AIBU to tell people about tonight's eclipse and meteor shower? *MNHQ tweaking to say it's tomorrow night*

There's an eclipse tonight that's up to 93% in some places plus a meteor shower plus increased solar activity so a chance to see the northern lights in the north of the country yet I haven't heard anyone talking about it, not even the news.

Aibu to spread the word?

Tomorrow. You'll see the eclipse better if your midlands/down south but northern lights up north

BIWI · 11/08/2026 10:05

I'm amazed you haven't seen anything about the eclipse (at least) - it's being widely reported in the press (paper and online).

Errm August... At least she got the month right 😂

It's a shame that there wasn't a reminder to buy the eclipse glasses last week as many people don't seem to have them. We bought two new pairs and our two old pairs from 1999 have already been promised to two people

We ordered ours on Amazon and got next day delivery. Went out last night to check that the field near us will be a reasonable place to see it as it will be quite low in the sky and we were worried it might be behind houses. However, should be ok, at about 7:10pm last night the sun was still clearly visible

DoeIdea · 11/08/2026 10:23

I ordered mine last week thank goodness. Giving a couple of pairs to my neighbors who couldn't buy any in time.

Non total eclipses are a bit rubbish tbh. Even at 99% totality it still doesn't give a very impressive effect.

I've seen a couple of total ones and they were amazing, one of natures greatest spectacles.

Highly recommend putting in the effort to see a total one at some point in your life.

Non total, pretty hard to get excited about it.
