What to serve at teen party?

partyteen · Yesterday 13:52

I was stupid enough to let my DD invite lots of friends (50!) to our house for the Halloween party.
What food to serve? DD says not to worry, as apparently ‘nobody eats at parties’. Just some crisps, dips, crackers and sweets were offered at the many parties she went to over last year.
Everyone is over 16yo, some alcohol will be allowed (not served by me, but teens will bring their own). I and DD’s dad will be home. Party is between 7-10:30pm.
Is there really no nibbles expected these days at parties?

Hey good luck! I put out sweets but they were mucked around with. The kids who I thought would bring cider brought vodka and other spirits. I did a bit of confiscation! They had a great time. It was a lot. Just sharing in case it’s helpful!

My DDs (17&18) are the same, they don't want much food at parties, although sometimes want pizzas ordered in. Their friends take some snacky food as a hostess gift.

I don’t think I ever went to a teenage party that included food. Do you honestly think they want to sit around having a party tea at that age?

arethereanyleftatall · Yesterday 13:58

Just bung her £50 to get what she wants and stay completely out of it.

Summerbay23 · Yesterday 13:58

I would still get some nibbles, big bags of crisps, pretzels etc. Probably not much else if that’s what she said.

50 underage teens in a house with alcohol and no food... hmm. Sounds like a great idea 🤨

redskyAtNigh · Yesterday 13:59

Go shopping with your 16 year old and let them choose what nibbles.
If they get hungry, they can order pizza.

ToadRage · Yesterday 14:05

Grab a selection of supermarket pizzas, some crisps and sweets.

WerewolfOfLoudon · Yesterday 14:06

They will have had their dinner before coming and your DD is, ime, correct. Let her buy the nibbles. Confiscate vodka. They can puke in their own houses.

Anyone still there at 10 might opt for pizza if they are planning to go home after the party. On a Saturday night with a party ending at 10:30pm, likely a few of them will be heading out.

I think, with a house full of 50 teens and alcohol, what food you serve is the least of your problems.

I'd be furious is my teen went to a party that I believed another adult was supervising and they were given alcohol when under age.

7-10:30 and you'll be there?
Social death for your DC!

MsWicked · Yesterday 14:36

Nibbles, for 50 teenagers bringing their own alcohol. Nibbles aren’t your issue here.

I agree with giving her £100 or so and letting her buy whatever crisps etc she wants plus soft drinks. If they want more than that they can order pizza or maccies with their own money! Confiscate spirits if you can. Ensure anything breakable put out of reach, be clear about any out of bounds areas and ensure there are plenty of bins/vomit bowls dotted around. Good luck!

Deadleaves77 · Yesterday 14:36

Personally Id do some supermarket pizzas and plenty of crisps/snacks

50 teens, alcohol and no food is a recipe for disaster. Yeah they won't want a full party buffet but Id make sure there was something available to soak up the alcohol

Tink3rbell30 · Yesterday 15:57

How does she have 50 friends?! And how big is your house? Will the Mumsnet shoes off rule be inforced? To answer the question definitely pizza.

MrsM2025 · Yesterday 16:29

I provided pizza sliced up / crisps for DD’s last teen party - her 16th - I did a live thread of it on Mumsnet - I provided some alcohol - cider / bud but they all same with spirits 🤦🏻‍♀️
Definitely NO marshmallows - the floors took dats to recover!
I think food is a good idea - to soak up alcohol - one party my DD went to they made spaghetti for a few people who needed something!
And 50??!! Are you insane?!

Freshrain · Yesterday 16:44

50 ?!?

Yeah, I agree with everyone else. What food you do, or do not buy in is not going to be the issue here.

GalaDinner · Yesterday 16:47

Fifty is crazy. Expect a hundred to turn up.

Chickadiddy · Yesterday 16:49

50 under age drinkers who don't want food?

Save your money for cleaning materials OP to mop up the inevitable...

You're a brave woman OP.
Wishing you well😂

Bjorkdidit · Yesterday 16:52

Likely hardly anyone will turn up before about 9, but however many do come, they probably won't be moving on at 10.30, unless there's a nearby club night.

Will they be in the house or do you have a garden bar area? How many toilets do you have?
