I agree with you, OP. There was something 'try hard' about that picture. The shirt and jeans look a bit old hat. But it was the stomach that did it for me. Trying to look sexy, and failing, for me anyway. Sorry Tom.

I’m not a fan of that style of posing for anyone, but he certainly doesn’t look bad. Age should have nothing to do with it.

I'm against ageism whether it's a man or a woman. If he's comfortable with it, why not? Some people, through a mix of luck and hard work, keep very fit, and good for them. Just wish everyone had the luck to be like that (as in able to exercise, not be a cover model).

Not seen it, but plenty of actresses this age (Demi Moore - looking at you) are still happy to pose for front covers and trading on being 'sexy' still.

Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Michelle Pfeiffer - they are all still playing romantic lead characters.

Good for them (although I think it must be exhausting trying to keep up at their age; I'm over 60 myself and thankfully don't have that sort of pressure)

I think the problem is, is that Tom Cruise isn't sexy! He was a bit of heartthrob in the 80s, but he's not a sexy older man. So pictures like this are just a bit embarrassing!

Tom is physically in good shape. I think it's quite an attractive pose tbh - it's not too revealing but still has a hint of sauciness.

Sadly though I find this thoroughly unappealing. Not because of his age or his body, but because of what he's done to his face. He looks absolutely awful, so plastic and artifically bloated.

As I'm getting older myself, I quite appreciate an attractive older man. And I love seeing sexy older females, especially when they are natural as opposed to chasing youth with surgery and fillers.

And yes, yes, I know: their body, their choice. I just think that looking young has been over-prioritised - it's now deemed better to have smooth, plump, youthful skin but also look a bit strange, than dare to have any wrinkles. We've lost the ability to find beauty and sexiness in anything other than the radiance of youth. And I think that's really sad.

It's not his age, the whole thing is a bit try hard. The clothes and the pose, staring into the camera, it's just not working.

He seems preoccupied with staying youthful, as are much of Hollywood, and for many years he didn't really seem to age. But he's in his mid 60s and things start to inevitably give.

I saw him asked how he felt about getting older and he tried to be all nonchalant and breezy in his response, but I don't think he's very nonchalant and breezy about it.

I have always wondered why so many women swoon over Tom Cruise. He's okay and takes on some interssting parts. But he was never a heart throb in my eyes.

Unfortunately, though I know it's a me thing and is a bit sexist, I can't take men of a certain age seriously if they are dyeing their hair. I'm also looking at you, Nicholas Cage and John Cusack. I just think why?

I don’t think it’s ageist to see some expressions of sexuality as inherently about being younger. Older men seem sexier to me when they do less not more. More dignity and gravitas maybe?
