To not stick to the hosepipe ban

Because no other fucker has to?

We’ve been told no more watering our plants or using the hosepipe from midnight tonight. However, since this announcement:

• A local business has confirmed their splash pad will be operational everyday this week from 8am to 8pm. How many millions of litres of water will that use?
• The local water park has also confirmed they will be open. Using more water and wasting more water.
• The local golf course has reassured members that they are able to keep watering the greens, so playing experiences won’t be compromised!
• Local parks will continue to be watered to “provide a green space for everyone”.
• Car washes etc in the local area are still allowed to operate.

I feel like it’s totally ridiculous that all that is allowed to happen, but I can’t use my hosepipe!

You don’t know that. We are in unknown territories with this weather. There are areas of the country that are traditionally drier than others, more houses are being built all the time with no new reservoir capacity.

It's 5-10% and could be more if people stuck to it and made an effort to reduce water consumption in other ways.

5% - 10% isn’t really pointless though. Its not an insignificant volume of water, and 5% -10% less demand at a time when water is already under pressure, and when everyone does their bit it adds up. You can absolutely argue water companies need to tackle leaks too, but that doesn’t make ignoring a hosepipe ban OK. If everyone decided their individual contribution was too small to matter, the whole point of the restriction would be lost.

It's a small step in order to do just enough to avoid more invasive and harder hitting water restrictions which I am sure nobody wants!

I 'get it' quite well.

As long as we don't renationalise water companies, fix the leaky, ageing network and have a real plan in place to build new reservoirs local hose pipe bans will remain a totally pointless gimmick for private water companies to carry on their criminal mismanagement of the whole system while trying to pass the responsibility on for water conservation to the customers.

You can fill the watering can with the hose though and water as you wish.

So, hit them where it hurts and refuse to pay your water bills.

But carrying the can all over my garden and having to go back to the tap every 3 minutes to fill it up is a pain and I get fed up doing it. But I am doing it. Using the hose to fill the can doesn’t save me any time or energy! 🤷🏼‍♀️

So you're suggesting that we should all continue to use water as normal and if our collective usage plus the drought being severe and prolonged enough ends up in next level restrictions, it will force the water companies' / regulator / govt's hands to do something?

Put the hose directly into the watering can and water away non stop.

Its reduced demand by 9% in East Anglia and Anglian Water fixed 7000 leaks in the first half of the year, they're also investing one billion pounds into capital projects over the next four years which far exceeds their operating profits and providing 95 million a year in financial aid to support people struggling with water bills - I'm not sure what more they can be reasonably expected to do whilst keeping water bills affordable.

Its only not like Covid if celebs RF politicians take their share of the sacrifices this time too.
