AIBU to think hotel breakfast in pyjamas is not acceptable?

AIBU yo think that adults should not arrive at the hotel breakfast in their pyjamas?

we’re staying in a city centre hotel. Nice place- nothing fancy, with breakfast included.

thus morning, 2 young women (prob early 20’s) came down to breakfast wearing short pyjamas, barefoot- clearly just out of bed. They were loud, and not overly polite to the staff either- “where are the plates” etc. just brash and abrupt.

Im generally not a fussy person but this sort of thing feels like a lowering of standards to me. I don’t think we saw stuff like this 10-15 years ago.

AIBU to think that this is not acceptable?

Do you think people want to see your PJs, clean or otherwise? I don’t care if they’re clean, it disgustingly vulgar. Do you think you have a right to flaunt your PJs in public? Honestly, who brought you up with such poor manners?

Go on, just complete the image. You shuffle down in flip flops, sliders, or worse ugly crocs....?

It’s just having the most basic of standards to get dressed in the morning. The very lowest of the low standards are you get dressed in public.

That sort of dressing standards gave rise the the word Chavvy to describe it. I don't quite know the origin, but it's apt.

Unfortunately if the hotel doesn't have a dress code then there's not much they can or will do. But no harm in giving the ' feedback' that it's not what you expected to see in a communal dining area.

Why not tell him to go and dress?

What’s so gross about it? The gross part was how they were behaving towards the staff, not the fact they were in their pajamas

Very disrespectful to other guests to let this happen. Staff need more training.

Oh no! I’m wearing crocs everywhere as I’ve just had toe surgery. However, I have only bought them for this purpose and I usually hate them. I’m even judging myself for wearing them everywhere. 😂

I was on a flight to Spain last year and there was a group of girls in pyjamas and rollers in their hair!

She's not. Nothing in that says she thinks there was an insurmountable problem, it just says that she was more interested in eating breakfast when she wanted it then she was in adhering to someone else's idea of what she should do before attending breakfast. Seems pretty clear really!

Personally I get dressed first, but I think you're being heroically optimistic to assume the majority of people at a hotel breakfast have showered or even washed first.

Makes me want to go to breakfast in my pyjamas next time I’m away just to deeply offend the sort of person who’d take the time to blather on about standards and self respect on mumsnet. Literally couldn’t give a flying fuck what others wear to breakfast, or what people would think of me if I was in my PJs. But these reactions make me want to make a habit of it. Perhaps I’ll pop to Tesco’s in my fluffy onesie

But so what? Who cares about your definition of lazy? I wouldn't. If I wanted to have breakfast in my PJs I wouldn't care in the slightest than a random po-faced stranger thinks i'm lazy. If i'm in a hotel, on holiday, then I can be as lazy as I like.

So fucking what?!! It's hotel breakfast. Who gives a shit about looking ambitious whilst eating fried eggs in a hotel? You must lead such small lives!

trigger warning for those distressed seeing rollers in the hair never, repeat never, go to Liverpool and the surrounding areas. In fact never to go to Euston when the Liverpool train pulls in. You will definitely see rollers.

I once pulled into Morrisons petrol station at
8.00am and saw a mum pushing a buggy with one hand and holding a toddler with the other. Hair all set in rollers. I thought R-E-S-P-E-C-T to you! Up and out by 8.00 am completely dressed, hair styled, full face of make up, no PJ’s.

I think people who clutch their pearls (and actually want to vomit) when they see PJs out in the wild must have not much going on in their lives.

I hadn't actually realised anyone expected to discern ambition in other diners at a hotel breakfast until this thread. Only motivation I've ever detected at that time in the morning is to rinse the buffet as hard as possible.

Nobody’s saying the Pyjama Police are going to arrest you. We’re just saying getting dressed isn’t exactly an olympic event.

I was having breakfast in a city centre hotel when a family - 2 parents - 3 kids (maybe 14,12 and a toddler) came down in pyjamas, uncombed hair and the dad and son were barefoot. The staff at the welcome desk showed them in. The restaurant manager went straight over and asked them to return when they were dressed. She said she would have no issue with the toddler in pyjamas, but it wasn’t acceptable for people who are able to dress themselves, not to do so. The family looked a bit taken aback but didn’t argue. I was tempted to hang about to see if they did return but I’d have been late for work….

I was impressed with how direct she was.
