To ask people to think before they post

After a very upsetting night and morning I am home again, having a cup of tea and scrolling facebook. On my local area page someone has posted a video of police activity taking place in the field across from their house. Yes it looks exciting it’s 11.30om and dark, there are 3 police cars, there’s shouting and a taser is heard, lots of crying and a clear shout of “the knife is dropped, he’s down” then silence then ‘where’s the ambulance “

at this point she does have the sense to stop recording, but she’s posted it, I asked for it to be removed and she posted it again 3 times !

the reason I’m upset, the reason I’m sicken that’s it’s there, and I have seen something I really didn’t want to.

that knife welding thug, was my 16year old godson, the person he wanted to hurt was himself, he called the police and told them he had cut himself, they responded. They tapered because he wouldn’t let go of the knife he didn’t want to die alone. Of course the shock made him drop it. But the damage was done.

my darling, so sweet, so loving but so troubled godson didn’t make it,

that recording of his cry will for ever haunt me.

what does she gain from posting it, ok maybe she doesn’t know the why the wherefore, she’s just relishing in the drama.

please people, please think before you post things like this,

I’m so sorry. That’s truly awful. Unfortunately Facebook won’t care.

PurplebudsWhitebuds · Today 20:40

That's awful OP.
I'm really so sorry.

Starlightstargazer · Today 20:44

So sorry for your loss 😞

BabblingBiddy · Today 20:44

Im so sorry OP. Keep reporting it. I've managed to get things taken down before my reporting them.

NinaGeiger · Today 20:44

Wow that's absolutely horrendous. So sorry to read this.

HumberBridge2 · Today 20:45

I'm so sorry, I'm sorry for your loss. Sending love to you and your Godson's family x

I'm so sorry. People can be such thoughtless idiots.

My best friend found out her dad died because his neighbour posted about it on Facebook (including how she'd need to find someone else to put her bins out when she was on holiday) before the authorities could contact his next of kin.

i am so so sorry for your loss ❤️💐

It was an error, I missed that bit. I have edited it

It's dreadful what some people deem fit to post on social media.
They are morally bankrupt.

Sorry for the loss of your godson 😔

mbosnz · Today 20:48

I am so sorry your Godson went through that, and didn't come out the other side, and for you, and all those that loved him, to go through this. I don't know why anybody would post that, and not remove it when asked. That's just plain, horribly, cruel.

XenoBitch · Today 20:50

I am sorry to read this.

I do think there should be a special level of hell for people who film things like this and post it online. They do it to show some big thing was happening, and they were there.

It has happened to me (a public suicide attempt), and also my DF when he died in a public place.

If I see something awful happen, the last thing I would do is film it. People are vile.

MyLimeGuide · Today 20:50

Awful that this is happening but wouldn't it be better for you to be reaching out to your family right now rather than dramatic mumsnet posts about what you have seen on Facebook?

malloryknox123 · Today 20:51

I’m so sorry OP.

unfortunately some people don’t stop to think about the impact of posting something like this, they simply want the attention it brings

RaraRachael · Today 20:55

A young mum collapsed in the street of our town. A woman was filming it all from her upstairs window providing a running commentary then posted it on the local FB page.
The 14yo son of collapsed woman found out when a friend alerted him to it.
Sadly she died.

How the hell can anyone think that's appropriate?

LakieLady · Today 20:57

I'm so sorry, OP, both for your loss and that some people are so crass as to post something so traumatic. Vile behaviour.

I stopped using FB years ago, and I'm glad. It seems to cause more trouble than it's worse.

That is so upsetting. I just do not get it.
I have seen upsetting things happen in public, and the last thing I thought about was getting my phone out and filming it.
I just leave the area.

Seawolves · Today 21:01

I am so sorry, no-one should have to ask twice for a video like that to be down.

RaraRachael · Today 21:02

Yes @XenoBitchthat's what I'd do too. A former boss once told me, "We shouldn't expect that everyone is the same as us"

Have a heart. She is reaching out to a specific community' Doesnt mean she is not in touch with family. And her post is not dramatic at all

Yep. My DF dropped down dead earlier is year.
It was mentioned online in local FB groups before the police went to my mum to tell her what had happened.

AgnesX · Today 21:05

I'm so sorry for you and your family.

weebleswobblebuttheydontfallover · Today 21:06

I’m so sorry OP. Honestly I found it upsetting enough before you explained the exact circumstances and that it involved your godson. I don’t know why people don’t think.

Sezza57325 · Today 21:07

I’m so sorry. It must’ve been awful to see that video. I think I would message the woman directly. She clearly thinks she is doing some sort of public service but is nosey and clueless.

I don’t know what people get from posting things like that. There was a huge house fire earlier this week in my town and someone posted photos on Facebook. There was really not any reason or need
