Jamie’s 20 minute cross-contamination.

Just watched an episode of this where he frequently handled raw beef & then went on to dip his fingers in bowls of salt, pepper, open cupboards, the fridge, without washing his hands. I think he used the same chopping board to cut the cooked steak that he’d previously flopped the uncooked meat around on. He just about made it in 20 minutes by shaving off some time by not washing his hands. I’m not particularly fastidious but seems a bit unsanitary.

I find the times given for recipes very frustrating (from all chefs). So many are supposed to be quick recipes, but they don't account for the time to gather, weigh, peel, chop etc. so they actually take way longer.

I watched Gary Rhodes (rip) prepare a christmas meal once. It had loads of different aspects, and he kept saying after each stage , "it really is as simple as that"
Ignoring the fact that viewers havent got back stage minions to preheat the oven, find the right size pan or tray, weigh/measure/wash/cut /grate the ingredient and line them up in bowls....and then clear them all up afterwards!

I have learned a massive amount from him over the years. My food is much more sophisticated now.

And I find the 20 minute meals a good cook book, even though I agree, the meals take longer than 20 mins. Not by much though...

As per my comment above, it is one continuous take, no edited highlights.

It's one continuous take, but that doesnt mean it's the only take. He could do it half a dozen times and then they pick the best one.

He did the same with the salt and pepper after fingering the trout.

This is like a sentence from the game where everyone takes it in turns to say a few words to make a story 😆

I didnt laugh until I read your comment 😂

My 6 ft 2 Yorkshireman husband said something along the lines of 'Where's the rest of it?!' when we watched the show tonight. I don't think Jamie's recipes cater for big appetites! 😂

Oh the poor trout 🤣

I like Jamie and often watch his channel. This thread has me wondering how often I've seen him wash his hands 🤔 agree that a TV chefs time is very different to a normal person's time. The thing I will say about Jamie's recipes he always says to add in a Thames worth of water when in fact you only need like 300mls

Beef tartar is raw

One of the two dishes I was thinking of. Is higher risk than rare steak because it is both raw and minced and they are usually scrupulous about prep and sourcing the meat. Although food poisoning not unheard of from it and it isn’t recommended for the vulnerable. Unless they are particularly fond of E. coli or campylobacter.

i’m fairly laid back about most food hygiene but raw meat is one of the few things I’d mess about with.

That makes sense. There are only so many utensils to focus on if things are repeatedly going south!

Do you have a bowel problem? I can't remember the last time I did an audible (or indeed smellable) fart so I'm boggled as to why you think this might be an issue for Jamie (or indeed any other live-filmed event presumably).

Is that a euphemism?

It was a joke... thought that was fairly obvious.

He did what to a trout?! 😂😂 That really tickled me

Probably not as much as it tickled the trout

I could easily avoid farting for 20 mins. But when I do, they can be audible and /or smellable. Surely thats normal???
