Refusing to allow neighbour use driveway for toddler bday party?

I'm probably going to sound really mean but my NDN out of the blue asked me today if some of her guests would be able to park on my driveway in a few weeks for her child's 2nd birthday party.

We have a DC who is the same age but they have never played or interacted so we defo wouldn't expect an invite or want one either.

We are literally waiting for handover for our new home so it's not like our kids would ever play interact anyway when we move.

For back story we don't really get on, she's very nosey and always talking about people, been the perpetrator of anti social behaviour and the moans about other neighbours doing stuff.

I have tried to remain civil as they live next door to me but last time prior today I saw her 3 months ago and said hello but she was very reluctant to say it back but did say "hi" but could tell she didn't really want to speak so we have just ignored each other since.

They have quite a few issues with other neighbours so it's not just me.

But when she asked me when I declined straight away without even thinking about it and walked back into the house.

AIBU?

It's like right now she has her music on at full blast and I am supposed to be doing her favours?

She has no awareness or consideration for anyone just herself, she has been asked politely many times by myself and others if she could keep her music down.

She has made my life hell here, and again most normal people who had general awareness wouldn't have even asked after how she has treated me and they would know I wouldn't want to be helping her.

So what? Just because OP and neighbour aren’t mates doesn’t mean OP needs to be a difficult like that will prove anything but that she is as bad or worse than the neighbour. How childish.

Edited

What’s wrong with not wanting anyone on your property ? The entitlement of some people is astounding

Newusername2026 · 12/09/2026 22:26

I don't fully understand. But if your drive is not in use by you I don't see the problem with allowing neighbour's guests to use it for a short defined period of time

I wouldn’t be doing favours for someone who’d treated me like the OP’s neighbour has treated her. I don’t get people who brown nose people who treat them badly, it’s just spineless.

The OP obviously doesn't care what NDN thinks of her. So if she had agreed, it wouldn't be brown-nosing, it would be because she's rising above some tit-for-tat nastiness. I would've said yes if it didn't inconvenience me, to show her how decent people behave. It might make her more considerate in future, you never know. Blocking the drive etc is really petty. But I do understand why the OP doesn't want to do her any favours.

SummerPunch · 12/09/2026 22:42

Yanbu. I let my neighbour I get on with park across my drive but not the antisocial one

haloeeenbany · 12/09/2026 23:29

The drive has space for 2 cars, we have one space spare.
She still has loud music playing and it's every 2 weeks when her DC is with the dad, if she wanted favours surely she would be more considerate?

To be honest, I absolutely hate her guts and do not want to be doing her any favours, I hate her.

If that’s the case why are you asking if you are unreasonable or not?

Just be wary of her letting visitors park on there anyway!

Fupoffyagrasshole · Yesterday 12:14

God people are so precious over their bloody driveways

I’d have just said yes it will make zero diff to your life letting people park once for a few hours

And if they do there’s nothing you can really do about it 🤷‍♀️

If it doesnt inconvenience you then why not. Youre leaving soon anyway

it is an inconvenience if you can't get on and off your own drive because complete strangers are blocking you in

Because she's a cheeky rude fucker and doesn't give OP time of day normally. So it's clearly going to be a big fat no

Is parking on the road an issue?

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 13:39

Jeez how do you know she was reluctant to say hi? Maybe she had a lot on her mind. Honestly this sounds really petty.

100%, people like this don’t get favours nor should they. As for rising above it and showing her how people should behave as someone else wrote (eye roll), that never works, it just gets you known as a push over and they’ll just take advantage of you more and more. Good for you, sounds like you’ve got this

Lavenderandbrown · Yesterday 13:44

No is the correct answer. I agree with other posters…why be nice to people
who aren’t nice? She is only being nice because she wants something from you. And what seems a simple request a few hours for a party won’t be…guests overnight or her car overnight or something unexpected and inconsiderate. She didn’t suddenly become a thoughtful considerate neighbor.

absolutely be prepared for her and her guests to create parking problems day of event. Park your car so they cannot block you in or use your drive.

Gettingbysomehow · Yesterday 13:50

You dont get to be a rude and snotty neighbour than expect other people to do favours for you. Well done.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · Yesterday 13:51

Well she has reaped what she sowed.

It depends how you’d feel if you said yes I think. If you enjoy having the high moral ground and it makes you feel good you could say yes. But if it would make you feel like a pushover (understandably) or you just don’t want to, say no, as you have done.

Only you know which would be better for your peace of mind.

Cakeandcardio · Yesterday 13:55

When I had my son's party my neighbour across the road messaged me to say for family to use her driveway as she would be out all afternoon, which was lovely and kind of her. But we do get on in a wave and say hello kind of way and no ill feeling. If your neighbour hasn't been kind to you then why would you keep putting yourself out to help? So you were absolutely fine!

HelpMeGetThrough · Yesterday 14:00

Nah, fuck em.

I’m probably the unfriendly neighbour and rarely interact with mine (well actually never). Makes life easier if they fuck you off and you need to have a go at them.

5gymbabe · Yesterday 14:38

crazymommaclub · 12/09/2026 17:45

I would have said yes, as it could lead to a much more positive relationship with your NDN. Plus if you ever need some extra spaces, you can then ask her to return the favour.

They are moving they are not going to be there

Amusedatlife · Yesterday 14:48

Good for you. And on day of party, park on the street at the end of your drive so they can’t use it or block you in!

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · Yesterday 14:55

How did the request play out OP?
Did you just give a flat no or make an excuse?
How did she respond? 🍿
