Lighthearted thread, but do you / did you get jealous of other people’s pregnancy bumps?

My children are now old teenagers, but whenever I see pregnant women I always find myself comparing their bumps to what I was like. I massively regret not taking more photos whilst pregnant, but my bumps were tiny compared to most people (think I had a lot round the sides rather than all at the front). At no point did I notice a foot or arm or anything on my bump. Both DCs were born naturally, one was 6lb and the other 8lb.
This is lighthearted - I know how fortunate I am to have had two healthy pregnancies - but am I abnormal in wishing my bumps had been bigger? Aibu to have wished that?

Yeah it’s a bit weird, especially as you’re are now teens. But each to their own I guess!

RaraRachael · 31/08/2026 22:43

I hated being pregnant and wouldn't allow any photos of my bump.

AbacusCat · 31/08/2026 22:43

Goodness, no. I have never been pregnant and I always feel sorry for women who have to heave around enormous bumps, it must be terrible in hot weather. Of course it's all more than worthwhile for them when the baby arrives but it seems like a necessary thing to endure rather than something to envy.

SewYellowLikeButter · 31/08/2026 22:44

You’re a little unusual to still care about whether you had a big bump or not when your kids are teens. Is this maybe more about worrying they’re growing older and need you less than before?

PurplebudsWhitebuds · 31/08/2026 22:44

What is this obsession these days with pregnancy bumps ? They aren't a fashion accessory for heavens sake

Can't you just be grateful you had two healthy pregnancies? Many many women would give their eye teeth for that experience.

TheOriginalEmu · 31/08/2026 22:44

yeah, i have 5 kids including twins and i still never had a bump that was very noticeable. when i went on maternity leave with my oldest 3 people asked where i as going as they hadn’t noticed! i was 38 weeks pregnant.
That said, i hated pregnancy so im not jealous in wanting to do it again.

BibbityBoppityTwo · 31/08/2026 22:46

I was very much done after I had my two. I was very very happy to be done with the intensity of the baby and toddler years. That continued for many years and then suddenly when perimenopause started I found myself looking longingly at babies. It’s quite a strong nostalgia, I guess, for that time. But it’s babies more than bellies.

she literally said it’s lighthearted and that she is aware she is lucky to have have had successful pregnancies.

Are you always this dramatic?

Anxioustealady · 31/08/2026 22:57

I'm tall so didn't show as much as some women do. I'm grateful for it, those huge bumps look very painful and heavy. I've heard of women not being able to tie their shoes and even a women got stuck in the bath lol. I could do anything right up to the end.

You also hopefully got less stretch marks and the skin recovered better.

Sorry but I don't see anything light hearted about this at all.

Joliloily · 31/08/2026 23:05

Before I got pregnant the first time, I used to admire bumps and looked forward to getting one. When I did get pregnant, I absolutely loved my bump and being pregnant.

I'm not being dramatic.
I just cannot get over that a woman who was lucky enough to have 2 healthy pregnancies and has 2 living children is actually regretting the size of her pregnancy bumps. The world truly has gone mad.

SlugJam · 31/08/2026 23:09

I was slim and had huge bumps with my 3. I could identify the shape of the feet poking out of my skin. It was weirdly fascinating.
I don’t miss being pregnant and never ever want to do it again, but every now and then I feel oddly nostalgic for my bump!

Well that’s probably a you problem.

DustyMaiden · 31/08/2026 23:15

I was enormous. So were my stretch marks.

Mondaytuesdayhappydays · 31/08/2026 23:19

My third pregnancy was twins and I went to 38 weeks
My bump was nuts looking at the 3 pics I have from then now lol - you could literally have laid a tray of food on top of it while I was standing up straight. Bizarrely it was wider at the top where the boys bums were sticking up under my ribs -a bit like an inverted teardrop !
I was quite slim at the time so it did look quite odd

When I look at bumps now I'm so glad our 6 are all grown up and left home !!

You absolutely are. It’s a light hearted thread, you can just go read a different thread.

Well I dont think I will be the only one to find this thread actually upsetting and in poor taste .
There are many many women who struggle to conceive. Or who have difficult pregnancies fraught with problems. Or can't carry a baby to full term. And yet OP is complaining about the size of her baby bump even though she had 2 healthy pregnancies and has 2 living children. Tone deaf.

There is nothing light hearted about the thread.
And you don't have the right to tell me which threads I can look at and which I can't.

its not an instruction, it’s an fyi. But derailing someone else’s thread with your own irrelevant issues is just unnecessary really.

@PurplebudsWhitebuds you do have a tendency to piss on other threads as well!
Give yourself and everyone else a few days off and reflect .

Oooonoooot · 31/08/2026 23:45

My daughter genuinely didn’t have a bump for both pregnancies…she was quite stressed about it! Women’s bodies are so different .

Whatever your issue is… is irrelevant to OPs lighthearted thread, and doesn’t need to be used to insult OP and detail her thread. HTH.
