I had a large (okay, very large) glass of wine.
Am I okay to take Nytol in 3 or 4 hours? Ice been going through a terrible bout of insomnia and really need to be operational tomorrow:(

Does it normally make you groggy the next day, i.e. if you take it when you haven't had any alcohol?

If you're usually fine I should think if you leave a 4 hour gap you will be OK. If it usually makes you groggy the next day I wouldn't risk it if you need to be firing on all cylinders tomorrow.

Bit dramatic. You are an adult.

I normally feel fine!

I was worried about dying in my sleep 😂

Eh? OP asked a perfectly reasonable question in a perfectly reasonable way 🤔

The worst that could happen with a normal dose of Nytol and one glass of wine is that you feel groggy the next day, so if you're normally fine, go for it. Make sure you are well hydrated with water as being dehydrated is likely to make you feel worse tomorrow. Hope your day goes well!

Why would you die? A large wine is 3 units. 3 hours required to metabolise it.

Contain4 · 04/09/2026 20:55

I don’t know about the nytol but would a couple more glasses of wine not help you sleep?

Chucklebunnie · 04/09/2026 20:57

You don’t need to take Nytol. Have another glass of wine.

Frumpitydoo · 04/09/2026 20:59

Promethazine is available over the counter and is what they use in hospitals for insomniac patients now Zopiclone et al are being phased out. You need a 40-50mg dose for sleep. You are welcome!

AlexandraCarrington · 04/09/2026 20:59

What does it say on the Nytol packaging about mixing with alcohol?

landmarkyear · 04/09/2026 21:02

I’ve done those before. I took Nytol after a glass of wine and I felt awful the next day. The two don’t mix very well. I would try and manage without the Nytol, have a warm bath and hopefully you should drift off to sleep

Pollqueen · 04/09/2026 21:02

Nytol has absolutely zero effect on me so I'm sure you'll be fine

Interesting! So you can just walk into Boots and request this?

Unfortunately not.
I drop off to sleep in seconds. Its waking at 3am thats the problem and alcohol seems to just make it worse

I’m pretty sure if one nytol mixed with a moderate amount of alcohol could kill you it would be in bold (or at least italics) somewhere in the leaflet.

OnlyOneAdda · 04/09/2026 21:07

I’d have another glass of wine AND a Nytol 😉

To add…this sounds like menopause…poss worth considering? Progesterone might have you sleeping through the night xx

seventeenofsumday · 04/09/2026 21:09

This is literally a non issue op, a glass of wine won't cause any problems I'm absolutely certain 😂😂😂😂

Sorry to sound like a severe Nanny but exactly this - drinking alcohol at all if you have insomnia is a terrible idea. I’d fully give it up until you are not suffering from insomnia any more.

On your specific question, you will be fine! Take the Nytol if you think it’ll help.

Wine disrupts sleep and means you don’t get proper deep sleep making you more tired and less capable the next day. Alcohol is terrible for sleep. Those who think it helps are actually sedated not sleeping.

PashaMinaMio · 04/09/2026 21:22

Don’t mix with alcohol.
