to think Strictly is too noisy

Just that, really. It's like they think nothing can possibly be fun if people aren't constantly cheering, screaming and whooping. OK, some cheering and whooping is to be expected, it's that kind of show and it'd feel flat if there wasn't any. But the whole thing is just so bloody noisy and personally I think it'd be more enjoyable if they dropped it down just a notch.

Surely it's not just me?

(PS I'm stuck watching it with elderly DM, in case anyone's wondering why I'm watching it if I don't like the noise. 😬😄)

Johannes' sections are awful. He talks so badly you can't hear him and the noise in the background drowns him out too. His outfits have to be an ongoing quality street advert surely?

nochance17 · 11/10/2026 08:12

Same ! I don’t watch it now for this reason. When I’ve watched it before I just watched the dances and pressed mute in between , I can’t listen to all the shouting and screaming and the inane chat and hosts. It’s overly dramatic like everything now. I’d rather watch the original Come Dancing from the 70s ! Wish they’d put that on.

AutumnAugury · 11/10/2026 08:13

I did wonder about this for the first 2 episodes, but put it down to me being a grumpy, old lady, who used to dance a bit.
BUT you are right, screaming, clapping, yelling and not just on SCD. This appears to be the background to life today. Every action, be it good or bad, has its background seal approval chorus.
Devaluates the really good stuff and makes everything LCD. Shame.

Highonmyownsupply · 11/10/2026 08:41

The American version is unwatchable for the same frenetic energy levels. Maybe ours is morphing into that.

Omg totally agree about Jojo's outfits. He really does look like the old style Quality Street sweets when they were in the shiny foil wrappers! Sharp pointy angles and all 😉

Mum stopped watching it for exactly this reason.

It's not applause and the odd woop.

It is completely unecessary hysterical screaming from every member of the audience. All the time.

the only radio stations I can listen to are radio 3 and 4.

Everything else is just a wall of hysterics. It's not the pop music that's the problem - I love all music. It's the presenters, the adverts, the screaming callers, the layered upon layered upon layered sound effects...

MetteBiddler · 11/10/2026 09:05

I've loved Strictly for years but don't like the screaming and giddiness that's crept in. iPlayer has brought in a great new bookmark feature where you can easily skip to the dances - it's the only way I'll watch it now. Love the training segments and the dances but everything else is a bit much.

Jimmyjumpy · 11/10/2026 09:05

Its a crap programme. So called celebrities Ive not heard off. Lots of younger, attractive females and then the token oldie who cant dance for toffee. Darling this and that and really annoying presenters.

Pedant61 · 11/10/2026 09:08

Strictly has always been unwatchable (I have tried). I would quite like to watch people learn a new skill, ie dance, but the ghastly studio audience, shrieking, sentimentality and general nonsense just makes me rush for the off switch.

Smallinthesmoke · 10/10/2026 21:22

It's the bloody slightly-off-the-beat audience clapping to the music which I hate.
I wish the whole thing was a bit more sedate and less like being shouted at by a hyped up toddler for two hours.

Yes! Never on the beat.... does the production team not notice? It's completely unnecessary and excruciating.

Sadly I agree, this seems to be society today! It really jars on me a lot of the time. It's like people don't know how to express excitement or joy any more without screaming (or, the case of Strictly, doing that 'WOOWOOWOO!' thing, the audience noise would be so much more tolerable even without that!) Depressing.

I stopped watching it five or six years ago, completely agree it was too loud and over the top, couldn’t stand all the shouting and showing off, used to be a great programme but became too much about the professionals showing off.

BellaPommefritio · Yesterday 16:08

We have started watching one hour in and pressing the green button- this way we can go from the start but fast forward through all the screeching/ embarrassing segeways and just watch the dances and the scores.

Clemdfandango · Yesterday 16:15

Funny you should say that because I've decided not to watch it this year but I came across a clip of it on SM and my first thought was how loud it was!

I agree I cannot watch it
All the whooping and noise its a young person's thing *( I am young myself)
in the theatre at the end of a show now people shout WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO - they are copying imbecilic Americans
Try being in a pub or restaurant with a load of 20s year olds they all just shout at each other - they do not want to listen so if someone else talks they just shout over them
It is bizarre
