YANBU
Kids should be allowed to play in their own street

SO long as they do not traipse over other gardnes/ do not damge other property and pack it in at a reasonable hour.

I used to be a neighbourhood Police oficer and used to get no end of complaints form old farts poeple complaining about kids, used to reaaly --piss me off- annoy me.

goingslowlymad · 30/06/2008 16:41

YABU. I don't think children should be playing football in the street, full stop. If they are old enough to play in the street, then they can take themselves to a local park where my car and house isn't going to get thwacked with a ball.

I will NEVER allow mine in the street to play football. Children + balls + road + parked cars = recipe for disaster.

MrsDougRoss · 30/06/2008 16:49

i live in a street where kids are always playing football. A window got broken and cars damaged. There is a park just out the back and the kids are 11 so could probably go there on their own, or play in their own garden.

YABU 2 kids play on the grass right opp my DCs bedroom window and yell and shout at each other - while my DC are trying to get to sleep ... it drives me mad, I think kids SHOULD be out playing but should be taught to respect others too .. and that means no yelling when other children may be sleeping ....

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 01/07/2008 18:53

Other children may be sleeping at any time of day, though.

leogirl · 07/07/2008 08:42

yes but they are definitely sleeping in the evening !!!

I lived in a road (cul de sac)where children used to play football in the street. When I first moved in some of the neighbours warned me about it, but I thought, "It's only football and I can handle the kids running in my front garden to get their football back" so I tolerated it.

However, I got a new car, and on the second day that I had it, a leather football bounced on the bonnet causing a massive great dent. About 2 weeks later a football hit my wing mirror with such force that it smashed it!

I'll also add that there was a playing field and park two minutes away so playing in the road was pretty unnecessary.

So from my experience of what footballs can do, I would say that you are being unreasonable unless you take responsibility and pay for damage when it happens.

From the messages on here regarding children playing ball games, I gather we live in a children's dictatorship...? Let us get some parent's responsibilities back, some respect and some responsibility.

!!!!!!!!! ZOMBLE 14 YEAR OLD THREAD !!!!!!!!!!

Avelanda · 22/10/2022 17:44

@Viking1972 how did you find this thread!? It’s from 2008!

Lovemelovemydoggie · 22/10/2022 17:46

DC do need fresh air so…you send them to the park or take yourself if they’re younger.

Footballs are heavy and can damage cars/windows etc not to mention the noise. The road isn’t there as convenient entertainment for your DC.

the kids on our street play football right outside of my window! my window that has rotten window sills and single pane glass! if thier ball hits my window even once it will shatter all over my small living room and more than likely over my dds so i can see where your neighbours are coming from tbh!

i dont complain as im normally pretty laid back about these things and you are right dc's need to play outside, though i dont know why it has to be outside my window?! i just close my curtains so that if the window does go through the glass wont go all over my living room and i keep my dcs off the chair under the window!

but that means that their dcs playing in the street affects the way my dds can behave in their own home so if i did chose to complain becasue of this i would expect them to respect my wishes and move their kids away!

imo YABU!

micci

You can buy 'plastic glass' to put on the inside of your windows, it helps with insulation and would stop the glass going everywhere if it did get broken. You can't see it once it's on.

Bonjovispjs · 22/10/2022 17:56

I'd imagine the kid is all grown up now as this thread is 14 years old.

why? Why resurrect a 13 year old thread???

you had to do it knowingly as it warns you when you try to post,

Hobnobswantshernameback · 22/10/2022 17:59

Why the fuck did someone re awaken a 14 year old zombie thread
these kids might have kids of their own by now
or the hairy handed one who started it has mini trolls under the bridge

Devoutspoken · 22/10/2022 18:11

I'd rather football than cars any day

As this thread is 14 years old I'd imagine OPs children probably aren't playing football on the street anymore...

SophieJo · 22/10/2022 19:26

Yes you are being unreasonable without thinking of your neighbours.

Murdoch1949 · 22/10/2022 19:34

How often is it? How old are the players? What time does it stop? How long do they play for? 1-2 hours in the afternoon, twice a week is fine, especially if the kids are younger than 11.

Avelanda · 22/10/2022 22:45

@Murdoch1949 even if the kids were 11 when the op posted this, they would be 25 now as this thread is from 2008
