I thought we agreed BBQs were a bad idea.

DD4 is going through a bit of a deep sleeping wetting the bed phase, we were busy today so I put 2 sets of her sheets on a long eco wash and stuck them on the line when we got back.

Half an hour later the whole garden is white, crazy amounts of smoke from next door and the worst smell of ligher fluid I've ever encountered.

I'm not sure how I'm going to get the waterproof sheets dry and I'm worried the whole street is about to go up in flames!

The Covid marshals are bored.

They need consigning to the history books. Awful things that have no place in society now. It's always people with big inflatables and huge trampolines in their garden, who sit out the front smoking pot who have barbecues. They need banning/taking off sale. Not just the disposable ones, ALL of them.

If you have a cooker/an oven you don't need a pissing barbecue!

😂😂😂
Personally I’m too hot to cook outdoors right now, but I must get shopping for my essentials for the next time the weather is pleasant enough to enjoy a barbecue. I’m pretty sure Amazon will take care of the inflatables and trampoline, but does anyone know how a middle aged woman with no connections would go about scoring some weed? Got to make sure I do it right.

If you have a tap, you never need to buy a drink...

If you have a bed at home you never need to go on holiday....

Etc

Yes, they needed something to occupy them

I heard fireworks last night I couldn’t believe it

Only disposable BBQs are banned. Proper ones are fine

Ladysodor · 17/08/2026 07:30

What is wrong with folk. Barbecues are perfectly safe if used sensibly.

I'm sure everyone who has used any kind of BBQ be it freestanding one or a disposable one would have said they were doing so sensibly until something went wrong. We've had two bin fires here recently from BBQs that have been left to cool down and not been cool enough. Both appearing to do the sensible thing but they still caused fires.

I really don't think waiting until there's been rain and everything is less dry is too much to ask.

We've also had fireworks over the weekend here.

Why is your garden white?

Oh, I feel like I’m missing out! We have a Big Green Egg and use it all the time, but we have no inflatables(!), no trampoline, have never sat in our front garden and I only smoked pot once when I was 19 and it made me feel sick so I never did it again.

We had fireworks in town over the weekend.

Launched from a concrete harbour wall over the sea.

People still went mental. Makes me laugh.

I can see a disposable bbq is more risk as they're closer to the ground but a non disposable is too much of a risk where I am imo. People having a few drinks in charge of a small fire when its not rained for weeks near my home isn't something I would like at all.

Not just closer to the ground but actually on the ground - and usually grass rather than a hard surface (because if you're going to have to sit on the floor to cook, you don't want to sit on gravel). Or some idiots put them on plastic park benches and melt them.

Whereas a proper barbecue is several feet from the ground, and usually placed on a patio or similar.

🏅 the most ridiculous analogy of what sort of people BBQ I have ever read!!

We have fabulous BBQs, whilst owning an oven, grill, air fryer, pressure cooker, foodi, hob, rice cooker and many other things! All get used and the BBQ most on the summer.

No inflatables, trampolines of pot smoking though!

In fact we’ve got a whole outdoor kitchen, with sink (hot and cold running water) fridge (drinks), bbq and lots of work tops and an outdoor shower!

Spend the summer outside, cooking etc … love it!

Don’t worry I won’t be inviting you, I don’t think you’d fit in!
