I don't know where else to put this but I'm at the end of my rope with this pain.
for 4 days now I've had excruciating pain. The pain is the left side of my vulva, radiating from my labia to deep inside but only on the left side. I've called 111, they told me to go to the pharmacy. They couldn't help. Eventually got OOO appointment and they ruled out a cyst or abscess. The pain is quite deep inside. I do have some swelling but it's too deep to be a cyst and pressing the area doesn't hurt at all. No UTI symptoms at all but I'm in agony. It feels like if you were to tie a bit of string around your finger and the blood flow stops. That's exactly what it feels like, almost like the blood flow is being stopped. Standing makes it worse. Baths don't help. I cannot keep still and I'm in utter agony. The pain goes from my actual left flap and then deeper into my vagina.

Anyone have any ideas? I've taken paracetamol, ibuprofen and codeine and nothing is touching the sides. Even breathing in makes it hurt. Doctors can't do anymore and I am at a loss on what to do. 😭

Surely they cannot leave women in pain like this and that's that? The pain at times is almost similar to giving birth down there and nothing is helping it. Please help, I'm in tears. Any advice or similar experiences?

See I was thinking A&E but I can't sit down I need to lie down and the local A&E has a red warning at the moment due to being at capacity. But more so the GP that I saw said they won't do anything for me because a cyst has been ruled out, and things like torsion etc would present differently. So I was advised to go home and rest and take pain killers.

currently rocking in the bath like some mad woman.

I'll get DH to put a bag together

Could you drive to a different A&E that's less busy?

GrimDamnFanjo · 11/10/2026 12:44

That’s sounds like an emergency tbh. Get yourself to a hospital.

Muffsies · 11/10/2026 12:50

Sounds like varicose veins, but not had them myself. Do you or your family get them?

gamerchick · 11/10/2026 12:54

You could go to A&E but diagnosis and treatment would be far faster in a GUM clinic if you don't want to sit in A&E for hours.

It's their area.

Muffsies · 11/10/2026 12:58

Look up superficial venous thrombosis in the vag, does that sound like your symptoms? It's not as serious as a DVT but is very painful and requires treatment. You my need an ultrasound of your noonaa to check it out. Hospital is the only way.

GUM clinic is a good suggestion. Even if they can't deal with it they can refer you to the hospital so you get specialist treatment.

Good luck and let us known how you get on.

migraineosaurus · 11/10/2026 13:17

Sounds horrendous OP.

hope you get some answers.

WonderingWanda · 11/10/2026 13:23

When you say doctors can't do any more do you mean you've actually been examined by your gp and they have just sent you away? That's outrageous. Ring out of hours and ask for an urgent appointment and then ask to be referred to a gynaecologist.

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 11/10/2026 13:26

Possibly a bit early for perimenopause symptoms but nothing is out of the question 😕

I had dreadful burning and tightness after my hormones plummeted during the post natal period after my youngest daughter was born in 2020. I was 39 and it seems to have probably been the beginning of perimenopause symptoms for me. I remember one day going to bed with a ice pack under a flannel held in between my legs. It was just horrible, and tests for thrush etc all came back negative.

Being a woman utterly sucks at times. You have my absolute sympathy, empathy and huge hugs. As PPs have said, A&E to get it properly investigated, and then they might be able to assess whether hormones etc are potentially causing it.

Hugs, hope you can get relief very soon ♥️❤️♥️

OnlyTheLonelyOne · 11/10/2026 13:27

You need to go A&E or GUM clinic FIRST and ONLY IF afterwards everything comes back clear then look into hypertonic pelvic floor and speak to your GP about it, these were the exercises I followed and it helped mine https://www.plymouthhospitals.nhs.uk/download.cfm?doc=docm93jijm4n11380.pdf&ver=16191

StrandedStarfish · 11/10/2026 13:50

It sounds like a Bartholin’s abcess. I would recommend contacting 111

Good luck, OP! I hope everything is okay and you’re seen to promptly xx

Go to the sexual health clinic. I've been with gynecology issues that weren't an STI and they were great. Seen a nurse and a consultant within an hour and an issue the GP had been stumped with was treated.

rainbowstardrops · 11/10/2026 14:52

Glad you’re waiting to be seen. Sounds bloody horrendous!

This is good advice. GUM (genito urinary medicine) is so much more than a std clinic!!!

tazzy73 · 11/10/2026 15:28

Hopefully you won't be waiting too long.

I'd be thinking a varicose vein in the groin area, or could it be a trapped nerve?
Get some pain relief off the nurses.
X

Laurmolonlabe · 11/10/2026 16:41

Go to A&E get a scan and some oral morphine- that will do it, but really you need to know why it is happening- so push them to do a scan.

CoolPlayer · 11/10/2026 18:20

Did you get seen? Have you looked up pelvic inflammatory disease and pundendal neuralgia x

CoolPlayer · 11/10/2026 18:21

And Vulvodynia, just throwing out words that’s been suggested to me :)

Eileen101 · 11/10/2026 18:23

Hope you're soon feeling some relief OP.

And Vulvodynia, just throwing out words that’s been suggested to me :)

that means a painful vulva, its more of a symptom than a diagnosis.

godmum56 · 11/10/2026 18:24

that means a painful vulva, its more of a symptom than a diagnosis.

Mine starts at the Vulva and follows almost a line of pain to the back of the vagina on the left side. This is the word I’ve been given while I wait for further investigation really wish I knew exactly what was going on! (Of course not everyone who gets vaginal pain will have it last as so many things can be going on) xx

somanychristmaslights · 11/10/2026 18:33

If it does turn out to be something, please put a complaint in with the GP. Just to turn you away and say take painkillers is horrendous.
