Depends;
Do you live on a busy main road or in a cul-de-sac?
Was it your son that smashed the window?
Have you said to the naighbours that any resulting damage will of course be paid for?
Is there a better place for them to play?

Yes kids need fresh air but not necessarily on a road....

Jackstini · 30/06/2008 16:05

Neighbours - doh

greenladybird · 30/06/2008 16:05

well its a quite street.

wasn't my son that smashed the window.

Yes, you generally seem to be unreasonable, IMHO.

BibiThree · 30/06/2008 16:10

Depends if they are genuinely making a nuisance of themselves. We live in a cul-de-sac and constantly get kids kicking a ball outside our house resulting in it either thwacking the front door, window or ending up in our garden (2 flights down as we're in a split level house). It gets wearing after a few weeks of constant knocks on the door asking us to go get their ball back.
I've even had their parents come up here and start shouting at me when i've said no because I've got 11mo twins who I can't leave on their own while I traipse down two flights of stairs to get their feckin' ball...again.
If the neighbours aren't being bothered, just like to complain then let the kids play in the street, but remember you might be used to the noise that comes along with children, other people may not and can find it a lot more annoying than you think.

Blandmum · 30/06/2008 16:10

If they are being unreasonable in their play then yes you are being unreasonable.

Why not have a chat with the neighbours and the kids and establish some general ground rules?

Tortington · 30/06/2008 16:11

If there is a nearby park or your houses have gardens, I'm with your neighbours. In my experience, people rarely complain unless they feel they have to. We had neighbours who let their children play football in the street and the kids would shout abuse at ayone who tried to use the road for, say, driving in and kick their ball against car. It was an almighty pain. We moved.

avenanap · 30/06/2008 16:14

I think that adults forget what it is to be a child. He was probably up to worse when he was a child but I would encourage my child to keep away from the old farts persons house.

harleyd · 30/06/2008 16:14

oh pmsl ll

Wagwan · 30/06/2008 16:14

Hmmm I think you need this

BibiThree · 30/06/2008 16:14

I'm all in favour of kids playing out, just not so keen on them bringing their ball the whole length of the street to play outside my door not their own. We also get their bikes strewn across our driveway and one time I came home from work and couldn't pull in as there was a dolls tea party going on in my drive. That's when it gets annoying.

thebecster · 30/06/2008 16:14

cocolepew · 30/06/2008 16:16

SORRY! Didn't mean to shout

Tortington · 30/06/2008 16:18

no i am refering to a certain deleted thread about this very subject a few months ago

micci25 · 30/06/2008 16:20

the kids on our street play football right outside of my window! my window that has rotten window sills and single pane glass! if thier ball hits my window even once it will shatter all over my small living room and more than likely over my dds so i can see where your neighbours are coming from tbh!

i dont complain as im normally pretty laid back about these things and you are right dc's need to play outside, though i dont know why it has to be outside my window?! i just close my curtains so that if the window does go through the glass wont go all over my living room and i keep my dcs off the chair under the window!

but that means that their dcs playing in the street affects the way my dds can behave in their own home so if i did chose to complain becasue of this i would expect them to respect my wishes and move their kids away!

imo YABU!
