I don't know where else to put this but I'm at the end of my rope with this pain.
for 4 days now I've had excruciating pain. The pain is the left side of my vulva, radiating from my labia to deep inside but only on the left side. I've called 111, they told me to go to the pharmacy. They couldn't help. Eventually got OOO appointment and they ruled out a cyst or abscess. The pain is quite deep inside. I do have some swelling but it's too deep to be a cyst and pressing the area doesn't hurt at all. No UTI symptoms at all but I'm in agony. It feels like if you were to tie a bit of string around your finger and the blood flow stops. That's exactly what it feels like, almost like the blood flow is being stopped. Standing makes it worse. Baths don't help. I cannot keep still and I'm in utter agony. The pain goes from my actual left flap and then deeper into my vagina.

Anyone have any ideas? I've taken paracetamol, ibuprofen and codeine and nothing is touching the sides. Even breathing in makes it hurt. Doctors can't do anymore and I am at a loss on what to do. 😭

Surely they cannot leave women in pain like this and that's that? The pain at times is almost similar to giving birth down there and nothing is helping it. Please help, I'm in tears. Any advice or similar experiences?

Go to A&E if the pain is that bad. Don't faff about with pharmacies and 111.

ProfessorInkling · 11/10/2026 10:46

Agony and childbirth-like pain? A&E. Good luck.

SpandauBuffet · 11/10/2026 10:49

See I was thinking A&E but I can't sit down I need to lie down and the local A&E has a red warning at the moment due to being at capacity. But more so the GP that I saw said they won't do anything for me because a cyst has been ruled out, and things like torsion etc would present differently. So I was advised to go home and rest and take pain killers.

currently rocking in the bath like some mad woman.

I'll get DH to put a bag together

But the longer you leave it the more time you’ll be in pain. If there is a wait in A and E so be it, you need to be seen

I have had a pain like that. In my earlyb 40s , vaginal births. The pain is because of variciois veins in my lady parts. I also have a prolapse. Diagnosed via trans vag ultrasound. Prolapses also causing increased uti and vaginosis infections which causes abdominal pain. Waiting for gynae appointment. I'll had really bad abdominal pain and was ent to a / e.

the veins cause a real ache like I've been on a bike ride down left side of my vulva seem to get better after my period.

I didn't know you could even get varicose veins in your fanjo! It does feel like the blood supply is being cut off. Did they do anything to treat it at all?
Sorry you went through all of that, sounds utterly miserable

A&E now!

Good luck

Tel12 · 11/10/2026 11:07

A&E. Hopefully the longer wait is for less urgent reasons

EppingIsFun · 11/10/2026 11:08

It would be completely ok to go to A&E. You're in a lot of pain, you've tried various measures to help, nothing has helped. It's what they're there for - go, and sending you my best wishes and hope you feel better soon.

You absolutely can. I had one during a twin pregnancy.

Greenmouldycheese · 11/10/2026 11:09

You should get this checked in A&E for closer inspection. Its not right to be in this much pain. Wish you the best of luck.

CoolPlayer · 11/10/2026 11:09

So random I came across this post. I have pain that yours sounds like mine started in May, even had a week in hospital but no answers. Being looked into for pundendal nerve issues but very slowly because of waiting lists. Can’t work anymore because of the pain it’s left side only and burns. I don’t know why mine started but around the time I was under stress, had been treating a lot for thrush, running, lifting, have you fell on your bum? If I could go back I’d push harder to be referred to gyno and pelvic floor therapy immediately just because of the wait times. Let’s hope yours goes as fast as it came x

FeelingOldOldOld · 11/10/2026 11:10

Do you have back problems, low down? Could it be referred pain from a nerve root impingement in your back (maybe in the caudal region - there are nerves that serve your bladder, bowel, groin etc)? Is there numbness in the groin or is it just pain? (ps I am not a doctor)

Lovemelovemycat · 11/10/2026 11:12

Hi OP. Could it be very tight pelvic floor? Has it gone into some sort of spasm? How old are you? It could also be menopause related. I had something similar and was prescribed estriol cream. Terrible pain and burning. Hope you get it sorted asap xx

CoolPlayer · 11/10/2026 11:13

I’d also say look into hypertonic pelvic floor I didn’t even know it existed x

CoolPlayer · 11/10/2026 11:18

If it is any of these things the pacing around will be making it worse (I paced around all over in panic crying not knowing what to do with myself) I’d maybe try to get a hot water bottle lie down and try you’re absolute best to calm down as much as possible, deep breaths.

Thanks for this. I'm 32 so I hadn't thought of menopause but I guess you never know do you

just feels like the circulation is being cut off. It's that type of sensation. No groin pain, no back or abdominal pain at all. I'll take myself to get seen today as the pain is something else!

reallyagainplease · 11/10/2026 11:21

Could you pay for a private gynaecology appointment? Maybe get an urgent appointment GP and see if they’ll do a scan/ultrasound or something. A&E docs like your gp, won’t be gynaecology experts and that’s who you need to see.

I had a similar dull ache just on my left side too, gp did squat diddly, in fact, now i come to think of it, ignored it. Mine wasn’t unbearable pain though. Its subsided but i an occasionally get it still.
Currently deciding whether to stick a sterile needle into a part of my ear where im getting frequent painful pain that the doctor is also ignoring!

OP, vaginal/vulval shingles is a possibility. Its unusual but not unheard of.

Pudmyboy · 11/10/2026 12:09

If you haven't got anywhere by tomorrow, you could try a GUM clinic, especially if you can get to a major one (for example in a city); they often have doctors/nurses with a gynae background and at least you would be examined. They can then advise further too.

Babyboomtastic · 11/10/2026 12:12

If you are reluctant to go to A&E because your pain is too extreme to wait there, then it shows that you really do need A&E.

Hope they find what it is and get your fixed up!
