I and two other CM's took 13 Children to a woodland play trail today.

The toddler Children found a muddy puddle and were jumping in it (and sitting in it )

A Father and son, of about 8 walked past, I didn't hear what the boy said but the Father, looked back at the toddlers and said 'well they are to young to know how to behave themselves'

WTF, are children not suppose to jump in puddles?

(Good job, he didn't see the older ones 5 minutes later, they found a even bigger and muddier puddle )

I pay good money so that I have a CM who lets my child sit in puddles. It's a very important part of the summer holidays.

In fact, perhaps it should be illegal not to sit in a puddle during the summer holidays.

The son was probably asking if he could do it too.

They were all dressed in waterproofs, (had to strip the lots of them when we got back to the car )

Even their wellies are in the washing machine

My son was taken paddling in a stream a couple of weeks ago. he told me today how funny it was finding a "really deep bit" so the water went over the top of his wellies. Your thread has just reminded me to check his wellies have finally dried out!

I was thinking of Linda whatsername the comedian who recommended all children should spend part of their summer holiday sitting on a wall counting cars.

The son might have been saying they were very naughty or something. Some 8 year olds love rules and will point out children they think are breaking them iwth quite a bit of self righteousness. DS2 (6) was desperate to introduce some house rules to pin up on the wall 'just like school'. I'm always having to tell him that kids doing x, y and z is perfectly OK and none of his business.

DS has been at an outward bound type holiday camp this week.

At this moment in time, the white I know I know tshirts he has been wearing are in a 95 degree wash.

Mud and puddles and muck are part and parcel of childhood.

What if the son had insisted on wearing his best clothes and then asked if he could jump in the puddles, too? Or if he was due to meet his nan soon and the dad was embarrassed in case his boy turned up covered in mud, so the Dad just tried to think of something to say to put the lad off jumping in mud puddle, too? I think OP is getting an unnecessary rise out of a non-event.

And I wasn't getting a rise, was just astounded that he thought it was bad behaviour!

(Everybody was in waterproofs , its rained here a lot, but no way were we staying in again today, there are only so many dens you can build in the playroom )

I don't think it is legal for a toddler to go past a puddle, or even the treat or memory of a puddle without jumping in.
frankly it is also one of the perks of motherhood

YABU. The man was just explaining to his 8 yr old that toddlers were in the mud because they were little and that's what little ones do.

Several years ago when i was in my mid 30's i was told by some prissy so and so that i was too old to jump in puddles I replied that while wellies were made to fit my feet i would continue to jump in puddles!!!!

we must continue puddle jumping for the growth of the wellie industry

when ds was small, my parents bought him an outfit called a Puddlejumper and it was excellent. It was an all-in-0ne made out of kagoul material and it had elasticated wrists and ankles and it was perfect for ds as he was/is a maniac champion puddle jumper

Whether he didnt want his child to jump in puddles or not, did not make my Mindees badly behaved!

And they don't grow out of it. Took ds and his friend (both aged 12)out for the day and we went walking. They went ahead, by the time we caught up with them they were down a ditch, daring each other to try and jump across it! I was about to screech ask them politely to come out but then I could hear them laughing, could see what a laugh they were having, could see it was only shallow and thought, what the hell, let them do it.
So glad I did. They got absolutely soaked, lathered in mud, had to come home in the car dressed only in their pants and had a total blast. That was last summer and they're still talking about it!!!
