AIBU to think Farage should answer to voters, not media scrutiny?

Don’t you think it is disgraceful that a man of the people like Farage just needs to take a few bribes from foreign donors and swerve electoral law and the mainstream media are all over it. Why do they not let the electorate decide whether he is corrupt or not? The great and informed people of Clacton obviously decided that he was a wonderful MP and represented their interests and made the place thrive like it was before Brexit and they wanted a continuation of becoming great again which is why they voted Nigel back in.

I have no idea what you are on about.
I will simply say that I have scraped better things than Nigel Farage off of the sole of my boot.

hobbledyhoy · 03/09/2026 21:14

Indeed, what wonders he’s done for Clacton, the place is unrecognisable.
No one funded by the tax payer is beyond scrutiny, apart from Farage it seems, until now…
It cheers me no end and it’s nothing less than he deserves.

Littlegreywolfcub · 03/09/2026 21:15

😂have you just watched Channel 4 News?

The shit has hit the fan - he is so screwed!!

That was a proper sting and yep - he deserves it.

11AndCounting · 03/09/2026 21:15

Totally with you, OP.

It's not for Parliament to decide Parliamentary standards, nor is it for the police to decide whether crimes took place, nor for the media to report on matters of public interest.

Those are matters rightly reserved to the people of Clacton!

Littlegreywolfcub · 03/09/2026 21:17

@CorporalJohn I think the OP is being somewhat ironic 😁

Neolara · 03/09/2026 21:17

Op. I think you're taking the piss. But I'm not completely certain...

Yeah mate - they are taking the piss!

Miffsmumandslave · 03/09/2026 21:25

No, it should not be for the voters to decide.
it should be a jury in a court of law.

MotherofPearl · 03/09/2026 21:27

Bet the people of Clacton are regretting not going with Binface. How long until the next Clacton by-election? Surely it can’t be far off after this!

IdaGlossop · 03/09/2026 21:41

You are right, OP. The great and informed people of Clacton are showing extraordinary discernment in thinking they are well represented by a man who has turned up in Westminster fewer than 10 times, holds no regular constituency surgeries and who doesn't have the courtesy to turn up to the count of a by-election called only so he could prove a point. Exemplary public service from Nigel, after a distinguished career in the European Parliament, an institution to whose destruction he has for decades been dedicated.

bert3400 · 03/09/2026 21:43

Just watched the documentary, wow if his head doesn't get kicked to the kerb I will be surprised. Blatant bribery , the whole party are scum

CovenOfCheeses · 04/09/2026 09:20

Does anyone think he should resign again and let the great and discerning intelligentsia of Clacton decide whether he is guilty or not? He should be judged by his peers rather than the courts, the media, the intellectuals, the electoral commission and Westminster Establishment. The good people of Clacton should obviously go to the people’s Houses of Parliament and fight like hell for Nigel.

This is going to go right over the heads of Reform voters. As a rather delightful analogy I saw someone post yesterday said - “as thick as a Boxing Day turd” 😂

Beepen · 04/09/2026 09:25

Why even bother with an election? Reform can just get that nice polling company to do some rigged polling and then the Daily Telegraph can credulously report on it

Backed up by non stop positive coverage from the BBC

Thing is people who blindly vote for them just don't care though. Doesn't matter what he does, they'll explain it away, call "fake news", or just go off on an incoherent rant about "lefties".

ManManManManMan · 04/09/2026 09:54

Are you saying Farage in particular should not have to follow the law, or does that apply to all MPs?

Which laws can he ignore, is he allowed to murder someone and then just call a by-election?

Indeed. The BBC is only there to critique the other parties.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 04/09/2026 09:57

I have no idea how to vote on this thread.
Do I respond about the OP's actual words (YABU) or the OP's intended message (YANBU).

Perhaps I should ask the good people of Clacton? They obviously understand voting far better than I do.

Your sarcasm knows no bounds.

Sadly, you're right.

The Farage supporters will bat this away with claims of "they're all as corrupt as each other".

We've seen it all before with Trump and MAGA. These populist leaders can do whatever they like and get away with it, and they just brush off the evidence against them as fake news.

Their followers either don't give a shit because they want their far right agenda to be enacted no matter what the cost, or else they are sadly stupid enough to be taken in by it.

Mischance · 04/09/2026 10:04

But Farage is a media construct. He has done nothing of any use to anyone.

Smokeywater · 04/09/2026 10:07

I don’t get all this hatred -I think it’s cos the leftie media are scared he’ll get into parliament - point to a half decent politician please who makes the best decisions for the country -none for 20+ years

Nightnova · 04/09/2026 10:08

I think a lot of people who vote reform don't understand or care where the money comes from. Because the boat people.

AliceNotInChains · 04/09/2026 10:09

Seems the only viable party for the right is the conservatives. Hopefully their ratings will start to go up now
