to think Strictly is too noisy

Just that, really. It's like they think nothing can possibly be fun if people aren't constantly cheering, screaming and whooping. OK, some cheering and whooping is to be expected, it's that kind of show and it'd feel flat if there wasn't any. But the whole thing is just so bloody noisy and personally I think it'd be more enjoyable if they dropped it down just a notch.

Surely it's not just me?

(PS I'm stuck watching it with elderly DM, in case anyone's wondering why I'm watching it if I don't like the noise. 😬😄)

I can't watch it for this reason. I would enjoy the dancing and music if it wasn't for all the screaming!

SapphireSteel28 · 10/10/2026 19:50

YANBU. My Mum has in on and it’s my cue to leave. It’s horrifically frantic and loud-just unbearable.

Pingsung · 10/10/2026 19:50

How many years has it been going now?Far too long in my opinion. Think of something else for the long run up to Christmas BBC!

JustWalnut · 10/10/2026 19:52

Can't say I had noticed! And I am very sensitive to noise in real life.

lemoncrisp · 10/10/2026 19:53

Me too. I would love the show if it wasn't so annoyingly screamy and shouty. Can't watch it - even on catch-up skipping through all the bits between dancing it's still infuriating.

GoodkneeBadKnee · 10/10/2026 19:54

I've thought this for years! I'm a big Strictly fan, but it's becoming less enjoyable as the noise levels rise and rise

RikthePoet · 10/10/2026 19:55

My MIL has described it this evening as "a load of giddy girls, but I suppose it's harmless entertainment."

Sarah2891 · 10/10/2026 19:56

Agreed. I can't watch shows that are like this.

Blueskybluebird · 10/10/2026 19:56

Yup, not just you. Love the dancing but it's way too hyped-up and noisy. I think it's become worse.

ThatNavyHam · 10/10/2026 19:57

Generally don't see the issue but I see where your coming from sometimes the whooping is just unnecessary.

jumpintheline · 10/10/2026 19:57

Soooooo loud shouty screamy and raucous.
watching now with the sound turned down low.

Meredusoleil · 10/10/2026 19:57

I agree. But the worst bit is at the end when they say the voting is open and they all go mad being silly and making the most noise they physically can 🤫

MaeshoweDragon · 10/10/2026 19:59

Johannes is REALLY noisy. Have started watching it recorded half an hour behind so we can skip those bits.

Same! I have to be able to fast-forward through the noisy bits and the boring in-between bits or else I really do lose the will to live, fortunately DM isn't fussed about them either. 😄

Absolutely yonks, and I'm certain it wasn't always this noisy! I think there's still a place for it, but the format is grating on me more and more in recent years. DM lives with us and she always wants it on as she and my dad went ballroom dancing back in the day and that's actually how they met. I'm not sure how much of what she sees on Strictly counts as ballroom dancing for her, though. 😄

I fast forward through the bits I don’t like. I just want to watch the actual dancing.

I mostly do too, although I like to hear the judges' comments and the scores too, and those bits are always so noisy. Maybe we should watch those bits on mute with the subtitles on. 😄

I think it's such a shame that the BBC don't have all the previous series to watch on iPlayer -I'd love to watch the early series again, it was far less shouty and silly and the dances were a lot more authentic and recognisable than they seem to be these days and it would be lovely to see all the original professional dancers.

Villagetoraiseachild · 10/10/2026 20:19

I miss the focus of Claudia in the Claudatorium. It's like they've all overdosed on Kendal Mint Rock Cake! Or worse! It's very high octane.

Agree with this - Jojo's OTT camp behaviour is so jarring. He is such an attention seeker with his outrageous outfits. It's not about you mate!

I wonder if there might be other white substances floating around backstage… 😄

It's the bloody slightly-off-the-beat audience clapping to the music which I hate.
I wish the whole thing was a bit more sedate and less like being shouted at by a hyped up toddler for two hours.

I think Vito is giddier than any of the girls

Oh I love Vito, but I do know what you mean. He makes me smile 😃

It should have ended when Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly retired. Perhaps just have a Christmas special.

BBC flogging things for years, not the only show like this. The Apprentice comes to mind, however many years of Casualty.
