of grandparents loved chosing advent calenders for my dc and i think thats lovely.

jeee · 27/11/2008 12:14

You want REALLY unreasonable...? One year the DC went to open their advent calender doors, only to find all the chocolate had been taken. DH wanted chocolate and so had opened all the doors to eat it.

cheesesarnie · 27/11/2008 12:15

!!!!

mazzystartled · 27/11/2008 12:15

yabu, and ungrateful with it. i wish my kids had grandparents to do something like this for them. even if the name is spelt wrong, you can laugh about it. and its hardly mega clutter is it? i mean in the scheme of things?

bigbaubleeyes · 27/11/2008 12:18

yes but i can see how it would irritate you

CatIsSleepy · 27/11/2008 12:20

'they do this all the time just buying stuff and sending it round '

shame on them! the wretches...

MorrisZapp · 27/11/2008 12:53

YABU

And I'm gutted. I thought this was going to be a thread moaning about how it is difficult/ impossible to buy a non-chocolate advent calendar these days, and how advent calendars are becoming less christmassy!

I flew into a rage in woolworths (RIP) last year at the sight of the one with Kylie on it. Wtf does a picture of Kylie have to do with christmas?

I want to see: santa, snow, presents, glitter, carol singers, candles and robin red-breasts.

Which I do not think is unreasonable.

fizzbuzz · 27/11/2008 13:17

I think this is so sad.

Old and forgetful they maybe, but they still thought about their grandchildren. It's the thought that counts.

In fact I think it is really mean. I wish my mum was still alive to send my dd an advent calendar stuffed full of chocolate and with her name on it.

I hoe you don't spoil gp's Christmas with this

cheesesarnie · 27/11/2008 13:19

MorrisZapp-i agree!

carmenelectra · 27/11/2008 13:22

YABU
YEs there is lots of clutter, but thats what it is like at Christmas and a couple of calendars wont make much difference. Agree with whoever said put em in their bedroom

slayerette · 27/11/2008 13:31

I agree with fizzbuzz. How miserable to receive a gift in the way the OP has done. I feel really bad for the in-laws now. Just got a something through the post for DS from his granddad that might be an advent calendar - and I thought 'How lovely of him to think of DS and take the time to send something.'

What is wrong with the world that we all have to be so ungracious and selfish all the time? It's two advent calendars that are in your house for 24 days - clutter??? FFS.

Yes, YABU.

Iklboo · 27/11/2008 13:35

YABU - Ds is having 3 advent calendars - one from us, one from my folks and one from MIL.
He can have 1 after breakfast, 1 after playschool and one after tea

YABU.

My DC will have a Playmobil calendar from us (to share), and chocolate ones from SIL and from my parents - so a total of 5 in the house.

It wouldn't have been my choice, but they'll live. And the clutter is as nothing compared to the explosion-in-a-toy-factory aftermath of Christmas.

Thomcat · 27/11/2008 13:38

How dare they be so kind as to buy your kids an avent calender. What type of grandparents are these people? Unbelievable. The nerve of some people!

Thomcat · 27/11/2008 13:41

How can anyone see that this would be irritating?
WT flying F??!!
Has the world gone mad, seriously?
What's wrong with you?
It's a fucking advent calender.
It's from their grandparents.
Oh get a grip people for crying out loud!
Kind grandparents buying hteir grandkids an avent calender. How is that ever annoying????
Sweet jesus!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 27/11/2008 13:42

Bah humbug..... How ungrateful!!

stealthsquiggle · 27/11/2008 13:45

I am just that no-one ever gives me one (one of the Hotel Chocolat ones would be nice )

slayerette · 27/11/2008 13:45

I see the OP has disappeared...

francagoestohollywood · 27/11/2008 13:45

Yabu

Flynnie · 27/11/2008 13:45

Agree with Thomcat.
Will you be posting in a few weeks that they have disgustingly got the dc a christmas present?

Thomcat · 27/11/2008 13:46

Do you what, some idiot on another website said that bringing children with Down's syndrome into the world was immoral! That is something to get worked up by, not your kids being bought an advent calender by their grandparents!

prettybutterfly · 27/11/2008 13:46

I think 'the thread' is working itself into an anti-OP tizzy, for which there is really no need.

Yanbu to mind the wrong name thing ... if you can't remember your GC's name then write it bloody well down! That would annoy me too.

Yab a bit u to mind the advent calendars, but you aren't being some kind of James Bond villain, stroking a white cat and planning to put the olds in a shark tank with dynamite up their bums or something (ffs).

This board is designed to help us get life's niggles in perspective, no? It's good for that.

Yabu, but yanb horrible.

DunderMifflin · 27/11/2008 13:46

Rock on Thomcat!

prettybutterfly · 27/11/2008 13:48

Thomcat, surely YOU shouldn't be getting worked up by this either, when there are better things to get worked up by?
