To feel like the only person who doesn't speed

Most people around me, colleagues, friends etc. Even some relatives will do 25-30 in a 20, over 35 in 30s and so on. They just learn where the cameras are, and most days I get tailgated on 20 mph streets, I just let them pass where I can as I can't be bothered with someone right behind me.

I don't go over the limit, don't have cruise control or anything as it's an older car but if i accidentally creep up to 1/2mph over I go right back down. I just think that it only takes someone running out into the road, a child or someone and if you're doing 25 and hit them, there's not going to be an excuse for that.

I agree 20 can feel very slow, but I just think it could take 1 time, and i don't think it's wise to just rely on where cameras are.

I dont speed and love to see other people behind me getting irate whem im abiding by the law.

Either when I'm in the car with them (community-based role) or they tell me.

The roads are full of people driving to fast, you can just see it. On coming traffic whizzing a long, I have to say to myself ‘wow he/she is going fast’. People tailgating, you see them in the distance in your rear view mirror and then 3 seconds later they are virtually pushing you along.

As fellow drivers it doesn’t take much to know that others are driving over the speed limit.

I do wonder if they get a thrill from it or if they are running late.

I would no more than exceed the speed limit than I would burgle someone’s house. They are both against the law. It takes effort to watch the speed and keep it right. I have a Mini Cooper and that’s not exactly a slow car.

I have a powerful car (800bhp) but I never speed in 20, 30 or 40mph zones. I do however almost always break the law on the motorway and often do 70mph on 60mph roads. It's not clever and I don't arrive any quicker.

I get really annoyed when there are speed reductions but NO evidence of road works. Restrictions appeared locally over the weekend and it seems I was the only person adhering to the new limit. I felt really vulnerable doing 40 while everyone else continued to drive at 70.

I don't speed. I also love seeing the bad drivers behind me brewing their heart attacks.

I also don’t . It’s not worth the points . I also drive a lot better slower as I have more control and I can look out for other crap drivers. I like bobbing a long.

on the basis that pretty much every speedo overeads by 3mph these days 70 is actually 67 so if some slowly overtakes you chances are they are actually doing 70

My reasoning is if I kill a child who runs out in the road in a 30 at less than that speed then I can serve my prison time knowing I did everything correctly. I couldn't live with the guilt had I been speeding knowing that child might possibly have lived.

So I’ll be the first to admit that I am happy to break the 20mph speed limit on main roads around London. It’s too slow on many of these roads and up to 30 seems fine. However on narrow residential streets with lots of parked cars and less visibility of hazards, I’m more likely to stick to 20mph even though the limit is 30.

The standard of driving generally is completely abysmal. The sooner we get self-driving cars across the board, the better.

Surely if you’re doing 70 instead of 60, you do arrive quicker @Clarey27?

I really try not to speed but occasionally I do. I often use my cruise control and that helps a lot.

I get really annoyed when I'm going at the speed limit eg 29 mph in 30 zone yet cars honk their horn at me as if I'm somehow in the wrong. I always worry around schools in 20 zones when stupid drivers go swerving out on opposite side of road to overtake me. They shouldn't be doing it and I always wish they'd get caught and get a ticket but they don't seem to.

I never intentionally speed. Like you I might inadvertently creep over but I try not to and will cut back if I do.

I am a stickler for rules, so kept to the speed limits.... even when I had some one up my arse pretty much.

Saying that, there was one time in the distance past that I reached 110pmh on my motorbike on the motorway. I am not proud, and it was over 20 years ago. I think I just wanted to know what it felt like.

I don't stick to 20 when it's late. No kiddies are going to school at one in the morning.

But cats, hedgehogs and drunks all deserve to live long and happy lives!

Our little residential cul de sac on the edge of a village should be very safe for cats, but the neighbours have lost several over the years to late night speeding cars.

I also stick to the speed limit and frequently have angry drivers up my arse. I’d like to see harsher penalties for speeding and dangerous driving as there are many times it doesn’t feel safe.

The amount of time ‘saved’ isn’t anywhere near what people think it is as well - the website ‘should I speed’ illustrates this very well.

I don’t speed either OP. Most people seem to and I’m fed up of people driving close to me to try to make me go faster.

I stick to the speed limit always. I was surprised when we got a new speed camera in our town and something like 19,000 were caught speeding in the first week! The whinging about it on the Facebook groups was relentless, and I wondered why people thought it was ok to break the law and potentially risk lives to get somewhere a couple of minutes early.

I don’t speed but seem to be in the minority. A relative was killed by a speeding driver and it’s devastating. People think it won’t happen to them.
