Jamie’s 20 minute cross-contamination.

Just watched an episode of this where he frequently handled raw beef & then went on to dip his fingers in bowls of salt, pepper, open cupboards, the fridge, without washing his hands. I think he used the same chopping board to cut the cooked steak that he’d previously flopped the uncooked meat around on. He just about made it in 20 minutes by shaving off some time by not washing his hands. I’m not particularly fastidious but seems a bit unsanitary.

You can eat raw beef though without issue, so I’ve never seen it as the same as chicken for needing to worry about touching stuff.

DanaScullysLegoHair · Yesterday 22:34

He did the same with the salt and pepper after fingering the trout.

Busbygirl · Yesterday 22:35

I doubt it was one continuous take.
He probably washed his hands but it wasn’t shown. Tbh it would make pretty boring tv watching him wash his hands.

SerendipityCat · Yesterday 22:37

You do realise that this 20 minutes is just the edited highlights of probably several hours recording? Just because it didn't show it doesn't mean that he didn't wash his hands.

RagzRebooted · Yesterday 22:37

This is me in the kitchen! We must all have great immune systems, it's never caused a problem. I'm a bit more careful with chicken.

🤣🫣🤣 Call me childish but that comment made me laugh

CucumberCool · Yesterday 22:41

He did what to a trout?! 😂😂 That really tickled me

Only if you have cooked the outside unless you are a fan of E. coli. There are some raw cuts but they tend to be handled very carefully to reduce the risk but are still higher risk than a steak.

Unless that steak has been put back onto the board you had the raw meat on 😂

Haven't seen today's but on the other programmes in this series he has been seen washing his hands after handling chicken etc, and he's talked about it, so they do show it.

I don't think the actual filming of the cooking is done over several hours, he's said things wrong and has later referred to them eg in one he said something about " one of your 5 a week", later he referred to it and corrected himself, in another he couldn't find an ingredient he wanted out of his array of jars, so used something else. If it was hours of filming surely they'd edit those parts out.

Trouts quite like being tickled - genuinely!

I haven't watched this, but the premise is a con. I bought his 15 minute meals book. 1 hour, £20 of ingredients, every pan in the house and most of a recipe welded to the bottom of a pan. When you add in the £17 for the book, it was the most expensive flop of a meal. If anyone would like an almost pristine copy of the book... I will have washed my hands at every appropriate point, so I promise it isn't contaminated.

Notanotherrestructure · Yesterday 22:52

I said the same to ds whilst we were watching. It was pretty gross although I do like the look of the meals he rustles up.

Actually it was one continuous take, that's the premise of the new show.

Jamie Oliver shows 'unfiltered' side in his first-ever 'high stakes' TV show and this is when it's coming

We can't wait to see how this one goes..

As per my comment above, it is one continuous take, no edited highlights.

And when he does wipe or wash his chicken stained hands, it’s very desultorily done and you can track the cross-contamination onto the surfaces, tea towels and salad ingredients. Nice.

We love watching it and spotting the points where he’s being a skanky fucker.

And who washes up? I bet Jules tells him to get to fuck with his mess.

Jamie Oliver is a pure melt as they say these days He changes his persona to appeal to different markets, presented himself as one of the lads, the cheekie chappie, then he went all desperate housewives, then went to try to change American school meals and cried about it.
His 15 minute meals work by magic unless your oven turns itself on half an hour before and hob magically boils water immediately and all of your ingredients are already prepared.
His restaurants have consistently got bad reviews.
His irritating dancing and prancing around during his programmes.

The whole point is that it is a continuous take. I did his chicken and butter beans at the same time as he was doing it and it was into keep up. It was lovely though.

I find the times given for recipes very frustrating (from all chefs). So many are supposed to be quick recipes, but they don't account for the time to gather, weigh, peel, chop etc. so they actually take way longer.

Arlanymor · Yesterday 23:09

If it's one continuous recording, what happens if he has a mega fart? I imagine the camera will focus on a spatula (or insert kitchen utensil of preference) and they will edit the sound out. So just because it's a continuous recording it doesn't mean they will capture everything he does - including hand-washing, farting, etc.

DiNozzoComingBack · Yesterday 23:14

I haven't watched this episode yet but havr seen some. I find peoples paranoia quite strange. Lots of chefs and cooks use basic cloths to wipe and then just wash them daily. I saw someone on here once who changes the spoon she uses to stir things half way through in case any raw food is on the spoon later. Ridiculous.

His previous 20 minute meals were only 20 minutes if you had Michelin star levels of organisation and skill. These seem far more double. I do feel though that he doesn't appreciate the volume of food required to feed my family of ravenous teens and dh - which means more chopping, bigger pans etc! ! Which is strange considering the number of ravenous teens he must be regularly feeding! 🤣🤣

I think on saturday kitchen he said there was one episode they had to redo completely after he tucked it up.

That makes sense. There are only so many utensils to focus on if things are repeatedly going south!

I had a pretty much identical situation as you! Every pot and pan used, kitchen upside down and the end result had disintegrated in the pan 🫪 I thought my DH was hiding it then I realised the murky water….. well, that was supposed to be it FFS what a waste of time and effort so I just drank a bottle of wine to cheer me up
