Would you hang this in your house?

My DH has inherited a framed certificate and medal which was presented to a relative in 1937 when she was a British army nurse. She was stationed in Spain when a German battleship was bombed and she helped care for the injured.

The medal was awarded to her by the German Red Cross with the approval of Adolf Hitler, and his name is very prominent on the certificate - it stands out more than any of the other text. Do you think it’s bad taste to hang this in our house, or is it merely an interesting piece of historical memorabilia?

If your cousin had a Jim'll Fix it badge for their charity work, would you put that on display because you were proud of their charity work? No, you would not. And he didn't even kill 17 million (or whatever number it was).

If the person who makes an award is unworthy and unqualified by virtue of their actions, the award itself is meaningless and void. So why put it on the wall for people to see, unless you are a sympathiser?

The German Red Cross made the award, not Hitler himself, and it’s signed by the head of the German Red Cross.

If i wanted to hang it, i'd hang it.
It commemorates a relative, is an interesting historical document and I'd refuse to let Hitler influence me in 2026.

I'd hang it in an office or something as an interesting bit of family history but not in a 'public' bit of my house. Not for fear of offence but because I wouldn't hang any medal or certificate in a living space, they don't tend to be aesthetically very pleasing.

Displaying this nurse's certificate as a curio "look my relative got a certificate with Hitler's name on it" - no, absolutely not. Displaying it as a pre-war Red Cross certificate for compassion and bravery, with Hitler's name removed or hidden so no one other than a historian of the time would ever know it had even been there - I think that could be OK. Not OK if you show people and then the first thing you say is "that's Hitler's name under there", though.

How childish, you wouldn't even consider the circumstances in which it was awarded? how about if someone else was the German leader at the time? it doesn't affect that this woman selflessly cared for someones injuries despite which side they were on.
