Please can anyone help with these results as can’t get through to GP and panicking

I had a blood test recently as I generally have low iron. The latest test has come back as follows:

haemoglobin 122
ferritin 18
haemophilia 28.7
b12 570

I don’t understand the haemophilia result in particular and when I have googled it it seems worrying? The Gp has sent a message for me to book in an appointment asap but each time I call I can’t get through. I’ve been feeling really low and emotional recently (last few weeks) and I just feel really stressed about these results. Can anyone help? I will obviously keep trying to speak to GP

My ferritin used to be 2! Iron tablets didn’t work, only went up when I got pregnant. Strange

Never heard of lups corpus, have you had an infection recently, why did you need the blood test. Have you got any other blood results, have you had a cold or flu.

You might need an infusion, some people can’t absorb it via their digestive tract.

All this will be sorted when you speak to surgery tomorrow to ask for a second reading.

OP do you not have the NHS app? If you have it and you've given permissions you'd be able to access these results on your phone.

if I was unable to reach the surgery by phone and was unable to use an App , I would go to the surgery next time it is open and speak to the receptionist. Is the surgery quite near ?

I think it’s most likely to be a typo. I’m sure your gp will get back to you.

If you had haemophilia,I think you'd have known about it long before now. If you're female,it is very rare in women,about 90% of haemophiliacs are male.

is the NHS app available where you live? It has all your blood test results, historical results to compare to and standard reference ranges. It avoids any confusion around misheard results or receptionist errors..

Hello, all your results mean is that your
Haemoglobin (122 g/L): Is slightly low which can indicate mild anaemia.

Ferritin (18 µg/L): Low (typically under 30 µg/L signals depleted iron stores), meaning your body's stored iron is running low.

MCH (labelled as haemophilia) is your Mean Corpuscular Haemoglobin (28.7): Normal (reference range is roughly 27 to 33 pg/cell), meaning your red blood cells have a normal amount of haemoglobin.

Vitamin B12 (570 pmol/L): Completely normal, meaning B12 deficiency is not an issue here.

So you've got low iron, so you'll probably need to take a course of iron tablets. If super low can potentially be injections. Your doctor will advise the best course of action. Nothing to worry about.

I had medical advice to have one, I’m on the NHS waiting list for Iron IV’s which is 12-18 months plus. I’d sought private medical advice and sent my blood results over to them just days before my holiday and the Doctor had agreed to give me the higher dose Venofer or another brand that I can’t remember the name of, had I not of had the holiday booked I would’ve booked in but I was waiting to return off the holiday. I’ve had low iron and low reserves for years which cause awful side effects but GP’s don’t seem to give a shit

Possibly, however in that case you would expect other abnormal elements within a FBC, such as a raised MCV raising the suspicion of a problem like pernicious anaemia

Isn't haemophilia restricted to men, as it's a mutation on the Y gene? Unless you are a man, of course.

Hey OP. Please don't worry.

I went for blood tests late last year and got a message from my GP asking me to book in ASAP with one of two named doctors. Neither had an appointment for 2 or 3 weeks.

I checked my results - like you my ferritin was low, around 15. Started myself on iron tablets and was feeling better by the time I saw the GP who just said ok great you're not anemic so carry on. The text was just an automatic one as my ferritin result was flagged as abnormal.

Can you push for an iron infusion? I started to feel better within a week of being on iron tablets, and my iron is higher if not great, so if yours isn't improving something is wrong. Are you following guidance ie not taking it with caffeine, taking it with orange juice to help with absorption etc?

The baseline of 11 is ridiculous. My DD had a ferritin count of 13 and was told it was within normal range but likely the reason why she was so tired and in a lot of pain from her hypermobility. Dr told us to buy iron supplements and didn’t even prescribe them. This is the second time in about 18 months. She was originally prescribed liquid by another GP first time around but never followed up on. She stopped taking it when it ran out. Then we had this issue with pain. She only tested blood as we wanted a rheumatology referral and said there want bloods checked before they would except any referrals. After the low iron count came back she refused the referral and put it all down to low iron.

When 11 is the lowest and 310 as highest in the range then I feel anything below about 50 should be at least a concern, especially if it’s a regular thing after taking supplements. The Dr wouldn’t even test my other daughter’s blood when I took her in. She had got dizzy after a school show and was still dizzy the next day. Urgent care suggested labrynthitis but dr ruled that out straight away as she wasn’t being sick or complaining of nausea and she was able to look at her phone. She suggested likely BP related and to buy compression socks for when she’s on her feet a lot and then to buy supplements as all kids should be on them. Proceeded to show me an expensive American brand of liquid her 2 year old has daily.

Also OP you can check on your nhs app for the results if you can’t remember exactly what you were told.

Can you recommend a uk supplier for 3 arrows? Or a UK equivalent? I can only see it on US websites.

It tends to be a lot cheaper to run things, when standards are this lax. I wouldn't trust even an iv personally, but others are willing to take a greater risk for the cheap access.

OP please ask for a coeliac blood test. One of the symptoms can be low iron that doesn’t improve with iron tablets. That can be a silent symptom and you might not have any others

OP, can you download/access the NHS app and access your results that way, so you can upload exact results? She may have said haemophilia and meant something else
