Come on …. When will people wake up to the pollution these things cause!

Move out of your naice MC area OP, it's the only way.

I used to live in a big city and the woodsmoke in the posh areas was INSANE in the winter. It used to set off my asthma on foggy days when it all hangs round the street

My down at heel area with the same style of houses never had a whiff of it.

gffvvhhvvxs · 20/10/2026 09:38

I asked for a wood burner for my birthday as we’ve just moved house and there’s isn’t one in the new house. I can’t wait!!

Pootles34 · 20/10/2026 09:40

Meh. Love ours - although I must say we only use it a couple of times a week.

I've only got one car that we rarely use - I'm not starting a thread about my neighbours multiple cars.

Cupofteapleasemilkynottoomilkyonesugar · 20/10/2026 09:42

New regulations for wood burners mean any new ones have to meet environmental standards. So they are fine.

pulpJarvis · 20/10/2026 09:42

Everyone round where I live has one, and there's a pleasant smell in the air from them, they must be newish ones and be burning seasoned wood.

HelpMyBlackLabradorVotesReform · 20/10/2026 09:45

Love a woodburner. One of the most renewable forms of fuel there is.

Scrambledomelette · 20/10/2026 09:45

Here I am, rearranging the world to preserve my lung function after a genetic bad hand, and then here's a bunch of hygge twats who are jeopardising their, and their children's, respiratory and cardiovascular systems when they have perfectly functioning central heating. I guess you don't know what you've got till it goes up in smoke.

fluffythecat1 · 20/10/2026 09:47

We have an open fire, however only use seasoned wood and smoke-free coal.

Ultraalox · 20/10/2026 09:48

Ripped ours out when renovating as I actually researched how awful they are for health 😣

SquashPenguin · 20/10/2026 09:48

My partner is a fireman. Last winter he went to a house fire started by a wood burner that took out two terraced houses because the fire starter hadn’t had their chimneys swept properly. They look lovely and cosy but I’d never ever have one in my house.

Bogstandardname · 20/10/2026 09:48

Would never want to be without one. Gas and electricity prices off the scale, this is the only way I can keep one room warm.

FedUpCelery · 20/10/2026 09:52

It seems sensible to have one. It allows people to be more self sufficient for their heating needs.

We're being told there may be energy shortages this winter and also to stock up on none perishable food items. You can cook and keep warm with a wood burner.

Or at least not have to live on cold beans

Wheesht2 · 20/10/2026 09:52

I love ours, used to have an open fire but all the heat went up the chimney, now the room it lovely and toasty, we live in an old stone cottage and radiators alone just don’t warm it up enough.
The modern ones are not dangerous and we only burn dry wood.

ThePeppyOpalScroller · 20/10/2026 09:56

Had one in my last house. Loved it. You just can't get anywhere near the same level of heat from a radiator. I miss feeling the blast of hot air when I came in from the hallway. And I used to sit with a glass of wine, music on, just watching the flames.

Given the way cancer goes through my family like a dose of salts, there’s no way I’d have a wood burner.

Hyperion100 · 20/10/2026 10:00

Love ours. ClearSkies5 rated. Burn only kiln dried and 2 season logs.

We bought an air quality monitor for the lounge and when we're using the burner, theres barely any movement in air quality.

Its a whole other story when I'm cooking though. The air quality in my kitchen basically goes off the charts EVERY time cook anything!

WitchesCatWhisker · 20/10/2026 10:01

Love my wood burner! Interestingly I have a smart air purifier and when I run my burner it doesn’t register any pollution. What does send it crazy is using the toaster and gas stove.

clopertyclop · 20/10/2026 10:07

Had mine installed last year. 5 bed house and the woodburner heats the whole downstairs and rises to at least keep the chill off the next 2 floors. Free firewood too. I love it and it was the best gift to myself from my life insurance payout for cancer 🙂
it’s not just a fancy fad for us, it’s a financial one too as otherwise I’d be sitting here freezing because we can’t afford to put the heating on. I get the environmental thing but the reality is that the cost of gas and oil is only going to increase year after year (and that’s if there’s any available)

Ablondiebutagoody · 20/10/2026 10:07

Sounds cosy

UniquePinkSwan · 20/10/2026 10:09

I’d love a wood burner but I settled for a heat pump

AndAngela · 20/10/2026 10:09

Only time I like to use a wood burner is when I am in the woods in a cabin. Otherwise, no thanks.

Mableandable · 20/10/2026 10:09

I live in a Georgian house in a really pretty quaint area. I love nothing more than walking around looking at the pretty houses and smelling the log burners. I guess thats not very eco friendly though but it is so atmospheric especially at Christmas.

Couldn't agree more with this! I can't believe so many people have them. And in homes with children! It's terrible and I'm sure eventually people will look back and massively regret this.

I hate wood burners but love my heat pump. So cheap to run. Fantastic investment, particularly with current energy prices.
