AIBU to be shocked at the violence towards women at the Reform conference?

ILikeDinosaurs · 06/09/2026 11:03

Another video showing the violence against a woman at the Reform conference. They are actually PULLING A WOMAN DOWN ON THE FLOOR and KICKING HER.

A man in a suit and a man with a lanyard both kicking her. The man with the walking stick in the other videos (identified as Stephen Cooling) looks like he's pulling her down and possibly kicking her too. Women are just watching with no care for the victim.

This is Fascism. Given Nigel's horrifyingly GLEEFUL response to this, this violence will become the norm under Reform.

How can people defend this?

Mods please don't take this down, this mustn't be allowed to be ignored.

I think YABU, because this is who reform are.

ArtieChoke · 07/09/2026 06:07

Yabu to be shocked

DeftGoldHedgehog · 07/09/2026 06:09

No, I'm not surprised. Many of their supporters are obvious misogynist thugs, the others you just need to scratch the surface. They will always continually implode like this with words or deeds as none of them can be civilised for long.

I’m so glad there is so much support for the right to peacefully protest, like at Dover yesterday.

No one supports those fascists other than the ignorant.

Exactly.

You are trying to talk sense - it won't be supported on this woke thread. People just want to bash Reform and Restore, no particular reason is needed. And virtue-signal as well.

How is it "woke" to say very public group assault of someone is not acceptable? I would go as far as to say it doesn't matter who the people involved are - they are all citizens and should abide by the laws of this country and its actually illegal to beat someone up like this. In case you did not know.

Breaking into a conference and heckling is not illegal and if it was an issue she could have been taken out by security. There was no need to assault her.

If 'the right' at Dover were each being being surrounded by multiple people and dragged out of town by their hair after being kicked and hit with sticks, then I'd be disturbed by that too.
I think the men at Dover were intimidating and an absolute nuisance to the people they claim to be protecting, however if they stayed within the law, then so be it
I can defend their right while still considering them disturbing.
We see at the Conference how quickly people with their views lose control of themselves. The conference goers were 'ordinary people' who quite literally jumped at the chance to hurt a woman. Goodness knows how bad they are when they've got together winding each other up to a premeditated action.
I find fanatics of any colour equally disturbing so you don't need to dredge up examples of extremists from 'the left' as whatabountery. I know. I've condemned them too.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/09/2026 08:09

I think if I'd been trying to get on a ferry to France and my car was surrounded by men in paramilitary uniform I'd be terrified even if they weren't actually violent. What they did was threatening and intimidating. The victim of the beating at the Reform Conference was one woman who merely held up a banner.

This thread seems to have been overtaken by myths, this sometimes happens on mumsnet.

I said that the only unsettling thimg I saw was a woman being held by her hair.

I asked for evidence of people being punched, kicked and hit with crutches. None has been provided. Some pictures were posted, but they did not show any of these alleged attacks.

Someone linked a BBC article which claimed the police are looking into an incident involving a woman being grabbed by the hair.

The Police are seemingly not looking for anyone over incidents involving being punched, kicked or hit with crutches.

In the article, Zia Yusuf was asked if he condones punching people and he said no. Thats the only reference to punching.

I am 100% open to revising my opinion if any evidence of these things is provided. But currently it seems we are getting all het up over myths or exaggerations.

Crutches indicate that someone who is injured or disabled was present. I think its remarkable that someone of this description is being painted as an violent assailant. Really?

Imagine the hecklers were Reform supporters. Then, the story would be flipped to "Reform thugs attack disabled pensioners". Its all so predictable.

I dont condone violence against anyone, and I dont think anyone on the thread has condoned violence. Rather, a lot of people have commented on the obvious point that if you going into someone's special event and try hard to get up their nose, you likely wont get a very friendly response. Especially in a climate where a Reform politician has recently been murdered.

Oh dear it's always so embarrassing when people don't read the thread or the links provided

It’s not as though Jenrick disputed the veracity of the videos when he was interviewed yesterday. He saw what we all saw and claimed it didn’t bother him.

YourWatermelonship · 07/09/2026 08:42

Reform and their supporters are going to throw everything they can at this video in order to try to bury it

We've had denial (it's AI, it's not clear, people are exaggerating, I haven't seen it), discrediting (she's a professional heckler), dismissal (the laughing and the "jokes"), whataboutery (but asylum seekers... but Labour...), censorship ("ageism in MN is disgusting") and victim blaming (she got off lightly, what did she expect).

Did I forget anything?

I for one am bemused at the desperate attempts at getting people to ignore the evidence they have seen with their own eyes.

Reform knows how bad this assault looks.

And at some point we will get the video audio - I'm sure the attackers weren't quiet during their onslaught. So there is more to come.

Are you an advocate of gatecrashing, normally?

Are you an advocate of violence and lying?

YABU for being shocked. This is completely what I expect from the “Protect Women” crowd.

Peaceful protest by masked and hooded men that seriously disrupted the legitimate functioning of the UK's biggest port, versus two women showing a banner and heckling at a party conference? Pull the other one.

Was it a peaceful protest or not?

The law says disruption to infrastructure is unlawful.

It was intimidating and prevented people going about their lawful business. I would have been frightened if I had been there. I don't condone other groups stopping traffic either.

KatiePricesKnickers · 07/09/2026 12:29

No. “Peace” by intimidation and threat of violence is never peaceful. And they certainly weren’t peaceful in portsmouth either.

Top tip: If you are wandering around dressed as though you are about to nick somebody's phone, then you are not part of a peaceful protest.

As usual they're all over the shop. Ali has condemned the violence. Anderson has called for a whip round for the assailant.

A fascist wants to control thought - she is a fascist who didn't belong but wanted to cause trouble. She certainly found it. No gaslighting here.

OMG 😬fascism is far-right authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology.

FYI, just so you don't inadvertently embarrass yourself again.

The people kicking and pushing the female protestor are thugs, radicalised thugs.

NotAtMyAge · 07/09/2026 13:56

KatiePricesKnickers · 07/09/2026 12:29

Was it a peaceful protest or not?

I wasn't there, but from the bits I've seen I consider disrupting other people's lives to that extent is a form of violence. Queuing in traffic for hours and missing ferries can be very stressful for people just trying to get on with their own lives. In addition the sight of so many masked and hooded men in black is deeply intimidating, as of course it was meant to be.

LVPLVT · 07/09/2026 14:28

Have you seen Jenrick’s comments today when asked about the violence towards female protesters? “Boo hoo”. I’m absolutely mortified and disgusted that an MP would respond to VAWG in that matter. What the fuck?!
