to not get why people are so offended by Dryrobes?

I was picking up a parcel at my local InPost lockers in town today, and overheard someone commenting on my Dryrobe. It’s the first time I’ve heard anything myself, but there’s loads of Facebook groups for laughing at “Dryrobe Wankers”. I know that they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, but so what? Why do people are so much about the coat a stranger is wearing to the point they are making social media shaming posts about them?

you're meant to get changed under it after outdoor swimming not just throw it on and go to Tesco in your damp cossie and a mahoosive coat

Why? Its up to the individual how they manage their after swim. I just put it on after swimming and then sometimes might need to stop off at a shop. So what.

I use a dry robe for after swimming and never wear any other time. It is great for warming up after a swim and changing in. It’s far too big to wear as a coat for walking round town or whatever, the sleeves are huge and get in the way and I suspect it smells a bit of lake.

you don't have to

but many other people do. Love my dry robe so much all my kids have one too!

I thought I saw someone in a dryrobe at my local inpost locker today too.
When I parked up, I realised it was a full dressing gown/Pj's/slippers combo. 😬

I thought you might have seen me at first! Happily I don’t own a single pair of slippers and the furthest my dressing gown/Oodie has gone is the top of the drive when I’ve realised way too late the bins aren’t out, and then I have the cover of darkness.

Who cares as long as you’re covered? I prefer to shower in my cossie, and take it off mid shower, so the salt is washed off- and it has sleeves, so it’s a bugger to get off on the beach.

Live and let live.

I'm a cold water swimmer who doesn't use one. I have no views on them on the whole apart from sometimes wondering, if you don't swim, are they actually the best coat to use? But I really don't care one way or the other.

Logsonthefire2 · Yesterday 22:09

I think if you’ve been for an outdoor swim fun. If you just put it over your pjs on the school run it’s very chavtastic.

Brickiscool · Yesterday 22:15

Sorry but do you mean you went shopping in a swimming towel ? Because that's pretty odd. Aren't they just for wearing when wet?

ShowOfHands · Yesterday 22:15

Mine is Regatta too.

I love it.

They are hideous, imo, but each to their own.

Honestly though you are wearing a wetsuit and and towel and crocs. When we went swimming years ago we would change our clothes afterwards. It’s like you want everyone to know you have done something interesting. If you are so fit and amazing can you not change your outfit before going shopping?

Edited

It was before swimming because changing lakeside is a PITA, and a Dryrobe isn’t really a towel. It’s more like a huge waterproof windproof coat, which has space to change under if you want. I was in a short wetsuit under a zipped up dry robe (to obscure the wetsuit from view). Crocs are hardly exclusive to swimmers. I really don’t think anyone would have known I was ready for swimming. I wasn’t shopping either, just picking up a Vinted parcel from a locker.

If I go shopping after swimming in my Dryrobe I’m clothed and dry under it (though still in Crocs).

Its not the robe itself but I associate them with dog owners. Dog wankers and dry robe wankers tend to come under the same umbrella

You sound a delight 🥸

Almost every nurse on the planet wears Crocs! Also Dryrobes are fantastic for plus size women as regular coats are a nightmare when you’re plus size, it’s not as simple as buying a bigger size for more movement as the arms end up too long! Dry Robes solve that. I don’t own one but my Mini Schnauzer has a Dry Robe from RNLI (they did a collab to raise money for the RNLI) and sure enough, some twat took a photo of my poor little Schnauzer on walkies and uploaded it to that childish Facebook group

Have just started beach swimming .
So practical and warm . Just wear from beach to car and will use it for wet weather dog walks . In the lucky position of rarely meeting anyone but DH on my walks
(see user name !) and he has got used to some outlandish wet weather gear over the years !

Of course it's completely different.

Do you think wild swimmers also have a coat and exclusively use their dry robe to change? When it's also a perfectly roomy, comfortable, warm and waterproof coat?😂

People who think they look "awful" never dare showing photos of what THEY are wearing, because it's never an improvement and they don't look at all better.

If you go swimming and can’t be arsed to get dressed before going shopping, it’s no different to not being arsed to change out of your pyjamas and dressing gown when you go to Tesco 🤷‍♀️

Literally no different.

Yep it's pathetic
